I was an 8 year old wrestling fan at the time, sat in front of the TV anytime it was on and always watched PPV's with about 10 other neighborhood kids at my friends house, his parents would buy every ppv and get us all Pizza and Lemonade. I remember all of us not even being phased by the fact that Zeus from the movie was now in the ring, and we all had watched No Holds Barred by then. They knew their fans, they knew us kids would buy into it and the parents and older kids would play along, because that's what they did. Wrestling isn't the same today, kids know it's fake before they ever watch, not back then, we all played along.
I was also 8 years old/Young when this came out although I couldn’t afford this on PayPerView back then but I Once Rented the No Holds Barred Movie on old school VHS Tapes & watch it as kid & also watched it a number of times on TV !
Zeus strikes me as a test version of the Undertaker in which the WWF wanted to create a character who would no-sell every blow delivered to him. Obviously he didn’t have the lasting impact but he was the first big man to be portrayed as the unstoppable force when he first stepped through the curtain.
Met and talked with Mr. Lister when he would come to the mall I worked at in 89'. A bunch of wrestlers would come afterhours with their wives to shop for jewelry and eat at a Marie Callenders another wrestler owned. A very pleasant soft spoken man. All the wrestlers were mellow and pleasant. And Zeus was AWESOME.
Underrated and underappreciated film but this Crossover was genius booking. It was a great way to promote the film. The WWF/E definitely booked him better than WCW did. WCW Copied the angle with David Arquette to promote Ready To Rumble. The only thing that WCW failed to do was have Arquette as his film character.
I was fn ENRAGED when WWE forgetting to make a tribute to the WWF 's Titan Zeus he wrestling in both the WWF and WCW and star of Friday the player's club he was also in a Episode of Renegade. RIP Zeus
They acknowledged his death on TV and you can find a highlight package of him on their website. I think that’s suitable enough for someone who was awesome in his day but ultimately had a short career.
As I've said on other videos I would have loved to have seen zeus and undertaker when he was the 1990-1991 mortician they would have been a unstoppable force they were both similar where they both didn't feel pain and are resilient towards it, they would have been the real brothers of destruction
Absolutely Awesome Zeus Video. I remember him very well. I grew up in the 80s and Hulk Hogan to me was like Superman. When Zeus came out and Hogan couldn't seem to do much I was terrified of Zeus. Looking back at it now Zeus was a great character and he will always be one of my favorite Actors and Wrestlers.
Imagine a movie where Hulk Hogan the actor plays a character called Rip Thomas who defeats a character called Zeus played by Tommy Lister. Then in WWF we find out the movie character of Zeus actually exists and shows up and wants revenge on Hulk Hogan the actor for playing the character that beat the character Zeus who is now real, in a scripted movie that was in theatres. And people actually asked “hey man you don’t actually believe this stuff do you?” 🤦♂️
I met Zeus when I was 7 years old. He came to my elementary school field day in Covington, GA. Apparently he was friends with my P.E. teacher. Even though he was the same size and build as my P.E. teacher, he seemed to tower over everyone. I remember thinking.. No wonder Hulk Hogan could barely stop this guy!! He's a monster! Myself and about 100 other kids let out a collective.. AWWW MAN! When we were told that Zeus wasn't going to be signing autographs until later tonight at the local High School..
I loved the Zeus character. It's a shame it didn't last long. I always thought that a back and forth championship against Hogan would have made a awesome story line.
I honestly would have put Zeus over as the first black wwf champion after beating hogan at surviver series. Then have the ultimate warrior win the royal rumble set up Zeus vs ultimate warrior. I would have made Zeus unstoppable like Vader until wrestle mania 6
As a wrestler Zeus was bad but as a sports entertainer he was awesome his character was smart his timing was great he could have keep going having shot matches but powerful he could move slow and once he got you bear hug you till you passed out or a slam that knocked you out and his look was spot on. He didn’t even have to be a full time wrestler and not even a final boss and he’s the monster that can’t be beat. One match I would have done it an intercontinental championship match have him almost beat the champion but instead of pinning him walk out as if the champion is not even worth your time. This to would have sell the heal character or loss most of his matches because he wouldn’t listen to the ref and beat up on the ref. You don’t have to be a good technical wrestler, like Brett, Hart or Kurt Henning. But you need good ring awareness, ring, psychology, timing, and how to work the crowd make them hate you or cheer. You just make them believe in your character.
I love Tommy 'Tiny' Lister's movies but the guy was terrible as a wrestler. He made Ryback look like Ric Flair. His idea of what a professional wrestler was seemed to fall somewhere between Boris Karloff's Frankenstein and Godzilla. If personal training by Randy Savage can't make you at least believable in the ring, nothing ever will.
IMAGINE how different zeus presence and character would be looked had he stayed in the business when the undertaker stepped foot in the wwf WOW...wouldn't things been different 💯.....he wouldn't have been such a threat compared to the dead man 😂👀⚰️
Well one thing that they forgot about Zeus he used to wrestle at some point of time before the hulk Hogan first match with him but it was like what like he would wrestle add non televised events when he was good or bad or should we say because he did wrestle it was a handicap match I remember this Marty jannetty and Jim Powers they were considered like a little tag team for every now and then they went up against Zeus and Zeus was just destructible meaning they could not stop him lol but he did face undertaker and beforehand The ultimate warrior that's when undertaker turn good side he was already on the good side lol
the zeus story line got over . if it happened today the beta male neckbeards would be crying that " he took a more deserving wrestlers spot" " his work rate stinks" 🤣
Fun storyline, but way too cartoonish for my taste. I preferred WCCW and NWA to WWF at that time. But, then, I was not the targeted audience. Also have a bit of a problem in seeing this as the "Golden Age of Pro Wrestling". Wrestling, actually, did exist before the 80s .... and in many ways it was much better, imo.
I was a lot younger than and you don👀👀🧠👀🤔stuff as obvious as u are when older it has potential in all but he wasn't in a wrestler that's for sure he wasn't very agile for a big guy and well Hogan aka Mister leg drop wasn't any better gart in the ring so it wasn't going to last long leg 🦵 drops and forearms to the back aren't really exciting.sorry Zeus u were a great 🐂🐂🐂🐂 y in Friday 👍👍
I liked the Zeus character and wished they did more with him. RIP Tom Lister.
Zeus sucked in the ring; they did all they could with him.
I got mind control over Zeus. He be like "shut the f*ck up." I be quiet. But when he leave, I be talking again." - Hulk Hogan probably 😂
Low key funniest part of that classic
R.I.P Macho, Elizabeth and Tommy Lister aka Zues. All great performers.
Craig and Smokey were thrilled when Debo left them alone for a while and started harassing The Hulkster
🤣🤣
He was Zeus before he was debo

Good friend to have lol
Was so so good back then
I was also 8 years old/Young when this came out although I couldn’t afford this on PayPerView back then but I Once Rented the No Holds Barred Movie on old school VHS Tapes & watch it as kid & also watched it a number of times on TV !
I Currently own the No Holds Barred Movie on both DVD & on Blu Ray Discs !
I never forgot him- I thought he was awesome! They should have done more with him- A bigger push! 😊
Vince should’ve let Zeus get the belt from Hogan!💪🏽😏

The good ole days of wrestling
Zeus should have had a longer run in the WWF. When he left the company, there was a massive void.
He couldn’t work whatsoever tho he was complete dog 💩

He mos def was a big dog back in the day that Zeus character was in will always be legendary 💯
Rip tiny
He would wear lifts in his boots to make him look taller then hogan.
Underrated and underappreciated film but this Crossover was genius booking.

Loved his character
WWF dropped the ball when they dropped Zeus!
I was fn ENRAGED when WWE forgetting to make a tribute to the WWF 's Titan Zeus he wrestling in both the WWF and WCW and star of Friday the player's club he was also in a Episode of Renegade. RIP Zeus
Also the Friday movies and others
Also in the dark knight

Funny thing is is hulk hogan played a character called zeus in the little Hercules,
No the same character as hogan is playing greek god zeus

I was at SummerSlam 89 it was a great night of wrestling
I loved the Zeus character. It's a shame it didn't last long. I always thought that a back and forth championship against Hogan would have made a awesome story line.
Damn Deebo!!
Why have a Merry Christmas! When you can have a NO HOLDS BARRED CHRISTMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS !! THE MATCH ! THE MOVIE ! ONLY ON PAY PER VIEWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

He was in The Movie 🎬 Talking Dirty after dark also as (BIGG)1991 Movie Starring Martin Lawrence
Also was in the dark knight
...SAY GOODNIGHT TO THE BAD GUYS!!!...and thank you, Mr. Lister...vaya con Dios...
rip tom tiny liister. i was a big fan of his in the show 1st and ten. great character.
Great video
Thanks!
Thank you boss 🙏🏼
Awesome!
Fun fact: Hogan was actually afraid of Zeus and didn't want to wrestle him
Why would hogan be afraid when Zeus said in a interview it was hogan who brought him in 😅
He was a good dude but couldn’t do much in the ring
I first saw him in one of the coolest films I ever ever watched. Armed and Dangerous. Very funny movie 😂❤
Too young to have seen Zeus, but if his work as Deebo and Winston (Friday & Jackie Brown) is anything to go by he must have been awesome
RIP peace to them all. I remember watching the movie with Hulk hogan and Zues. It was good

He wrecked a lot of matches but was not as bad as El Gigante. At least they did not make him wear a goofy outfit.
That Z on the side of his head was goofy.
This was an exceptionally well composed video
Thank you 🙏🏼
Zeus was a terrible character but the man was a nice fella.
Cool stuff.
Most fans are trying to forget him.
*He wasn't a trained professional wrestler*
No we not Zeus fire
Zeus legit scared me as a kid, his wrestling skill was limited but his intimidation skills were on point.
Should have called him Debo. fed him 40s, and let him steal Granny's chain. THATS MY BIKE PUNK.
Deebo!!
That's not Zeus. That's the President of the World.
The 5th Element.
IMAGINE how different zeus presence and character would be looked had he stayed in the business when the undertaker stepped foot in the wwf
WOW...wouldn't things been different 💯.....he wouldn't have been such a threat compared to the dead man 😂👀⚰️
Put him in the WWE hall of fame
God. This was the worst match I've ever seen! EVER!!!!!!
Full disclosure I'd forgotten that deebo was a wrestler
"Whos that in that picture?"
"Thats Winston"
"Damn, hes a biggun huh"
Well one thing that they forgot about Zeus he used to wrestle at some point of time before the hulk Hogan first match with him but it was like what like he would wrestle add non televised events when he was good or bad or should we say because he did wrestle it was a handicap match I remember this Marty jannetty and Jim Powers they were considered like a little tag team for every now and then they went up against Zeus and Zeus was just destructible meaning they could not stop him lol but he did face undertaker and beforehand The ultimate warrior that's when undertaker turn good side he was already on the good side lol

Does anybody Remember That !?
Who forgot? Like yesterday for me
the zeus story line got over . if it happened today the beta male neckbeards would be crying that " he took a more deserving wrestlers spot" " his work rate stinks" 🤣
rip Zeus
A “master class”? This is the match that forced me to accept that wrestling was a work, lol.
I remember crying as a child when Zesus zapped Hogan neck. I thought he had killed him
How is this guy not in the WWE Hof??
It’s devo from friday
WHO FORGOT!?
🙏🏾
