This video should be shown in NYC public school system to educate next generation about where 1B gallon per day water is coming from to NYC. Kids should be given educational tours to these reservoirs.

Along with the stories of all the other dams, Cannonsville, Pepacton, etc. A lot more communities were stolen for the water.

Interesting to hear about the original bids for the project. The same is practiced today in municipal contracts. The state's engineers do an estimate of costs in order to procure funding. Then it is open to bids by contractors. If the low bidder is far below owner's estimate and the second bidder, many think they are getting a bargain at the expense of the contractor. But the state knows this is never the case. The contractor cuts corners, cheats on wages, and eventually goes bankrupt and then it is a huge mess with a partially completed project and the need to hire another to finish it (through the bonding company of original contractor). Instead, they will usually contact the low bidder and find where they may have made errors and offer for them to walk away, awarding the contract to the #2 bidder. It is smart and not at all underhanded. I can see, however, how a person not familiar with the process would cry foul. I never knew that the practice went this far back. Wonderful post!!

My husband and I walked on the damn yesterday... it was a "10" October fall day! The problem with this area is anyone doing that does not know what was involved in the making of this damn.. there should be more historical references and markers for each town..the cemeteries that were moved.. the amount of people involved.. etc..
This film is necessary and I agree should be shown to everyone in NYC.. maybe put it in their water bills a a pamphlet??

Loved this. Unfortunately the land people claimed they lost to the water system, was not theirs in the first place. Still sad.
