Beltsville lake in Lehighton, PA. I absolutely love the lake. The stipper fishing is legendary. Also have a ton of different species in it. Raystown Lake is absolutely by far my favorite. The size alone is perfect for practice if you intend to try ocean boating. For a good weekend you can rent a house boat let alone bring your own vessel. Most forgotten lake in PA is Leaser Lake. It's a quiet smooth lake that you can set out and slam fish all day. Great video. I definitely like to get out to 2 lakes you mentioned in the video.

There’s allot of good water here for sure, you should take a look at the pa state park passport book too , 10 bucks gets you a solid list of state park waters to kayak on!
Hey Ryan just found another one of your new vids from a year ago ! Always looking to find someplace new to go fishing. Had an idea see if it would work for your videos when you talk about some of these lakes in the future talk about the horsepower allowed on these lakes. Have heard of some of these lakes but don’t know which boat to take the tracker or the Ranger thanks dude great job
Nice video man, which of these are best for bank fishing? (West central pa) I don’t have a boat or a place to keep one right now so all I can do is bank fish. Primarily bass but only cause I’m somewhat new to fishing and haven’t gotten into fishing for specific species yet
It depends on where you live but I feel like aside from Erie , the eastern side of the state has better trout water. If your set on a lake I’d say like Raystown or Wallenpaupak , but full disclosure I don’t fish for them much anymore and when I do , I go local to me in the streams. Unless you find a really small impoundment that the stock browns in. There’s allot of good resources online too that could open up a door for you to find a hot spot.
The Que was my hometown dam when I lived in Somerset the past 8 years. Always did well from shore in early summer fishing the western bank, just a bit south of the boy scout camp and the campground. Plenty of chunky smallmouth and largemouth on senkos and whopper ploppers. Green Bridge on the southern end has also produced some nice fish for myself and my brothers, as well as the creek channel on the southern end near the small boat launch.
Fishing PA with Ryan Read thank you I would love to fish with you sometime. I don’t own a boat unfortunately so I do a lot of shore fishing and I love traveling to find new spots!
I live near Akron, and your videos just confirm that I need to get a PA fishing license next year! Have you ever fished the bay area of Presque Isle? I want to go there this fall. Also, I'm wondering what the HP limits are on the lakes you've mentioned. So far, I've only fished Pymatuning *(thanks for pronouncing it correctly....lol) Thanks for the great work!
I honestly don’t get up to Presque isle much , I wish I could more often. It depends on the lake , most in western pa are 20hp but you have a few that are unlimited too. Best thing is to check the website for the lake out and you should be able to find it!
23 inches … almost 7lbs … , my brothers 8lber was 24.5 inches , both out of the same impoundment in the spring , I haven’t fished for bass in a long time though man
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead That would be amazing..... Thanks man.... I live in center county, so I fish the Howard spillway, and Raytown spillway quite often,,,however I'm always trying to target walleyes........
Yeah I mean you have the right idea for sure, I see guys crush the walleye at most of the spillways in spring, they just throw a hook and weight rig with a minnow and catch them night and day! Thank you for reaching out too, always fun to talk fishing!
I live near as you called “Lake Glendale”. There are a lot of rock bass by The campground. Especially if you fish at the docks. I was with my friend and I saw 20 rock bass. I’m not even exaggerating the count. I live 15 minutes max from As the locals call it,”Glendale Lake.” The words lake and Glendale can be flip flopped. You can say it either way, I’m not offended. 😉
Great to see someone who knows some lakes and streams in PA. I'm in Northeast PA. In the Lehigh Valley. Ever hear of any lakes there? I'm trying kayak fishing and have some nice small lakes, streams, and ponds nearby. We're near the Delaware River and Lake Nockamixon is probably the biggest lake nearby. Have you heard of others? Wallenpaupack is nice but too far. Don't know how I missed this video five months ago.
Leon Deiter , I do know a few lakes out that way and I’m planning on doing a few episodes soon on lake breakdowns! Thanks for the comment! Let me know if you have something you want to see!
My dad used to take me to quarrys in the Lehigh Valley area, now nobody I know even knows where any are. Mauch Chunk is nice for cats and Wallenpaupak too.
Unfortunately most of the quarries aren't considered safe and have no trespassing signs. Wallenpaupack and Mauch Chunk Lakes are a bit of ride for a day trip. Lots of smaller lakes around the Valley. I just haven't gotten to many of them. Nockamixon is nice and close and I've fished there a bit.
@@leondeiter7703 , just posted the video on Nockamixon. I have Wallenpaupack on deck, but it may take a week or more. I think anywhere there is a good start , I’ll be out there next weekend camping and fishing crooked creek allot , the spillway is good, are you fishing from shore or a boat ?
It’s still open for fishing , I know guys spend time there and catch fish , it definitely doesn’t have the numbers that other lakes have but it still holds good fish!
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead my uncle pulled in a 52 in her at the breast of the dam. Curious. Plan on coming back to retirement. Thanks for info bro. Is there still an algea problem I think I heard about several years back?
I think they cleared most of that up , I could be wrong , I was out there last fall and they’re were guys fishing , the water looked great to me but I haven’t fished it in a long time. I know guys that do , apparently they took some fish from Somerset over there when they drained it, so it has to be sustainable.
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead ya I read about that. Fished there too. Lots of small ones. Dad caught a 48 inch 18 lb. Pike from yellow reek in about 3 feet of water. At night. If u will bro fill me in on yellow creek water level. I know the spots.
Shawnee lake is still solid. Spent some time there this summer bank fishing with my wife and sons. Plenty of shoreline access, and an easy walk of a couple miles on a crushed limestone path around the water. We can usually get into some panfish no matter where we stop, and I've been catching moderately sized bass there since I was old enough to cast a rod.
When I redo this video Raystown will make it on 100% , my perspective has changed along with the lakes and I do not think I gave it a fair shake being that I don’t really target Striped bass. But it deserves to be on a top 10 list.
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead to be honest its such a vast body of water it would take you some time to figure it out. I understand it has alot of Muskies as well as a just a striper lake. Maybe not as much as some but, common sense tells me since its an apex type of fish it should eventually come into a better Muskie fishery over the years?
Craig Nash , Raystown is easily a top ten if not top 3 lake... I just never fish it because of the pleasure boaters. I’m going to put out a breakdown on that soon. Yeah you could argue Raystown hands down because it’s the striper capital of pa in my opinion, I just can’t stand the pleasure boating and partying that goes on there...
Lake Erie is by far King. It's thee number one place in the world for walleyes. 5 pound Smallmouth are routine. 14-15 inch perch. Steelhead Lakers Crappie in Presque isle it's just a haven. Nothing touches it
Thanks Ryan, I enjoyed your video. We're thinking of moving out of crowded Lancaster Co. and move to a lake area so we can go boating and fishing a lot. We'd like to stay within 3 hours from Lancaster to stay close to friends and family. Happy fishing my friend !!
Glendale on the fastest route that goes through State college Is just under 3 hours. If you want somewhere peaceful, Glendale year round. Entrance is right by it.
I fish the Allegany reservoir and there’s a lot of places to fish there but I can go many places bc I’m still young and can’t go some where I’m my parents don’t wanna go
I understand , but your fishing a really good spot so when you get out , just focus there and you will do great. Sometimes staying on a lake helps you learn it really good and then you get experience that no one else has!
I can’t give you my opinion from experience , but I have allot of info from guys that I talk to who does. First , fish and boat told me that it’s one of the best musky lakes in the state of pa. The numbers are high and the lake is thriving for all species. Second a guy I work with has caught two beautiful 40 inch class muskies out of there this year and a number of others. Third my buddy fished up there in the summer and the boat traffic frustrated him until he left. I’d fish it early and late seasons to avoid boat traffic and depending on what your chasing , I feel confident that the lake is healthy and should be considered a top lake in the state. I just haven’t fished it , but when I update this video , it may make my list.
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead Thank you for answering my question. Its been years since I was there. When I was a small boy my family would go there during the week of the fourth of July. You take care and have a great evening.
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead .. since I have you on the line 😉.. I'm originally from Ireland and now live in Lancaster county pa , I have fond memories of Pike fishing there and I'm hoping to do some Pike or Muskie fishing here can you recommend any rivers or lakes within a couple of hours of Lancaster?
Northern pike fishing in pa is tough , although you can find rivers and lakes that will produce fish. Your best bet is to get of fish and boat website and look for the closest body of water near you. Lancaster is tough you may have to drive, you may have a better shot at pike and Musky too in the Delaware River. The Delaware water gap is really really good. Maybe good to look into. Wallenpaupack maybe a longer drive for you but it is big beautiful and offers allot of species! Allot of the pike waters I fish are out western pa, like the Allegheny River and conneautt lake.
If you do a google search for pa pike waters you can get to fish and boat and hit cool and warm waters, it pulls up an interactive map and allows you to filter, pretty sweet

You could definitely argue Raystown for sure , it’s really a top striper fishery in the country. The only reason I do not have it on my list is because of the boat traffic , but yeah easily could be top three...
How about Memorial Lake or Lesser Lake. I'm new to the lakes and not sure how to fish. I usually fish Speedwell Lake, since it is 10 minutes from my house. My wife and I try to find new lakes in pa. to try some fishing. This is a great state for fishing.
Lake Nockamixon is a very good lake in my opinion! Check out my lake breakdown on it and let me know what you think! There are allot of lakes that I just can’t get to because of distance , but you guys out east have allot of lakes that could be top ten for sure!!!

Check out crooked creek lake. It's not known for pike or muskie but it does hold some great bass, walleye and crappie.
I actually fished the spillway a few times last year, I will definitely try to fish the lake this year for bass!
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead awesome man! Maybe we can talk fish if I'm around the area same day u are.
Yeah dude sounds good! Hopefully I can get out there soon!
Mee to! Would be a pleasure to meet you!
Gonna do any guides to fishing the Quemahoning dam in Somerset or the mahoning creek dam
I can try , I’ve got a huge list to work through this winter , just gotta find the time!
Have you fished Quemahoning for pike/walleye and lots of cats in that lake!
I have not , but it’s on my list!
What's your go to PA lake for Crappie?
Up at high point a caught a 30inch pike and a 6 pound bass
Any recommendations for shoreline fishing at Lake Glendale I would like to target pike and Muskie. Great video by the way!
Glendale is tough with the weeds , but find the launches and look for an area with docks , there’s an area down by the dam that’s good to bank yank!
Fishing PA with Ryan Read thank you I would love to fish with you sometime. I don’t own a boat unfortunately so I do a lot of shore fishing and I love traveling to find new spots!
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead Yes it is.
You should try Shenago Dam in Mercer County it is definately a great crappy haven
Ryan what's your pa pb largemouth? Just curious 🙂
Just shy of 7lbs , my brothers PB largemouth is just over 8lbs.
?
23 inches … almost 7lbs … , my brothers 8lber was 24.5 inches , both out of the same impoundment in the spring , I haven’t fished for bass in a long time though man
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead that's awesome. Thanks
Mine is 6lb 6oz
I love lake Glendale I went there caught so many perch and bluegill and bass
There are a lot of FKN bluegills
Small quarry 64 acres Ranger Lake look it up. Its private, but easily some of the best fishing in the state
How do i get permission to fish it
@@joshuasavini672 it’s a private club but look up their web site you will see what I mean! Giant trout and giant largies
@@joshuasavini672 it’s in Egypt pa
Look up ranger lake Egypt Pa. it’s like 75 for the year. That’s the only way.
Very informative..... Thanks man..... Do u know of any good spots for walleye fishing from the bank?
Yeah the causeway at pymatuning in the spring for sure! You can line up on the rocks and crush them off of the bottom 15 feet off of the causeway!
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead always brother...... Thanks for the info..... Well have to get together and crush some eyes sometime!
I am in the process of selling fishing gear as well and moving junk around, i am going to attempt to build some lures this winter as well and am working on my space for that. If you have anything to add on Nockamixon, leave me a comment!

Omw to Glendale right now how do u feel about pickeral pond area and then the spillway?
I think anywhere there is a good start , I’ll be out there next weekend camping and fishing crooked creek allot , the spillway is good, are you fishing from shore or a boat ?
Hopewell lake in French creek state park is also an awsome lake for bass and musky
There's no musky in Hopewell. Those are pickeral . I fish it alot
Gotta try keystone lake and Glendale lake clean lakes great fishing
Good video ill be out exploring this year but how about rose valley or Blanchard there my go too and u got my sub
Sweet deal thank you! I’ll have to check out more lakes out east and central pa! Thanks for the sub man I appreciate it!
hi, i was wondering about lake Ariel and lake harmony?
I do not have much info on either honestly , they are around the Poconos , I’m sure they are pretty lakes!
Moved from PA in 1990. Is Shawnee state park still open for fishing? Used to get monster musky out of there.
Any info would be appreciated.
I’ve fished all of these lakes. It’s great to find a local fisherman!
That’s awesome! That’s why I’m doing it, trying to learn as much as possible and meet local fisherman!
Im surprised you didn't mention Raystown?
When I redo this video Raystown will make it on 100% , my perspective has changed along with the lakes and I do not think I gave it a fair shake being that I don’t really target Striped bass. But it deserves to be on a top 10 list.
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead to be honest its such a vast body of water it would take you some time to figure it out. I understand it has alot of Muskies as well as a just a striper lake. Maybe not as much as some but, common sense tells me since its an apex type of fish it should eventually come into a better Muskie fishery over the years?
I agree with you 100% , it really should be in the top 5!
I’ve got one for you to try next year Ryan call Cross Creek see what you can do there
That would be awesome! My FIL is always telling me stories about a 5 lb bass he caught there (his PB)
any suggestions for south central pa?
The hydro dam at the susquehanna is a hot spot. Right around york haven
Amazing video thank you!!!
Cool, glad you liked it!
Come down to york county man...
Lake Nockamixon is a great bass and tiger musky lake
They also have hybrid striped bass and walleye as well
Why not Raystown ????
Craig Nash , Raystown is easily a top ten if not top 3 lake... I just never fish it because of the pleasure boaters. I’m going to put out a breakdown on that soon. Yeah you could argue Raystown hands down because it’s the striper capital of pa in my opinion, I just can’t stand the pleasure boating and partying that goes on there...
Lake Erie is by far King. It's thee number one place in the world for walleyes. 5 pound Smallmouth are routine. 14-15 inch perch. Steelhead Lakers Crappie in Presque isle it's just a haven. Nothing touches it
Agreed!!! 100%
3:53 huh I live 5 minutes away from there. I've fished there a lot and always thought it was bullcrap
Sorry man , I tried to give some tips too about each lake but sometimes lakes are hard...
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead sorry i fish for bass there not pike
Raystown lake. Pa. Check it out. 22 miles long.
How do you fill about Canadohta Lake located in Crawford County?
Anytime man!
What's your thoughts on lake wallenpaupack
Should say top ten lakes on the WEST SIDE OF PA.
Morris Benfield , yup, I live and breath lakes in western pa.... just my opinion ... nothing more ...
Wallen-PA-Pack
I know raystown lake 👌🏻
Never cared for Race Town but the Walleye Fishing in the river right in Huntington is amazing. Up to 11 lbs. With 4 inch raps.
I live in huntingdon but in raystown they need to stock more but carp fishing in there is amazing
Try Shenango in Mercer co
I’ve fished it! It’s pretty good! I need to spend more time on it. I’ll probably revise this video this or next year!
Thanks for this info.
No problem!
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead Will do thanks for the info .. I have a couple of kid's who are showing some interest in fishing so I'm going to plan a couple of fishing and camping trips this season so I'll do some research and hit the road. I'm also going to subscribe to your channel 👍

Lake raystown ?
Raystown should be in there 100%
No Wallenpaupack? Nockamixon?? Raystown??? This is the 10 best lakes in WESTERN PA. Not all of Pa.....
I need to update this one yes , and I agree with you!

Western PA dont get enough love
Where was this
Check out my home lake. Lake Raystown. It’s the largest lake entirely in PA. Amazing Striped Bass fishing.
What about raystown
You could definitely argue Raystown for sure , it’s really a top striper fishery in the country. The only reason I do not have it on my list is because of the boat traffic , but yeah easily could be top three...
Hey ryan my name is ryan too i like to fish lake nockamixon its good for bass and musky its in the northeast
How about Memorial Lake or Lesser Lake. I'm new to the lakes and not sure how to fish. I usually fish Speedwell Lake, since it is 10 minutes from my house. My wife and I try to find new lakes in pa. to try some fishing. This is a great state for fishing.
I’ve heard great things about Lesser Lake , we do have allot of beautiful lakes that hold fish , way more than ten!
how about lake nockamixon
