There's a cheaper way to get to Poughkeepsie. If you take the beeline bus to the Jefferson valley mall you can connect to Putnam transit to Patterson (via transfer), get on a train to pawling and then take dutchess transit to Poughkeepsie. I've done it once.
Finding this video now is really weird for me because I’m going to college in Philly and one of my best friends is going to Bard so miles is actually making a trip that I would actually consider and it’s freaking me out
Great video Miles! Can't believe I'm just seeing this now, as I've been a fan of the channel and a student in Poughkeepsie for a while. I actually went from NY to Poughkeepsie for only $10.90 by using some weird Putnam County Trolley that only runs on weekends between Memorial Day to Veterans Day (why) 1) Shuttle to Grand Central, then 4 train to Woodlawn ($2.90) 2) Bee-Line 20 bus from Woodlawn to White Plains Trans Center (free transfer); 8:10-9:05AM 3) Bee-Line 14 bus from WPTC to Peekskill Washington St ($2.75); 9:24-11:04AM 4) Hudson Line from Peekskill to Cold Spring ($3.25); (the darien gap for inter-county bus transit in the hudson valley) 11:11-11:27AM 5) Cold Spring Trolley from Cold Spring to Beacon Station ($2); 12:14-12:45PM 6) Dutchess County Transit B (free for me :D); (but $1.75 otherwise) 1:05-1:57PM is 4 hours of my life worth it to save $9.10? *absolutely*
How did you spend the weekend: Me: Down the shore on Saturday, Watched the Phills game on Sunday and Chilled Miles: Spent the least amount and highness stress level for the cheapest way to Upstate NY and back.
11:30 is so relatable. one time I was taking one of the last trains out of penn station to get back to where I parked in seacaucus and it was about to leave. tried both my cards at the ticket machine? failed. had to put in a 20 and reviled at the horror of 17 dollar coins. they're still floating around in my car like 10 months later. same day the same thing happened to me with quarters. I can confidently park anywhere in the US now though so maybe it was a blessing
The closest I had to this trip was going from West Orange NJ to Poughkeepsie. I took the njt 71 bus to Newark, then the path to WTC and the 4 to GCT, and MNR to Poughkeepsie
take the 57 bus to the flixbus at 6th and market to midtown, take the subway to marble hill, then get the metro north to poug, and Dutchess C is free for me with my bard ID :) something like $25
lol the bus you took in Poughkeepsie i used to take daily during Covid from millbrook to Poughkeepsie and back. Let’s talk about how the Dutchess county transit completely ignores the entire town of Stanford and anything on 82 north of troop k headquarters.
Why take the 2? Staying on the 4 to Grand Central then taking the S is way nicer in my opinion (also slightly faster). All three of the S lines are some of the coolest lines in the system.
OMG I remember that hill in Peekskill. I used to take that bur from WP to Peekskill and then take a Metro North back to Riverdale and it is really steep. Also: the 20 bus from WP to the Bronx is an absolute nightmare, stopping on every corner of the horrible stroad known as Central Ave. I don't miss it!
I've done this before to see my friend lol took a flix bus from Baltimore to nyc and then metro north to Poughkeepsie it was a long ass journey 😭 cost me like 30 dollars i think
Dag bro... I think you get a kick out of going way out the way cause I could have traveled forth and back btw philly and bard with hours less of travel time and probably way cheaper...why did you take the A to 125th??? Man Google did ya wrong...smh
I know this is a bit late but, Being from Poughkeepsie and a decently avid commuter railfan, it feels kinda weird that someone would stop and record/upload a video featuring a station which is the start/end point for many of my journeys. I'm not complaining though. I personally consider anywhere north of the Hudson Highlands to be upstate (Beacon and Newburgh are a good reference). BTW, if you walk up Main Street and then turn right on Market Street you will end up at the transfer hub. Some fun facts: Poughkeepsie was the State Capital before it moved to Albany and after Kingston and where New York ratified the Constitution. Also, Morse code and cough drops were invented here. Along with that, Alex Goot and the Chairman of Disney are from here.
Why did you BACK TRACK from GWB to 125th Street when going Upstate? You could've just took the (1) to 225th Street and caught MetroNorth there at Marble Hill
Poughkeepsie trains don't make Tarrytown in the evening rush. I promise you, I thought it through and it would not have worked. Look at a schedule in the evening rush, it would have taken way longer.
@@MilesinTransit Nice...I saw you had a UPenn hat on in another video. I just saw the Wilmington-DC video. I live in Wilmington so loved it! In Philly & DC all the time so love all the familiar spots but from a different perspective!
@@MilesinTransit probably wont be able to reply to this but heres a good little recommendation. try taking every bus route in NYC or try taking a bus from every bus depot in NYC. every bus route would be unrealistic because certain routes only run on rush hour and only run on certain days.

Yeah, good point! The timing of this trip meant I couldn't take the absolute cheapest route.

Yeah I'm convinced....I'll just cough up the extra $10 to take a normal train route

Ah bless. Rest of the world: ‘Coins for small denominations of currency makes sense’ USA: abject horror. Like the metric system. And health care ❤️
PABT's Greyhound terminal is sad.

honest to god, if the NY subway stations make the MBTA stations look nice, we have PROBLEMS
