Which mic sounds better to you? Let us know 👇👇
Senheiser definitely much much better but not worth 12x more compare to the rode.
Sennhesier all day, listen with good headphones and you'll hear the difference is huge.
😢😊
@agungsetiawan152 😅
The best thing about the MKH 50 is you buy it once and you probably won't ever need to upgrade it for your entire videography career. Just picked one up a while back and i'm so glad I did
It's true! We literally have 0 need to ever need another mic!
@@RudyVisuals Yep I just wish cameras where the same! 🤣
Bummer! You didn't give my microphone, the NTG-5, any air time. Loved your guitar playing!
Great presentation. Very nice microphones. Best regards and thanks for the review. Have a nice week. 👍
Thanks, you too!
Ha! That would have been an amazing ending! Fun watching you rip the guitar again! I agree, depends on your use. Awesome review and reflection. I hope you guys have an amazing holiday!!!
Thanks dude, all the best for you and the family this festive season, hope you all have a great xmas!
Thank you my dear for this great video. Greetings and sending love from Vietnam! ❤
Thank you, I hope have been well Ms Anh!
It would be interesting to hear how mics in between price points would sound as well but really interesting watch Aaron! Listening with headphones and I can defo hear a difference but only really towards the end when you switch back and forth. Also nice guitar playing!!!
Thank you :)
The guitar recording sounds so good! 👏
Thank you :)
I have the Go II as well as the Micro II, they actually sound surprisingly similar! - but the USB-C on the Go II adds a great level of flexibility. Great review, thank you.
Really good point about the usb c that I forgot to mention!
@@RudyVisuals It can be pretty big as you can get really clean 24bit audio into a smart phone or laptop over usb-c (cleaner than even external interfaces with XLR + phantom power). With 3.5mm, you usually get 16bit in most camera bodies and it's susceptible to electrical interference and the noise floor is quite high.
The other benefit is when you use USB-C to record, you can use the 3.5mm with headphones to monitor your levels at the same time which is awesome :) - and with the Rode app EQ you can get pretty close to the MKH 50 by removing that "harshness".
The mkh50 sounds so rich and crispy somehow. The guitar recording sounds excellent too!
Thank you :)
Great video Aaron. I found the expensive mic was better but if you don't compare them side by side, the cheaper mic still sounds really good.
I'm still using the first video mic pro, still good enough for me. The mkh 50 does sound so good though!
That analogy at the end about the fillet mignon vs a rump steak... such a great way to look at it! Really interesting watch!
What about if you never tried fillet mignon before?
Haha thank you!
If you ever get the chance try...it's SOOOO good!
Really nice review sharing 😀❤
Thank you! :)
I am very much into mics, I have 4 at this stage, from the cheapest to a more expensive one. The sound counts very much! So I always try to improve always. I have lav one, I have Rode and one of which I forgot the name now as I have the flu and my brain it's in standby :) but that one costed a lot! It's a professional one. Loved the review, always quality content here you guys! Love watching you whenever I can!
Thank you so much! Hope you get well and feel better soon!
Is there any kind of post processing done on either mic recording?
None at all, just a bit level adjustment and that's it.
Now I want to hear how the $1200 mic compares to like 300, 600 and 800 and everything in between!
Haha maybe one for the future :)
I record audios with Rode and I like it very much. ❤️🎤Thanks a lot for the valuable insight and great information. Best wishes from USA. Cheers! ❤️
Connie
Glad it was helpful!
At first I really though they sounded the same but towards the end when you start swapping between them randomly you can really hear how much more natural the more expensive mic is and the rode sounds more tinny and almost radio like. Definitely very subtle but I can see why someone would spend extra.
Could the Rode be used for guitar and singing as well?
For like a live performance kind of recording yes, but I wouldn't recommend it for a professional recording.
Man I can't remember that 2nd guitar song you played, could you help me out?
It's John Mayer - slow dancing in a burning room
Sennheiser is way better of course. I never liked Rode mics anyway. Great comparison my friend.
Thanks buddy!
If you consider how expensive high end cinema equipment is, $1200 is not so bad if it's the same one used in Hollywood movies.
Yeah that's a really good point actually, esp when you consider this mic should be a workhorse for a decade or maybe longer.
$1200!? So expensive, but the sennheiser sounds better to me (listening with headphones!).
Do you use a boom pole when shooting outside?
Yep and usually with a Rycote windshield.
Thank you for your response! May I know what cable do you use to connect the microphone to your camera?
For 100, the rode is really good, but I can hear a difference for sure.
for me the mic doesn't matter, it is the quality of your normal voice hehe
The $1200 mic sounds so much better but I don't know if I would be able to justify spending that amount on money when the rode mic sounds pretty good too
It's definitely hard to justify when there are a lot of mics that sounds ALMOST as good for a fraction of the price!
Dang bro I need to look into sennheiser, they sound sick.
DO it!
I've used a shure sm57 for the past like 10 years for nearly everything. My advice is to buy used music production equipment as the sound quality, reliability and price is better than a lot of these cheaper filmmaking mics from Rode. I've had two video micros break on me already :(
Used music audio is defintely a treasure trove, that stuff is designed to last!
MKH50 is great but if I’m a beginner i will go for Rode 😊
Good choice!
The difference is big but most people won't notice because they're listening through laptop or phone speakers.
That's a great point!
Haha I liked the intro. Yes.. the end 😅
Thanks :)
Wow that rode is killer value for money honestly.
100%!
I think the Rode sounds really great for the price.
100%!
I mean the $1200 sounds better, but it seems so overkill for youtube!
mkh50 sounds better for sure but if you told me it cost 12 times more i wouldn't believe it until I saw it!
They both sound good to be honest
Not even close, but most people will be watching on phone or laptop speakers anyway :')
:(
Definitely better but not 12x better that's for sure.
The question is...how much better??
