Basic and show time basketball at its best with the emergence of rookie sensation Jason William out of University of Florida Gainesville. Jason came on the scene out of no where breaking ankles and throwing precision dime passes. Along with him you had Corliss Williamson, Tariq Abdul - Wahad, Vlade "swift post moves" Divac, Chris "work you in the paint" Webber, Scott Pollard, Peja "assassin" Stojakovic, Vernon Maxwell, Micheal Hawkin and Lawrence.
The Utah Jazz was a team that would torture opponents all over the floor. Can you imagine if this same team was playing now in 2024. "No," because it would be brutal due to the fact that Karl "the mail man Malone," with his physical size, post play, rebound, defense and power moves would crucify opponents. Gone are the days when big men ruled the NBA during the half court era. Along side Malone you had John "deceiving" Stockton due to the fact that when you look at him, he does not look like he would rip your soul and take your confidence and spit on it. In the era of defense, John was so effective that he made players and first time rookies cry and you can't forget Jeff Hornacek 3 point shooting and deadly mid range to add to it. Then you have Bill Russell, Greg "Big Country" Ostertag who had many many battles with the big men during his time. Today Greg would be an 10 time all star due the fact that he would body them little boys up.Howard Easley, Todd Fuller, Shannon Anderson and Thurl Bailey gave teams HAVOC. This is a time when the Great Kobe Bryant had reasons to develope a MAMBA mentality because dealing with these type of teams through out your career before the highly sensitive, no defense, over dribbling ,3 point half court shooting, over used euro traveling two step, pampered era , he had to deal with this HIS WAY!!. Do not compare players from different eras.
