      Even hiring illegal immigrants does not get you out of wage and hours laws unless you pay cash under the table and no company is going to do that on large scale because it reaches amounts you could never hide in your accounting. The way the system works screams that illegal workers is not a problem the government wants to solve. You are required to collect I9 data, view the required documents that prove one eligible to work, then put them on the payroll. It takes years for the Government to write back that the SSN is fake, but they give you 10 days to correct the info so the worker goes to MacArthur Park for another fake Social Security card and they are back at work another 2 years under another fake number. If was such a joke that once I was handed a social security card formatted as ###-##-### (missing a number). If the document is not written in crayon it's usually acceptable because they don't expect employers to be forged document experts so they only need to look passable. If Government really wanted to stop illegal workers they would require electronic I9 verification which is instant. Next you use auditors who will review I9 data and make unannounced site visits to match headcount to records and make it law that State and Federal Agencies have the right to ID workers at their place of business solely for the purpose of I9 matching verifications. Employees or employers caught trying to cheat the system are charged with crimes. Put a few business owners in jail and the problem will end almost overnight.

    I migrated legally to this country in the early 1970's. I lived with my grandparents while my parents secured their lives. Three years later I joined them. There was a lot of work and background checks and medical checks and time taken to be legal.
    We never asked for a dime. We children have all been successful and benefited this country. When my late Mother got dementia we all supported her for 20 years paying for her private care.
    I resent paying for migrants who just entered illegally. Many with a sense of entitlement.

    if illegal immigration isn't a thing then Americans will eventually fill those supposedly unwanted jobs. Its common sense as those jobs salary will increase. And like mentioned if still unfilled can give work visa. My dad came to this country on a work visa. The US healthcare system is filled with nurses on visa from the Philippines to include schoolteachers. Having this kind of illegal migrant influx only hurt the low income americans as they will compete for their jobs and rental prices goes up with the high demand.

      I live and work in a ski resort in wv. There aren't enough locals that can 1 work 4 months out of the year and 2 fill all of the positions that need to be filled to run this place. We have lots of restaurants and sleep over 8000 people at a time. Every year we have teams of jamacians, Brazilians, etc .. come here on work visas. We are so thankful because we'd be screwed without them. After winter, they move on to work somewhere else or go home.

      Just to clarify Charlie specifically mentioned "Seasonal" Work Visas (the correct name would be Temporary Worker Visas, probably an H1x or H2x category). These differ from the Permanent Worker Visa that your father presumably had, in that they are not "path to citizenship"- they cannot be converted to a resident visa, and time spent in country on a temp work visa does not count towards time required to become a citizen. The people on them also, as he mentioned, still pay taxes including social security tax, but are unlikely to ever withdraw from that system- so there's that as a plus.
      It's not only pressure on rental prices. It's also upward pressure on costs of home ownership.
      If there's a shortage of rentals, their price increases due to the shortage. This pushes more people to try to own versus rent, which puts pressure on home prices, etc, etc. The people being pushed into home ownership who might've otherwise rented, are the riskiest mortgage holders, also increasing the odds of mass defaults in the event of economic downturn.

    • @nedrane297
      @nedrane297 Месяц назад

      I would argue that its not necessarily a good thing that so many come on work visas for jobs like nursing. Less people in the US are going to nursing school because those people will work for less money so the wages for nurses are lower than they really should be for a skilled worker, if a US citizen in the same position doesn't like it they know their position will be easily filled by someone from the Philippines and they have to just take it. They've taken away a monetary incentive for US citizens to do the job and as they can get people from another country to do it for less the leaders of the industry get more and more of them instead of incentivizing US citizens to go to nursing school.

    • @temujinkhan6326
      @temujinkhan6326 Месяц назад

      @@nedrane297 I am sorry you feel that way, but nurses are paid well. And again, you are saying the same thing I am saying about illegal immigration. Those jobs that uneducated Americans will disappear and go to unskilled illegals that your president want to give amnesty and work permits too. IN regard to nursing Americans don't want to fill it considering America has been importing foreign nurses.
      My father was a heavy equipment operator and because not many locals wanted to the job the local governor went overseas and offered visas willing to work to build the infrastructure of the island.
      This is what should be done with jobs that cant be filled, it should be thru work visas. Also, our government at all levels should stop reduce welfare. This is one reason why some Americans choose not to work when they can receive more in welfare than actually make working.

He moved from field worker to owning 2 restaurants by the time he passed. He also gave great guidance to his 8 children all became successful in their own rights.

    @0:57 I knew someone who did taxes for a person with a "rotating SSN." Basically, they come in, work, send the US Dollars back home to Mexico, after 5 years (on average) they leave back for Mexico, and live like kings on the money and tax return US Dollars. Estimation after 5 years these people were clearing around 6 figures (100-120k).and given the exchange they would be clearing 1.25M Mexican peso to 2.6M Mexican peso. They'd return to Mexico, give the ssn to someone else for the process to start again.

    the issue of things like farm or factory labor is an issue of wages... americans dont do those jobs because those industries dont pay enough to support a middle class american lifestyle. If you remove the illegal immigrant population, those industries have no choice but to either innovate or raise wages and benefits. You then have more incentive for american labor and more entry level positions for american workers.

    I don't agree with CK about seasonal worker visas. The reason that people are hiring illegals to work on farms and construction is because they know that they can pay them less than minimum wage, increase their profits, and lower their burden of paying insurance and such for their workers. It will cost more for groceries if the people harvesting them are getting a fair wage but that is fair and will lead to innovation. If the folks who are underpaying their workers now were required to pay them a fair wage and follow the laws then America would have to adjust but that is an adjustment that we need to make. Right now the only entry level jobs that don't require education or experience we have are in fast food but if these farm jobs became the new entry level job then A) everyone would be more aware of where their food came from and the work it requires. B) People getting the fast food jobs would suddenly have new found respect for their job because they will be able to say "at least I have a steady job indoors in this restaurant rather than working in the hot sun."

    • @cogline9
      @cogline9 Месяц назад

      Exactly! Also I think far too many expect certain produce to cost the same all year round when you should expect to pay more for something that is out of season locally. You're paying more for greenhouse strawberries in the winter than the ones from the local farmer in the summer. If you like your strawberries, it's worth the price. But you'll also look forward to getting more next summer and freezing them this year! XD
