The million dollar man looks great!!! One of the rare wrestlers who weren't all screwed up on juice and God knows what else!
I was a kid a I was a huge fan of the Million dollar man.
Yeah, a lot of wrestlers who didn’t abuse anabolic steroids have managed to live past 60.
Million Dollar Man turned into Colonel Sanders in his old age.
Thought he was great character. Never had showy muscles but good wrestler @megamouthspike1930
Ted is the nicest guy ever......took a picture with him at an event and when it got developed my brother's eyes were shut and he was so happy to retake it!!
Ted seems like a sweetheart. Ingenious heel in the ring. A great in the business.
Ted has aged so well, doesn't look 70 at all, truly the million dollar man.
Let's see how he ages in prison, hahaha

I'm just so glad all these legends are doing podcasts....such a unique and interesting life or circus of a life and its a pleasure to hear all the behind the scenes, personally peak wrestling for me was 88-92 so huge fan of Teds
Ted DiBiase is one of the most underrated wrestlers of all time. Definitely top 5 heels ever imo. The Million Dollar Man persona was perfect. I think about Floyd Mayweather voicing his admiration for the WWF/WWE and have to think his Money Mayweather persona has at least some Million Dollar Man influence.
Truth on all fronts
For sure. The look, the voice, laugh, talent. Perfect. He did the face down "Flair Flop" better than Flair IMO. Definitely top 5 heal.
@@J0HNJ0RDAN absolutely. Everything about him made you want to hate him. It’s rare to have a heel that’s so relatable to the real world. Everyone hates a rich, cocky asshole lol
That is well said. Mayweather saw what Ted, Flair, HHH, and a few others did as villains to help promote contests. Floyd was willing to embrace the villain role like a heel wrestler to help push his own fights to absurd levels.
If anyone is in doubt how good Dibiase was, he got Virgil, yes, Virgil, super over. Great promos, good in ring work, knew how to work the crowd and could make anyone look fantastic. I personally felt that Bret and maybe Shawn could have used him or someone like him in their first baby face title runs.
Ted resembles Ron Jaworski , a quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles pro football team during the 80’s.
Jaws is my favorite Eagles qb
Via Sickehemas son knocked on my door one time. He was a Mormon and I saw his name tag.
The Million Dollar Man ,the Money belt $$$ and Demolition were 3 of my favorite things from wrestling of that era.
Demolition are so underrated, my fave tag team of the era. Anyone who calls them road warrior clones is clueless.
@kingnotaik3838
yeah they were great! It was sad to see Ax go down so early in that 1990 Survivor Series match though. It was the first match of that card and should have been given alot longer. (Warrior, Tornado, LOD vs Perfect, 3 demolition)
Don't forget the Snake, the Madness, and the Hot Rod 👌🏾
They were terrible clones there is no comparison. Demolition was a joke!
@craiganderson3919 I guess we found the 2 Demolition fans
I wasn’t a fan back then of him back then but now that I watch his work I see how good he really was!
Hawk was the work horse of LOD.
Certainly is strange how the WWF's comprehensive drug testing policy only ever seemed to discover drug use among wrestlers that were leaving or were in trouble for other reasons with the promotion.
yup selective enforcement!!!!!!

After Hawk did his disappearing act over in England, they first would have Animal doing Handicap Matches Vs. The Beverly Brothers and The Natural Disasters, and then later they briefly tried to form The New Legion of Doom with Animal and Crush managed by Paul Ellering, but that only happened on several house shows. It was reported on in WWF Magazine, however. I remember it well.
John nord said him n hawk ended up at a hells angels club house in England doing crack and missed the flight home
Handicap match against the Beverly brothers is how Animal badly injured his lower back.
I still remember the smell from LOD's motorbikes at SS92. I was right by the aisle.
As a kid to see Money Inc and LOD was incredible. Not to mention all the other Legends!
My favourite Hawk story is hearing that he laughed uncontrollably when Vince tried to give Bret Hart a cowboy gimmic, complete with the outfit and a horse.
Animal always came off to me as the guy who would be chill, calm, and a really nice guy. Also a guy who you wouldn't cross his bad side.
Animal and I were on Facebook together and he was nice....he gave me words of wisdom and to this day it stuck with me
Oh yeah?
Read his college and pro scouting reports and see what they said about his dad.
All those guys out of Minnesota who were bouncers were tough guys. Smash and Rick Rude were also legit tough guys

I met dibase and grew up on him just tremendous honor he was a phenomenal ❤
He was great. I was a kid and a huge fan.
Could you imagine a wasted Hawk on the motorcycle during the entrance? Whattttttt a rush!
hahaha
It was always so heartbreaking to hear Animal tell stories about this time. He was not only Hawk's brother more than most blood siblings every could be, he was sort of Hawk's caregiver later on. The Road Warriors were like the Fonz in the sense that they could never really be anything other than a tag team. Animal knew that, and knew that whether they both kept making a living started and ended with Hawk, because the life he was living at any given time determined whether they worked or didn't. And Hawk, like all out of control addicts, became horribly selfish by then, and was very vocal that he didn't need anyone if they weren't on board with how he was living his life. And no matter how hard Animal tried to be Hawk's caregiver, there was no controlling Hawk by then. So Animal had to watch helplessly while Hawk destroyed literally the last 25% of their career, either walking out on his own, or getting the team released. Hawk killing their first WWE run was the worst, because they were red hot when Hawk tanked them in 1992. Just watch that 92 Summerslam match. They were so over, even with that damn puppet. They would have worked on top another few years.
They paired Animal with Crush in the following weeks at house shows. Crush & Animal did an autograph signing after SummerSlam 3 weeks later at a sporting goods store in Indianapolis, as there was a house show that same night where they teamed up. That was on September 19th 1992. I remember attending the autograph session and the show.
Money Inc. ended up with the tag team championships twice because of Hawk's drug use.
hezamachine, surprisingly, LOD became WWF Tag Team Champions more than once, despite Hawk's demons.
That's how over The Legion of Doom was in the 90s, man.

I wonder what the plan was for the tag belts if Hawk stayed with WWF after Summerslam 92
possibly Money Inc pick the Tag belts back off Disasters, and then drop them to L/O/D?! Don't forget, Vince signs the Steiner Brothers in late 92, maybe as a replacement for losing L/O/D - so there's your main babyface tag team champions incoming for the next year (or possibly in Vince's eyes it was meant to be longer...). Tag Team division gets a bit messy at this point and through the mid-90s....

Kinda weird that Ted says they went on second at SummerSlam. There were two dark matches that happened before the show came on and the Money Inc/LOD match happened at the top of the PPV when it came on.
You remember better than Ted and me. I thought it was the 2nd match too until I looked it up.

Go watch that SummerSlam they are talking about! Hawk is clearly riding high in that one.
When I was young and watched this match I didn’t notice anything. However, a month ago I rewatched Summer Slam 1992 and I thought is he drunk or high? This was not a good match for him.
Probably, in my opinion, the worst thing about tag team wrestling. If your partner is legitimately hurt or turns to drinking or drugs it hurts the sober guy.
Ted I saw you wrestle in person 3 times in San Diego
I tell you who got screwed more than Joe … Demolition . Once WWF signed The Road Warriors they offered up Demolition as sacrificial lambs. Demolition wasn’t as over . Thats true . BUT !! They were the better team who had drew houses for Vince and could make other teams while protecting their gimmick . They had paid their dues and were a very productive and loyal duo to WWF . LOD comes in , destroys them and then shoots themselves in the foot , fall apart and now the LOD are gone AND Demolition was rendered null . Barry and Bill got shat on by the LoD and WWF in the end .
vince fed the lod all of his top tag teams and that is how hawk repaid him. then he brings them back 5 years later and makes hawk pay for it with a true life storyline.
Pretty much buried Demolition for the benefit of LOD
@@Nostalgia9478yeah there was no comeback for Demolition then as they looked weak.
@@Nostalgia9478 exactly. They ruined Demolition, a very reliable team that got a huge pop at Wrestlemania 6 when they won the tag titles just months earlier.
LOD were delusional. They ran around the world avoiding the steiners for half a decade lmfao
But with Ax having to work less because of his health issues and Demolition ultimately being just Smash and Crush, would Demolition have continued to thrive even if LOD never jumped over to the WWF?
It really sucked for Animal that he pretty much had to babysit Hawk at times. He left Animal & took the whole gimmick to Japan. I really hate how it went down for them at this time. Animal & Paul Ellering deserved better.
I was watching all American wrestling and Ted di basie and irs wrestled a few times on tv and then one day mean gene announced that they were tag team then announced they were champions and the wrestled the natural disasters at wrestlemania viii
I heard about that before,I think it was animal himself said they supposed be in the main event at SummerSlam. Because of his partner is in bad shape, they went to 2nd match of summer slam. Ted confirm what animal said.
Their summer slam match was match 1. Not 2. They were 2 dark matches before

@@richardmorris6365No I believe the Ted here too. I believe he swindled a bunch of money. I don't know how he's doing these interviews
The drug policy isnt about keeping people healthy its about vince keeping power and control ! only real time drugs come up as an issue is during a contract dispute or when nobody wants you around anymore
Not entirely true actually. Rick Rude left in 1990 over his payoff at Summer Slam. Savage left in 94 cause he wanted to wrestle full time.
Hawk, Sid, Warrior, Davey Boy, and Jake might disagree.
Road Warrior Animal wanted to continue working in the WWF, but Vince McMahon said: “No. You and Hawk are a package deal”. So, Animal had to leave the company and wait for his non-compete time period to end before he could return to WCW. Hawk really screwed over Animal at SummerSlam ‘92.
I always heard that Hawk couldn’t stand the Rocco puppet. But was just an excuse for the drugs
I started smoking crack when they brought Rocco to the ring with them after finding him in the rubble at Halstead st. in the southside of Chicago. I was just 9.
Road warrior documentary animal actually says that hawk wasn’t with it when they rode their bikes to the ring and nearly crashed his, parked too close to animal and animal got his leg burnt on hawks exhaust lol
If you watch it back you can clearly see Animal is carrying the match for Hawk and you even see Hawk falling out of the ring after he missed the top rope closeline.
That was a planned spot though, as IRS clearly rolls out of the way and Hawk has to use his hands to push himself out of the ring for the brawl at ring side with DiBiase, who was instantly there to him with a scoop slam
I just rewatched the match after many many years before I watched this podcast to see if I could spot anything unusual about hawk and quite frankly I couldn't
@@maroof1 Yeah i think it's an overexaggeration, just like Bret likes to claim British Bulldog was so fucked he couldn't work, but when you watch the match, Smith works the same way he always did.
You can compare it to matches were wrestlers indeed were completey lights out because of drugs, good examples are of course Jake Roberts in the 90's, the Jeff Hardy - Sting match or for example, because i just saw it recently, the WWF Show at the Royal Albert Hall in 1991, were Kerry von Erich is so strung out on drugs, you can literally smell the fumes through the screen. And they can't properly work, they screw up even simple things, are slow, react slow and their eyes tell the whole story. I don't see that with Hawk at Summerslam at all.

What's ironic about that Denver title change is that Money Inc. were aided by the Natural Disasters outside interference which enabled them to win the titles.
Amazing that footage of this match has never seen the light of day from the WWF because I know they had cameras running.
Instead of the angle they played on television that they were sold out by Jimmy Hart.
Wow, I never heard about the Natural Disasters getting involved in the match. I only heard about Sensational Sherri interfering.
All the bad things we hate mad them who we love.
I NEVER SAW L.O.D AS HEELS. To me it was always them against everyone else.
Road Warriors were big time heels when they came to the NWA in the 80s, but it seemed like Crockett didn’t know what to do with them. They became babyface, then went back to heel when they destroyed Sting LOL. People cheered for them no matter what and that was a little problem when they were heels because things were still kayfabe.
