I grew up in the evangelical community, and went to evangelical churches until about 10 years ago. The indoctrination in the most conservative of these communities is truly insidious, especially towards young women. I’m sure it’s part of the reason I married at a very young age, and before I completed my education or got my career together. I still go to church (Episcopalian) but I don’t think religion should have such a big influence on public and civic life. I was very hurt when my own child wanted nothing to do with religion, but now I understand 😢 Evangelicals don’t want to follow Jesus, they want power and riches, the antithesis of Jesus’s teachings.
I wish your child well. Let her find her way and think for him/her self. So pleased you've escaped from the evangelical prison.

@@daydays12 Thank you. My child came out as LGBTQ 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ in high school, and saw the church as performative and also took note of how some of the older gay folks in the church were treated. It broke my heart, especially since we were in a fairly progressive church (Disciples of Christ). It still breaks my heart, but everyone has their own journey.
Girl, I can so relate. Grew up in a strict Christian home, got married young, put my education on hold so that he could pursue his, then got pregnant, quit my job because he wanted me to stay home with the kids, then years later he ends up spending all his time on the road with his high-paying job while I’m home raising the kids by myself, then find out he’s cheating on me, get divorced, continue to raise the kids mostly on my own, have to take crappy jobs for little pay because I never got to get my degree and I have to be able to have a schedule where I can get to kids to & from school and cover them when school is out. Meanwhile he’s moving up up up in his career because he has the education and doesn’t have to work around picking up or taking care of the kids, and he gets remarried almost immediately and has another income coming in too. Now the kids are grown and live with him because he’s got tons of money and I’m still trying to find a job and about to lose my house-and my very Christian mom says I need to learn to help myself but also that "god will provide for me." Well he ain’t and he hasn’t and I did everything right according to him. I tried taking my kids to church when they were young, but they didn’t want to have anything to do with it either, and they were the ones who helped me see how damaging it all was. It’s taken me over a decade to undo a lot of it and I’m still working on it and probably will be the rest of my life. I actually see it as child abuse more than anything. Anyway, good luck with everything in your life and wish you the best!

@@annschroeder3472 I think the speech is more about putting things into perspective. Yes, these people have worked very hard over the last 4 years to graduate which is great! However, the point of contention is what will make these women happy, a career or starting a family. It’s a hard truth to tell college graduates that most of them will likely not like their job/career, but it’s just true. Some of these women will love their jobs and make a whole bunch of money doing them, but most unfortunately won’t. So why would they put all of their hope in the idea that putting their career above other priorities will bring them wealth and happiness. It would just be lying to them to do so. I agree that many women would not be happy with getting married and starting a family. The thing is that these women are in their early 20s and that is a big decision to make in saying no to, particularly because they don’t have a lot of time to change their mind. Pregnancy starts to have risks if done in their 30s, that’s only about 10 or so years to gauge if they are happy in their decision, while men can father perfectly health children into their 60s. I think the speech is just a plea for these women to really think about what they want in life, because their decision is pretty much final after they make it.

Here in the deep red state of Idaho 75 percent of girls miss class because of their menstrual period starting during the school day. Fact ! But the government will not allow free sanitary items for free , after all not everyone has money for our little monthly surprise! The government say providing tampons and sanitary pads are to WOKE ! WTF . Let me tell you idaho has one of the biggest tax surpluses around providing toilet paper is as necessary as free tampons should be !

1) That many are SO poor that tampons, napkins or period panties are off the family's essentials shopping list? Seems more lazy than anything if they aren't prepared. Bet most have phones and paid apps.
2) Menstruating isn't across the board of all school age girls. Probably a little less than half even get periods.
3) The trend for high schoolers, of all factions, is to not carry change, rather they throw it on the ground. Our schools have coins all over the ground outside. Cuz it is cool to throw money away. (Logic is not taught). Certainly a few coins for a vending machine is far easier to acquire or keep and less expensive rather than expecting a bureaucracy to run it thru a bloated system.
Do some more digging into the why. People are not more poor and don't have less resources than they did decades ago
