Using a word you said, we should change the phrase to, "Frame with your feet".
For me, the best feature of prime lenses is the consistent 'look'. If I use a 35mm and 85mm, I only have to think about two situations for the relative view of the foreground and background. With a zoom lens, I have to rethink with each turn of the zoom ring. It also means the images from an event are more consistent, with only 2-3 looks.

Spot on, not that zoom lenses are only for beginners, but they do make you a bit “lazy” with framing. Lately I’ve been learning to shoot with 24 prime and it takes a bit of getting used to after using 24-70 for so long.

That's not true. Every object has it's uses. If you are covering an event such as a wedding or doing a reportage you need a versatile lens. A 24-70mm is pretty much the perfect tool for that.
However in street or any leasure / artistic type of photography I tend to agree since I live with my 55mm on my camera and I really like it, I pretty much only change it for a 70-180mm for sports and a cheap 24mm if I absolutely need to.
I used to shoot with an old aps-c reflex with a superzoom 18-250mm (eq 27-375mm) and I remember having a hard to time to work a scene, it was overwhelming

Sure all lenses serve their purpose and zoom are best suited for certain shooting scenario. But when it comes to a more laidback approach, street, travel, landscape prime are so good

    I used to shoot street with a 24-70 2.8. Now i prefer shooting with primes 24, 50, 85

Waiting for sony to release a new 85 gm before investing in this focal length but I love the look. Thanks for posting!

They should come with a new one pretty soon! But still the 1.8 can be better for some people. If you care a lot about size and weight it can be a better option. But they will probably manage to make the new GM smaller and lighter than the v1

Working a scene is the fastest way to improve from beginner to intermediate, I think. I find certain things facilitate that more, like shooting from the screen, where you can easily try new angles without getting on the floor of climbing a tree, and wide angles where slight movements make dramatic changes to the look. That being said, I think any focal length that you're not perfectly comfortable with can push you to work a scene too. I am terrible with the 85mm, so I think I am always dancing around a scene more than shooting it, just trying to figure out my spacing and layers. 😂
There are few other focuses that I think help us to make that transition to intermediate, but these are the easiest to implement immediately.

Good point, thanks for commenting. Haha 85mm is not for everyone, it may be also because of your environment, some places just don't work at certain focal lengths

You edit the sony files as if they are made with Fujifilm, maybe do a video about this editing? it's amazing

The main drawback is price. I managed to buy Sony A7III kit, but now i can not afford another lens like 85mm 1.8 because i need about more half of the price of camera to buy one. So all i have is watch videos on youtube and get inspiration)))) 85mm is my favorite lens.

      What ? Sony 85mm F1.8 is 400€ on MPB, it's 1/4 of A7iii's price.
What's the point of buying a camera if you spend all your money and can't buy a lens ? A good glass is way more important. For a thousand euros less you can have a Sony A7ii, a very good full frame camera. If you ever feel the need for an even more "professional" body you can always upgrade later... If you only care about video go get an A7S, same price as A7ii and probably better than the A7iii (in video)

Thanks for commenting :) Yes they can be pricy but there might be good deals for second hand ones. I hope you can get one soon and in the meantime you can also learn a lot with your kit lens

hey Adrien interesting topic indeed and that's what i came to ask you about , i want to invest in a 28mm prime since it's my fave focal length and I've stumbled upon your review of the louwa argus 28mm 1.2f and i could honestly say that I've seen all of your videos but the ones you took on that lens just simply were magical ,you have literally made me click the buy button right after watching your review am just waiting for my s5iix to be delivered to start shooting with it , wanted to see what's your opinions on it and why aren't you shooting with it no more?

Thanks for your comment. The reason is pretty simple haha I received a copy for the review video but I could not keep it. It was not mine but it was a really fun lens to shoot with :)

Hahaha but as long as you have enough light is good. You can really work on your compositions trying to find a place for every element of the frame
