@skeilak It depends on what culture you grow up in. I grew up on Merewether beach, Newcastle .. Australia. If you are a guy and you wear boardshorts to the beach to swim .. you'd be a total dork. Speedos are the way to go. Bible belt land locked Americans can wear whatever they want.

It had a girl in a skimpy bikini showing off her "bikini line" and she'd turn around and show her HOT ass!! The jingle was like, "Bikini Bare! Go for it! Get great skin to show for it! Bikini Bare!
