Ofcourse this is in the 50s and 60s primarily. Maybe moving would improve it but it was still happening during that time everywhere in the U.S. luckily laws came into play soon after
Ironically certain institutions (such as schools) are now pushing for racial segregation, including in public spaces and for graduations. Sounds like a self-fulfilling prophecy... they still want segregation, just as long as they get to enforce it. And boy do I hear ya about self-sabotage... I just can't get my sh!t together no matter how many opportunities I have. I think I have certain setbacks that make it particularly difficult for me to succeed at certain things but ultimately my laziness and apathy does the most damage.

In 1984 i was 24 yrs old and lived in Columbus, Oh. I am a US army vet. I took the test to become a firefighter and scored very high. I received ,what i now call a "congratulations, however" letter in the mail. I placed 4th and they were looking for 6 new hires. HOWEVER due to hiring quotas they needed more blacks and women. I wasn't hired. That is racism.

Same here, bit in the projects in Yonkers. I grew up in the same place as DMX, two buildings down , went to school with Mary J, and I had more issues then I can remember die to my skin being white, I grew up angry and violent , after years of being beat on and robbed, and only when I was my worst case of who I could be was I accepted, it took me decades to learn to be better , make sure my kids are better, and i can't imagine if a white neighborhood treated black people that way.

I grew up in the 70's in New York & in Southern California, during the 80's. Grew up in neighborhoods that was a blend of Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Asians, Latinos, Middle-Easterners, and Europeans. We had neighbors who were Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists. We'd get together abd shoot hoops on the street corners, play stickball in the middle of a road, rode the very same busses to school, and hung out together on the weekends, listening to music on boomboxes, crackin jokes, and just chillin. If we ever did something bad, rest assured, that our parents, would have had a coming to Jesus moment, with us then. We had strong Dads and Moms back then. You didn't diss your own parents or anybody else's parents. Plus we looked out for each other. Nowadays, I don't know what's wrong with the youngsters these days. So much hate for each other. So much animosity towards one another. No respect for others, nor for themselves. Everyone trying to out victim the next person or group. It's sad and unhealthy. I was working in Jamaica in an all black institution. One night we were sitting outside drinking a few beers and the discussion turned to “African Americans” vs Caribbean blacks (I’m Caucasian). My Jamaican friends were laughing about how blacks were treated by African Americans, they were always the butt of jokes about how Jamaicans did not know how to have fun, as the first thing they did in America was get three jobs, buy a new house, and a new car. My friend Jo told me he loved it in America as he never had any issues there. I looked at him in surprise and said, “Jo I know you must run into racist people when you are in the US.” Jo’s response floored me, “There are a$$holes everywhere. You just deal with it.” Very refreshing discussion. Jo is now a US citizen, married, with two kids, a nice car, a new house, etc. Still a good friend.

In 1984 i was 24 yrs old and lived in Columbus, Oh. I am a US army vet. I took the test to become a firefighter and scored very high. I received ,what i now call a "congratulations, however" letter in the mail. I placed 4th and they were looking for 6 new hires. HOWEVER due to hiring quotas they needed more blacks and women. I wasn't hired. That is racism.
If we are hiring to meet a quota not because of talent...WE ARE FUCKED. My husband (Caucasian) has been passed up many opportunities because he's not a minority (I'm Latina, btw). He keeps telling me I have a better chance moving up in a company than he, and he's been with the same employer for 20 years. Been promoted 2x.....in 20 YEARS.

I grew up in the 70's in New York & in Southern California, during the 80's. Grew up in neighborhoods that was a blend of Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Asians, Latinos, Middle-Easterners, and Europeans. We had neighbors who were Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists. We'd get together abd shoot hoops on the street corners, play stickball in the middle of a road, rode the very same busses to school, and hung out together on the weekends, listening to music on boomboxes, crackin jokes, and just chillin. If we ever did something bad, rest assured, that our parents, would have had a coming to Jesus moment, with us then. We had strong Dads and Moms back then. You didn't diss your own parents or anybody else's parents. Plus we looked out for each other. Nowadays, I don't know what's wrong with the youngsters these days. So much hate for each other. So much animosity towards one another. No respect for others, nor for themselves. Everyone trying to out victim the next person or group. It's sad and unhealthy. Everyone trying to be a victim of some kind of oppression. People trying to lie to others about their sexual proclivities, and then expect the entire world to just go along with their delusions, even to the point of demanding, we just bow down to their non-sense. I was working in Jamaica in an all black institution. One night we were sitting outside drinking a few beers and the discussion turned to “African Americans” vs Caribbean blacks (I’m Caucasian). My Jamaican friends were laughing about how blacks were treated by African Americans, they were always the butt of jokes about how Jamaicans did not know how to have fun, as the first thing they did in America was get three jobs, buy a new house, and a new car. My friend Jo told me he loved it in America as he never had any issues there. I looked at him in surprise and said, “Jo I know you must run into racist people when you are in the US.” Jo’s response floored me, “There are a$$holes everywhere. You just deal with it.” Very refreshing discussion. Jo is now a US citizen, married, with two kids, a nice car, a new house, etc. Still a good friend.

All that young man wanted to do was sound off on his own opinions and point his anger at Charlie Kirk publicly. Its become common for people to walk up to conservative speakers and just start cussing them out, calling them names, and refusing to have a conversation or allow others to have a conversation. They usually start demanding the speaker leave campus immediately.
