Thanks for a detailed review. Would really like to hear an in-depth review of the sound since that's been an issue/concern for a lot of people who say they hear white noise. Would like to know if it's a solvable issue. Looking forward to Pt. 2...
Thank you for watching and for your positive feedback as well as for sharing your interest in Audeze Penrose headset sound review. To be honest I have huge backlog of videos I would like to make and for sound concerns I'm waiting for some other great headset to be released which would be worth to buy and compare against the Audeze Penrose. Currently I can compare only against the SteelSeries Arctis Pro wireless, which have cracked ear cup shell, so not ideal comparison.
I got my penrose today for my birthday! I’m wanting to use them for warzone to get that competitive edge over others by hearing footsteps, is there any suggestions from anyone on how to edit the audio to get the most out of this headset for footsteps / 3D sound
@Ed Downey Congratulations and happy birthday! You might want to check the official Audeze Penrose footstep equalizer setting at www.audeze.com/pages/audeze-hq-presets . Although I have set my EQ based on what my ears like I have read on forums that the Audeze footstep setting is actually improvement in Warzone against the flat EQ setting.
@@ottomixa Earned a sub!! So sorry I’m not very computer literate 😭😂 do you know if there is any videos on youtube on how to change the presets to the gaming one rather than base preset? Once I click that link how do I then apply them to the headset?🤔 So sorry for 101 questions! Been most helpful person I have found yet💚 and thank you for the birthday wishes🥳
@Ed Downey first step is to download the "Audeze HQ application" and install it to your Windows PC - link: www.audeze.com/pages/audeze-hq-software . Second step is to download the Footsteps.pnreq file from page in my previous comment. Third step is to connect your Penrose headset via USB-C cable to your PC. Fourth step is to load the preset as per following guidance: audeze.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360054366872-How-to-Load-and-Save-Penrose-EQ-Presets-using-the-HQ-app
Not sure what to get Audeze Mobius or Audeze Penrose for competitive gaming listening to footsteps for best performance any suggestions? Don’t mind having wires
Hi, I have not had a chance to listen to Audeze Mobius, but from what I've seen on other reviews it will be probably similar or little bit better than Penrose in terms of the sound. Hopefully someone with Mobius can comment here.
Thank you for watching. I've been on Audeze Penrose firmware version 0.1.10 and even though there is new version 0.1.12 I don't feel a need to upgrade the firmware. The new version does not improve the distance for disconnects and it contains only minor changes and undefined fix for various bug fixes as per change log from www.audeze.com/pages/audeze-hq-software .What firmware version do you have installed? Or are you just about to get them or deciding between Audeze Penrose vs SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless or some other headset?
@anish bhaumik Sound is different against the Arctis Pro wireless. My first impression to switch from Arctis Pro wireless was that it sounded little bit muffled without clear trebles, however after playing with equalizer to increase high pitch frequencies and after installing DTS Headphone:X drivers with surround sound to get better directional sound, I'm happy with the sound. My personal opinion is that it is different, more bassy than Arctis Pro and with better instrument separation.
@@ottomixa I see, 40mm vs 100mm planars. And 10-40khz vs 10-50khz should suggest penrose to have better treble range out of the box but it's interesting to see you had a different observation.
@@abstractwars from technical specification point of view it should be that way, but to me looks like Audeze has better representation of bass and SteelSeries has better trebles. That is my personal observation and everybody can hear it differently. Which headset do you currently have and are you considering one of those or different one?
@@ottomixa penrose arrived today, I actually feel the highs are very prominent and thr base is lacking. I used a smiley eq, but reduced the frequencies I didn't want rather than increase the ones I wanted. Solid clarity and volume 👍
@@ottomixa i use the warzone preset from the audeze site other than that no eq adjustment needed but i do have atmos on my x and pc i dont use any adjustments on my ps5 i had them since nov. ps5 version but i ordered the xbvox dongle for 47 from audeze i actually pre ordered back when they were 250 best headset out there and i had them all
@@TheTae310 Thank you for sharing your experience. It is interesting to hear that Penrose works perfectly with both PlayStation and XBOX dongles at same time. Also that it seems it might be the best sound headset for PS5. I still have to try the Audeze presets for best footstep from "Mobius Presets for Penrose" pack and also "CoD Warzone" from "Penrose Gaming Pack". Are the house floor's footsteps hearable well with CoD Warzone preset?
@@ottomixa the xbox dongle works with the ps5 u can only pair 1 dongle at a time just switch it to pc and it will work with ps5 and pc and the warzone preset is great i even tested against the pc38x that headset feels extremely cheap but but sounds great and i still choose the penrose
@Laki Luke Audeze Penrose X is stereo headset which supports Dolby Atmos, DTS-X, Windows Sonic and Tempest. However you need to buy the decoders separately for Penrose to be able to virtualize and convert decoded audio to left and right drivers via Digital Signal Processing (DSP). Are you interested in surround sound in games or movies?
@@debimf I have purchased DTS-X as a surround codec and Penrose works well with it, in same way as on SteelSeries Arctic Pro wireless. The footsteps in FPS games can be heard well. Are you playing some FPS games or some other games?
Penrose X were a disappointment. Sound was amazing, but design and quality (made of plastic) were horrible. They have 2 dials on the left ear cup. One for headset volume. And the other for mic volume and if u click the wheel in it gives u maybe a 2 second window to adjust game/chat volume which u have to keep clicking over and over at the end of ur match to balance out the game noise to hear ur friends. By the time u get it dialed in boom ur back in the next match have to adjust again lol It’s irritating man. I found my myself opening up the chat settings for Xbox multiple times a day to figure out what I was doing. And no u cannot change the headset volume settings through the console. Everything has to be done on the headset. I just sent mine back after 2 weeks of use. Sound was amazing. Mic was too long and flimsy but sounds amazing. Everything else about it is poor. Left ear cup sound like it has foil in it and won’t stop making a crumbling noise. The suction of the earcups is pretty tight to the point where my left ear drum was being sucked on and pulled out of my ear. U guys know that feeling? If not put the palm of ur hand over ur ear and press hard then let off. It’s that feeling. The headset is made of plastic. Doesn’t have LED indicator to let u know ur mic is muted. What year are we in again?? Also everything has to be done on the headset which I stated earlier is a FREAKING nightmare. I don’t know what Audeze was thinking when they developed these. Sound is great. Everything else is just poor. I’m mad. Tired of these companies trying to finesse everyone out of a quick buck. Make 1 headset that does it all please. So tired of corporate America. If we could put the great sound quality of the Audeze Penrose into the headset of the LucidSound LS50X headset that would be the perfect headset for everyone, I believe. LS50X were great in every aspect especially CONTROLS except for the sound WHILE gaming. Sound for listening to music and movies however was awesome and freaking epic!! Unfortunately sent both headsets back and going back to my trustee Hyper X headset until we get a proper headset or an updated version from any one of these companies. 😡😡 hope this helps anyone out there with the same frustrations I’ve been having with finding my next headset to game for another 5/10 years. Good luck guys.
Thank you for watching and for very elaborative comment. I fully understand your disappointment. Audeze Penrose X is not a perfect headset, there are many things to improve. The good thing is that Audeze team is really reading all their support tickets and are passing the suggestions to development team. However they cannot share the plans on releasing newer version of gaming headset, most probably to do not lose competitive advantage. Other headsets makers, i.e. SteelSeries seems to be focusing on entry budget headset and their minor improvements, such as changing micro-USB to USB-C, so we can't unfortunately expect there will be one prefect gaming headset with great features and great software and great audio drivers coming out soon. Our expectations on gaming headset seems to be exceeding what companies can offer. Still I appreciate they keep trying to deliver something.
@@ottomixa agreed, Audeze has really expensive headsets. I would gladly pay $500 for the Penrose X to just be made of aluminum, LED mute indicator on boom mic and easier controls as far as chat goes. Those 3 things alone would make it the perfect headset. I’m hoping some of their team members will see our comments and have a good idea on what a huge impact these minor changes will make. Thanks for taking the time to read. Also wanted to help others out who were interested in the headset. I wish the team would be upfront and let us know on there next drop so we don’t waste our money buying this older version.
Thank you for watching. I think it might be achievable only with direct vision distance and in perfect conditions without any other 2.4GHz disturbance. I can only compare it to SteelSeries Arctis Pro where I can walk to the bathroom with headset on my head and still hear my friends talking about me, lol. Which headset do you have now and are you considering buying some new one?
