    Outstanding! A real pleasure to watch, these guys do it right. The fact that with all the hard rains, there were no leaks, is the best testament to the quality of design and workmanship that the WB's have provided on this project. As an experienced builder, I am aware of the challenges that exist in attaching a wooden structure to a masonry one and maintaining a weathertight connection between the two. It is no small task. Well done guys!

    Years ago the state of Florida built some cedar sided cabins in a state park. Then they stained that beautiful siding gray... looked like S___! Please use a finish like Flood CWF ( clear wood finish), it guards against weathering and graying and enhances the natural beauty of the Cedar. GREAT WORK on a fantastic project. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.

      Thanks for following along! We are using a clear wood finish on all the cedar and ash. The graying of cedar does look good one some builds but we’d like to try to preserve the natural cedar look for this job

    What a beautiful addition and conversion. To maintain the circular structure have you considered adding a spiral staircase to access the upper floors? In an earlier video you left an opening in the floor of the top floor to see the dome and beam structure. A spiral up through the opening would allow access and maintain the view as well.
    Wishing you and your team a great week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather. Peace

    • @Worzalla_Brothers
      @Worzalla_Brothers  6 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks @catgynt9148! We are going to do a spiral staircase in the addition area and then a ladder to go from the middle floor to the top floor. We were thinking of coming up through the opening but didn’t want to lose a lot of space and the view to the top. It’s still an option coming up through the floor opening but we’ll see how the ladder works first. Thanks for following along!

    Looks great. The project is coming along nicely.
    I would have done only two things differently for aesthetics. First, I would have dropped the windows slightly. I would have aligned the top of the window rough openings with the door rough opening. (Usually about 81 1/4", but it depends on the actual door). Set the door first to determine the exact installed top trim elevation. Then set the windows, being careful to match up that established top trim elevation. It looks better when all openings in close proximity share a consistent header height, at least in my opinion for whatever that's worth.
    Second, I love cedar siding and I think it was an appropriate choice. However, I would have chosen a wider product, installed vertically. A wider product makes the siding less 'busy' on a relatively small structure. Running it vertically would have shortened the length of each individual siding piece, and allowed more pieces to be used to establish the pattern. Look at the front facade above the door and below the three windows on the second level and consider how many more rows of siding would fit vertically as opposed to horizontally. It's the same square footage regardless, but the number of repeated elements creating a pattern is much different. Also, it's a tall, narrow structure, and the vertical siding will make it appear taller. And, the barn next to it has vertical siding, so it would be more consistent with the surroundings to have vertical siding. Again,, that's just my opinion.
    I would have definitely used a roughsawn cedar siding.
    I can't wait to see a video of the finished product.

    • @Worzalla_Brothers
      @Worzalla_Brothers  6 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Mike, Yeah looking at it now it would’ve looked better matching the top heights of the windows with the doors but we were trying to maintain a certain height from the floor to the bottom of the windows. That’s a great idea for the siding and something we never really considered. It makes sense running the siding vertically especially for this type of job. Thanks for the input!

    Incredible build; it looks amazing so far.
    But I am always shocked at how flimsy the doors in the US are.
    Ok, maybe I am just spoiled and used to German doors, which could probably be used as safe doors.

      @Worzalla_Brothers  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for following along! Yeah there are quite a few cheap/flimsy products to choose from these days. We went with some that are more on the sturdy side but there’s probably some more durable options out there, especially in different parts of the world

  • @brianhewlitt2989
    @brianhewlitt2989 5 месяцев назад +1

    The project is both creative and interesting - I am wondering if you have a specific reason for framing out exterior window openings and the door to patio with double king studs with a "floating" header, rather than conventional king and jack studs either side supporting headers? Anxious to see it completed - think it's going to be pretty unique!

    • @Worzalla_Brothers
      @Worzalla_Brothers  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! There’s not a major need to use conventional jack/trimmer studs around the doors/windows since there’s not a structural load pushing down on the door/window headers. The large 8x8 beams carry the load of the roof and support the second floor so we mostly just need the studs there for screwing the windows, doors and siding to.

  • @kathleenburns7065

    I agree with the other commenters that said that the cedar siding should have gone vertically instead of horizontally so it would match the barn better. With it horizontal it’s kinda giving modern cabin vibes in my opinion which don’t perfectly sync with the rustic barn and silo. However, I will say it was done very well and does look good! Cedar is a favorite wood of mine, I love how beautiful and enduring this wood is! Cheers guys!

    Is it normal to send nails through the bottom of the row of siding like that? Usually the nails are at the top and covered by the siding above? This would be stronger, going through both pieces, but water might be an issue.

    • @Worzalla_Brothers
      @Worzalla_Brothers  6 месяцев назад +1

      This was actually our first time doing cedar siding so we’re not exactly sure but pounding the nails near the bottom of the siding board to hold two boards in at once seemed like it would hold up better against the strong winds. We weren’t too concerned about hiding the nails but we made sure we hit an inside stud to help keep everything nice and and sturdy

      Thanks! Shouldn’t sink or collapse. It has been standing sturdy for 115 years with no signs of falling over. Not in a tornado heavy area but we’ve been known to get a few. It’s actually located on top of a hill which is why our videos are often so windy sounding so we’re a little worried about lightning striking the roof over a tornado taking it down.

    ฝรั่งเขาคุยกันว่า ถ้ามีปลาร้าสับแถวนี้ขาย ให้ซื้อกินให้ไว เพราะพลังงานจากปลาร้าสับมันเอนกอนันต์มาก จะทำให้งานเสร็จเร็วขึ้นเป็นเท่าตัว

    I’m new to this channel. What are the brothers going to do with this project? Live in it? Airbnb?

    How much $ did that cost.?
    I've got a nice silo on my property. I always wanted to do something similar than your build.
    I'm thinking spiral staircase, 3 levels, rooftop like yours.

    No headers and jack studs around the doors and windows?

      By using 8x8 timbers for the main framing, there was no load being carried above the doors or windows, its all carried by the 8x8 header beam so no window or door headers or jack studs were needed on this design, thanks for watching!

    How did you flash/waterproof between the house wrap and posts/stone walls?

    • @Worzalla_Brothers

      We used both a combination of flashing tape and caulk, thanks for the watching!

      The best (proper) way is to cut an angled groove into the stone/masonry to slide the flashing into and add caulking to seal.
