To all you people saying "Bret is so full of himself" He's the best in ring performer ever. Without Bret, there is no Austin(his words) there's no attitude era. The list of big wrestlers that have said their best match was against Bret is endless. He made wrestlers, his story about Montreal has never changed and was proved right when people admitted what they did, and for people saying he is bitter, well. His heel turn was simply in America only. Outside of the states, they still treated him as a face. Given his character, he was playing that role perfectly.
He's lost popularity here now since he's cried for the past 20+ years. I guarantee you as I type this comment he's somewhere right now crying about Hogan or Vince or Goldberg or Shawn...He's a bitter old man. Vince made this man millions of dollars and he's lived a life better than most of us could dream of but you never hear any gratitude from him.
@@MAtRiXAgEnTFoXMuLDeRthere’s always THAT guy. Yeah Bret can sometimes come off as bitter…with good reason. The man lived wrestling. He had it ripped away from him. Not just what Goldberg did…but Vince, hogan, etc. plus that’s all he’s ever asked about. People focus more on that shit in interviews, stuff like Owen and Montreal…rather than beating flair for the title, etc. with WWF and WCW, there was so much backstage politics involved that it was probably heartbreaking to have something you’ve loved doing your entire life be turned into a shit show. It’s like the adult version of finding out Santa Claus isn’t real.
Bret's integrity for the sport as a spectacle and a 'contest' is what holds him in the upper echelons of greatness! He knew they could put together an amazing match, a match worthy of being last on the card despite it being an Intercontinental Title match. His ability to see things unfold, his imagination and then his ability to perform it....2nd to none, the guy was all class no matter what you think of him and the Hart family. Tough sport but they knew how to bring it all together. Amazing talent :)
I was at Summerslam '92 and in the section we were in it seemed everyone was chanting for both performers, "Bulldog" *clap* *clap* "Hitman" *clap* *clap* and repeat. And as a good british crowd we appreciated the "good sportmanship" at the end.
My all time favorite match. A true masterpiece. No high spots, no false finishes just a beautifully choreographed match and story being told. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
That was one hell of a match. Bret choreographed that whole match. He was the director, the writer, the choreographer and carried Davey Boy Smith all the way. Davey definitely gave it his all in that match. That's Davey's best highlight in his Wrestling career.

Also, if you watch the match itself, Davey was gassed very early on and was blowing all the way through it. I never understood why Vince would give Bret I think a 10-year deal or something like that but later come back and say that he couldn't honor it. I know WWF at the time was hitting a rough patch but before that happen, I would think Vince was doing really good to offer or give someone a 10-year deal. Would have been great if they could have worked out a smaller deal like 3 or 5-years and Bret stayed because WCW didn't use Bret right. I for one would have never had him align with the NWO unless maybe a swerve , Bret has always been his own man and only group he was in was his family stable. Bret should have stayed his own and a few people or friends join him to battle the NWO, or Bret joined the WCW side with Sting and DDP and such.
Love the insight that you're on course to have a great match if the fans aren't sure who is going to win and that the long-term story is equally as interesting no matter who does; looking beyond protecting your "spot" benefits the whole card. Fans are going to come to see their favourites -- most people don't give up on their team if they lose, instead they watch again and keep rooting for them. When wrestling had more mystique you mainly had the character without as much real life stuff mingling with it (aside from personality informing how gimmicks landed on-screen), but then again the wrestlers weren't protected as well back then (despite Jesse Ventura's best efforts). It's a delicate balance -- you have a group of guys who have a livelihood as well as a legacy to consider. Bret will always be the GOAT in my book -- love for the art form combined with natural talent and work ethic shaped him into the best (for me) and the proof is in the matches.

I really like how he puts over Davey at the end. Saw the match several times and although you see Davey is definitely not in peak form, he does everything he needs to do and holds his end up well enough for the match to still be a classic. It's not like he is Warrior at WM 6... just looking finished before the opening bell. If Davey was clean, and better conditioned, this match would be out of this world.
I am pretty sure that Rick Martel pinned Bret the same way when Strike Force successfully defended their tag team title belts against the Hart Foundation on the Main Event on February 5, 1988. But due to time constraints, the ending of that match was not televised, as the TV program ended about 30 seconds into the match. That was the same show that Andre beat Hogan for the WWF World Title due to the twin referee counting the pinfall on Hogan even though Hogan's shoulder was clearly up.
Mediocre wrestler with no mic skill or charisma only pushed because he was another roider with a bodybuilder physique. And he was gone just a few months later.
I met Davey Boy Smith and his family outside of the Calgary Zoo in 91 or 92 when I was with my classmates on a school trip. He was the nicest dude ever. Sadly he had passed away a couple of years later
Bret was definitely my favourite wrestler as a young kid. While I dislike some of his ego and arrogance in later years he's still the best. To see him give Davey credit here is really cathartic and nice. But I think we have to see Summerslam 92 as Davey's moment. An Englishman walking out at a sold out Wembley, and winning in the main event, is perhaps something that is singular and difficult for non-Brits to comprehend
It was one of those rare instances where the energy and size of the crowd made up for it, but it really wasn't that bad compared to other cards around that time.
Bret has always understood that an artist should always work with another artist in wrestling. I think his problem was that he was unable to accept that wrestling became an entertainment business rather than just artistry. Sometimes you can't make money unless you sacrifice a part of the art. Wrestlers used to be master choreographers, and that has unfortunately changed. Bret is truly one of the last of his kind.
It seems as Bret was about to say that was his 3rd favourite match and then chained his sentence to top 3 matches of all time. I wonder what was his other two matches? Maybe the iron match at Wrestlmania 96 is one of them.
Nepotism Brat. If he wasn't born into an overpopulation clan he would struggle forever mid-card like many his peers. DEF he haven't had a RISE on bis own abilities like Shawn Michael's Boyhood Dream! Butt Fart couldn't even get up with a back-flip, not even going into the real wild stuff like Top Rope Salto pulling back into ring like Shawn not only won Royal Rumble but did many times even on small occasions. Real top notch entertainment in ring and on mic. Bret Hart shouldn't have been hyped like that 1994-1996. His 1992-1993 on the very top was an OK experiment but was more than enough by that stint. Yeah WM Davey Boy and SS against Shawn were def his Highlight Work. By 1993 his gimmick and promos already lame and unevolving. However almost entire Roster sucked 1994-Forever!
@@wolf7el356not even close to your butt buddy Hickenbottom, he was vince boy that could do no wrong, curtain call, the sunny days promo, almost starting a riot, getting himself jumped by a marine after trying yo hit on his girlfriend, faking his back injury for 4 years until the comoetition went out of business, him and his buddy leveque trying to get rid of Dwayne Johnson in the mid 90's, losing his smile so he wouldn't have to drop the belt to Bret because he was a non-drawing, overated pillpopper, oh and telling bret to get the fuck out of "his ring" after the iron man match at wrestlemania 12, his disresoect to the guy that got him in the business, José Lothario. Yes, clearly Bret's the spoiled child... You hickbottom fanboys are so deluded.
Wrestlemania is always in early April! Maybe last day of March. Must have been afterwards. Repo Man was a minor Gimmick. Not to much for Davey to defend his title. 1992 was an awesome year. WWF, Music, Films and overall. The IC Title from Bret to Davey to Shawn. No year after they had an outstanding Roster anymore.
Lmao upper body strength, he was a gassed up juicer, most of his opponents did all the work to make him look good, like Ultimate warrior only slightly better.
I feel sorry for bret sometimes, he should when looking back at his career and be smiling from ear to ear but because of someone he looked at like a father figure chose to betray his trust which i think more than being screwed is what broke his heart(no pun intended) and then when he out of any wrestle thats ever stepped foot thru the ropes shouldve went out the way he wanted had that taken away from him by someone who should've been still training to be safe and professional all in a instant, i can see why he would be bitter and sad about how thing went down
The first match with Owen was the best match I ever saw Bret in. The Bulldog match is a close second. There was just something about the way him and Owen worked together.
@@bobnichols3233Bret vs. Davey was the shits, Bret had to carry him through the entire match because he'd forgotton everything he was supposed to do. Perfect vs. Hart at Summerslam 1991 and Kibg of the Ring 93 are far better than that aeful match at Summerslam o2 which was ome of the worst Summerslam ppv's of the 90's.
Lmao, clearly you've never even watched the match, it was garbage, bret having to carry smith throughout the entire mat h is not a good match. Bret's match with Curt Hennig at Summerslam the year before was far, far better and Hennig was wrestling with a bad back!
To be honest if you are gonna say that about just Bret, you can easily say that about a lot of former wrestlers who are. You can easily say that about a lot of people. Maybe you are full of yourself too. Sometimes the one who does the accusing is the one who is most like that.
People only think about the drug problems Davey had because Bret keeps repeating it. But whether Bret realizes it or not, Davey wasn't dragging because of drugs. He had a very bad back problem and spent the night before at his parent's house bed ridden. Not partying all night with Jim Neidhart like Bret keeps saying. Davey obviously had his demons, but that match and that time it was his back not drugs that was holding him down. There is an interview with his daughter Georgia where she talks about that. Davey was trying to hide the injury because he didn't want to lose his spot and momentum. Link to interview with Georgia Smith: ruclips.net/video/1NtNfGWaoQ8/видео.html
How old would his daughter have been? Maybe you're right, but wouldn't Bret (who was there, as an adult) be the most reliable source? He did say Davey Boy gave 💯.
@@J0HNJ0RDAN Bret has backtracked on that story quite a bit. Bret has since said many different versions. The truth? Bret guessed based on Davey's history of substance abuse because he couldn't get in touch with Davey the day or two before. Jim was out of it so he had no memory and Davey was trying to hide his injury so he didn't lose the biggest spot and payday of his career. Also, many members of the family have since said they saw Davey at his parent's house the days before. Not just Georgia.
The same Georgia who refuses to accept that her father was boning groupies incl Sunny?! So why then did her mother divorce that perfect husband and father of her kids?!?? 🤷♀🤦♀ That entire Hart clan is pure incest!
Now realized Bret can pull off great matches despite losing: SummerSlam 1992, WM 12 (first-ever Iron Man match; 1996). Heck, add Screwjob too (Survivor Series 1997). Hunch telling me some wrestlers would sulk and not performing at best as their subtle protest for losing the title. In retrospect, Bret began his WWF/E career as a borderline jobber. He earned his keep, while turning top Superstars that time much better.
How to down to the savior Bret Hart. Jesus Christ does this guy have to be so egotistical and have to sound like the saving grace, every time? Yeah Davey was not in a good place before the match. Doesn’t mean you have to bring his cocaine addiction up every time when talking about the match. Just say he wasn’t in the right mind so I helped him. Don’t embarrass the family more.

Love Bret and I'm sure he was very over in the UK, but I doubt the fans were THAT torn over who they wanted to win. It had to be Davey Boy.
You know Bret is always going to put himself over.
Bret truly is the GOAT ❤
That match was something special
I really like how he puts over Davey at the end. Saw the match several times and although you see Davey is definitely not in peak form, he does everything he needs to do and holds his end up well enough for the match to still be a classic. It's not like he is Warrior at WM 6... just looking finished before the opening bell.
If Davey was clean, and better conditioned, this match would be out of this world.
Totally agree mate. Hogan carried Warrior at WM6 the whole match
Don't you just love that one guy that thinks he's in the USA constantly going "WOOOOO".
I’ve always missed Davey and Owen the most. We lost two of the greatest before way too soon.😢
the ending was from the Marty jones vs the Bronco playbook
I am pretty sure that Rick Martel pinned Bret the same way when Strike Force successfully defended their tag team title belts against the Hart Foundation on the Main Event on February 5, 1988. But due to time constraints, the ending of that match was not televised, as the TV program ended about 30 seconds into the match. That was the same show that Andre beat Hogan for the WWF World Title due to the twin referee counting the pinfall on Hogan even though Hogan's shoulder was clearly up.
I used to love those referee twins
I was glad to see Bulldog get the respect he deserved as a single performer!
Mediocre wrestler with no mic skill or charisma only pushed because he was another roider with a bodybuilder physique.
And he was gone just a few months later.
Great match, the sunset flip into pin was really good, and unexpected as Bret described
I met Davey Boy Smith and his family outside of the Calgary Zoo in 91 or 92 when I was with my classmates on a school trip. He was the nicest dude ever. Sadly he had passed away a couple of years later
About 6 or 7 years later
A couple?
Try 10 years.
And quit lying, you never met him and his family, you're just another kid trying to get clout on the internet.
@@patience.grasshopperYou can't do math either.
1991 or 1992 - 2002 = 10/11 years.
He died in 2002.
@@ValiantWrestling thank you for correcting me
Bret was definitely my favourite wrestler as a young kid.
As far as I know, Davey Boy was "fooked" during that match. He was drugged out.
👍
One of few good things about that card.
My god was that show booked terribly 😂
It was one of those rare instances where the energy and size of the crowd made up for it, but it really wasn't that bad compared to other cards around that time.
I was hoping Bret would have mentioned Davy saying "I'm fooked" toward the end of the match saying how he was blown up.
What a thoroughly bloody good bloke
Bret has always understood that an artist should always work with another artist in wrestling. I think his problem was that he was unable to accept that wrestling became an entertainment business rather than just artistry. Sometimes you can't make money unless you sacrifice a part of the art. Wrestlers used to be master choreographers, and that has unfortunately changed. Bret is truly one of the last of his kind.
That was a classic match!
Bret was the best at getting basic moves over 💯 He was good at finishes outta nowhere.
✌🏻😎🏴I remember watching that match on TV as a kid. It made me cry.
It seems as Bret was about to say that was his 3rd favourite match and then chained his sentence to top 3 matches of all time. I wonder what was his other two matches? Maybe the iron match at Wrestlmania 96 is one of them.
Davey boy smith, the British Bulldog won whether he wanted to or not
I was there at Wembley to see this, i was 12 years old & remember everything
What was your seat like?
Me too lol 😂 I was there with, Cat Woman and we saw, Aquaman at the water fountain lol 😂😂😂
So far(that I've noticed) you're the, 16th person to claim to have been at this match...😂😂
That was like Bret said top three matches of his career he had classics with Mr perfect and Shawn Micheals too
c'est vraiment un grand match pour l'intercontinal c'est la première fois que c'est un main event pour un ppv.
Bulldog was from my neck of the woods rip
- Bret was always my favorite. It's not until I'm an old man that a realize what a monster ego he had/has.
He was a huge mark for himself & a spoiled Brat.
When your is good as he was, the ego is fine. Its very common with top atheletes. Find me a boxer with no ego.
I think when you’re as good as he was you’re allowed to have an ego.
Spot on with the finish of the bout!
Most definitely
I thought it close at SS 1992 with bulldog gtg revenge on the Repo Man. Since they fueded for 3 months since may 92!
My favourite wrestler Bret!
My favourite match
I was there! 8 years old, the greatest match I’ve ever seen.
That’s the problem today. You always know who’s gonna win
Best there was 🌎 vs the best of Britain 🇬🇧. We all are better for this battle of the best.
I thought he was gonna talk about Davie being cracked out wtf
That finish was perfect for Bulldog as well - his upper body strength made it so credible.
Lmao upper body strength, he was a gassed up juicer, most of his opponents did all the work to make him look good, like Ultimate warrior only slightly better.
@@ValiantWrestlingit’s professional wrestling bro
Who decides who wins and who loses?
It all came down to Vince, he was the boss.
Eho do you think came up with the idea to have Brock end Taker's mania streak...
That was a nice story, ans a great match! RiP Davey Boy
I feel sorry for bret sometimes, he should when looking back at his career and be smiling from ear to ear but because of someone he looked at like a father figure chose to betray his trust which i think more than being screwed is what broke his heart(no pun intended) and then when he out of any wrestle thats ever stepped foot thru the ropes shouldve went out the way he wanted had that taken away from him by someone who should've been still training to be safe and professional all in a instant, i can see why he would be bitter and sad about how thing went down
Bret should've known better than to trust Vince after Vince had already screwed hjs dad out of the mobey he promised him for Stampede Wrestling.
The ending to that match was awesome! If I remember correctly, it was the same ending used for Bret's match with Owen at Wrestlemania X.
Wrestling is hard on families.
''I'm fooked''
Bret's right, amazing match with a perfect finish!
Nah, his finish with Perfect at the previous years summerslam was far better, as was the match itself.
🗣️BRET HART IS THEE BEST WRESTLER EVER . DAVY B👨Y SH🟢ULD ' VE BEEN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPI🪙N AT LEAST ONCE .>🎤
That was a AMAZING MATCH!!!
Despite "I'M FOOKED", it turned out to be one of the greatest matches in the history of professional wrestling. Easy top 5 tier.
Mr Hitman I'm foooooked
Lmao, clearly you've never even watched the match, it was garbage, bret having to carry smith throughout the entire mat h is not a good match.
Bret's match with Curt Hennig at Summerslam the year before was far, far better and Hennig was wrestling with a bad back!
Such a great mind for the sport yet they have HHH as creative just boggles the mind doesnt it??
Bret is so full of himself.
To be honest if you are gonna say that about just Bret, you can easily say that about a lot of former wrestlers who are. You can easily say that about a lot of people. Maybe you are full of yourself too. Sometimes the one who does the accusing is the one who is most like that.
He was the best for a reason.
Good Morning Hit Man Davey Boy Two Off My Favorite Wrestlers Ever❤🎉
That entire Hart clan is pure incest!
'Bret Hart will be interviewed and spend one minute on Owen and fifty nine minutes on Montreal!' - Ric Flair
🐐
Now realized Bret can pull off great matches despite losing:
SummerSlam 1992, WM 12 (first-ever Iron Man match; 1996).
Mr. Hitman! I'm SOOOOOOOO fooked!
goldberg sucks
How to down to the savior Bret Hart. Jesus Christ does this guy have to be so egotistical and have to sound like the saving grace, every time? Yeah Davey was not in a good place before the match. Doesn’t mean you have to bring his cocaine addiction up every time when talking about the match. Just say he wasn’t in the right mind so I helped him. Don’t embarrass the family more.
Bret lies as much as Hogan. Why can't anyone see that?
How do you know? You were there?
