  • This half-hour documentary illustrates how valuable a resource wetlands are by helping to clean our drinking water, reduce flooding, reduce pests, act as a biodiversity nursery, and slow climate change by absorbing carbon. This documentary was credited with helping to pass a wetlands law in New Paltz when it was screened at Upstate Films, The Greenburgh Center, the Rosendale Theatre, public access TV stations, town hall meetings, and even a Hudson River Barge to kick off Creek Week. The NYS DEC’s Hudson River Estuary Program distributed the DVD around the Hudson Valley. Amazing what you can do with a tiny camcorder! I was videographer and Callie Hershey was executive producer. Save the Wetlands!

I am a real estate developer in Washington State. Our environmental policies and development regulations are the most intensely implemented in the country. This gives me a special insight into the subject of wetland habitat / critical area preservation. I love the natural beauty of my state and I am a champion intelligent Low Impact Development and Green Design Standards. I'm sure your intent wasn't to harm your cause but this film, unfortunately, does more harm than good. It is a mistake to attack and alienate real estate developers. A better approach is to lobby politicians and enact regulatory restrictions. Dr Schlesinger is the only contributor in this video that was able to convey information in an unbiased way which made his commentary the most significant. This docudrama is the kind of thing that creates a barrier between private land developers and the municipalities in which we conduct business. Several of the individuals in the film conveyed their viewpoint in an overtly hostile way. Rachel Logadka's editorialization of the subject matter was by far the most damaging to the statement that you are trying to make. In my opinion she should be edited out to preserve the film's credibility. The way to win the battle that you are waging is through political avenues. At the end of the day you will get what you want if you make it more profitable to go "green" than to continue with the status quo. To the filmmaker; although I disagree with the tone of the film, I did enjoy the cinematography. Your editing was well done and overall production was well executed. I wish you the best in your future endeavors.

The ticks get out of control because small property owners kill possums. Possums eat huge amounts of ticks.

Yeah, the apologist sentiment gets tiresome. It's much more productive and refreshing to have the narrative shift to problem solving and research.
