- Snapping their heads from side to side, marching into the roads in close-fitting blue uniforms and black heels, the "traffic ladies" who marshal vehicles at the intersections of Pyongyang are an emblematic image of the North Korean capital.

There's really no reason to have a traffic police officer stationed at an intersection with traffic lights, but I suspect they're there for the frequent times when the electricity is off.

everytime I watch a video on north korea I'm counting the seconds until one of them mentions "our glorious leader"

In Serbia traffic officers swing their batons, yell at you if you don't stop, sit in their cars and make more traffic jam then not working traffic lights 😂😂

So they're over-the-hill at "the ripe old age of 26." I don't know at what age they start their traffic jobs, but several years of that, or even several months, would wear me out.
Beautiful ladies, I feel sorry that they have to stand all day long in the scorching sun, and have to appreciate the porker kim jong un for that.

This is extremely depressing. Imagine being assigned a job based on your physical appearance regardless of liking the job and if you fail you face internment camps.
Useless jobs , common in Eastern Europe as well until the nineties. In an old DDR series I saw railroad crossing officers.
Regardless of the political situation, I see young beautiful women, very agile and smiling. I know what communism is. I know that not all communist facets are bad. The problem is dictatorship...that is the main issue.

If you have traffic lights.....and they are working , then you don't need traffic police! I don't get it??! I don't understand why they have traffic police in addition to working traffic lights. It's all just complete propaganda to intimidate motorists. That's it basically.
There's no other reason why they would need them. Ok, to have them for a few hours from time to time, or when the lights are not working or being fixed - but all day every day? ...even on a Sunday?? ...No, there's no point. It's overkill and just propaganda.
