Great video, Greg. My mother bought a red ear hatchling for me for a quarter at the pet store when I was five, and I raised it for 25 years. Before I moved and had to give up my turtles, I had a lot of trouble with Roxy because she would torment my cooter Bruno who was very mellow and sweet. You definitely have to feed them separately and when they act up, house them separately.

here in Brazil we have the Trachemys dorbigni, native to the Southern portion of the country (wich now i think is called Trachemys dorbigni brasiliensis, due to their range going further to Uruguay and Argentina), and the red eared slider is considered an invasive specie here.
great video, Greg. you could do these videos with other species of yours. i really liked it

Agree 100% about how beautiful the markings are on RES. My male has a mark on the side of his neck that looks like the number 6. We call it his racing number :)

Love it! Awesome job Greg....! Can't wait till the next video. I have 2 juvenile red ears and they are sooo funny. They are in a 55 gallon, right now, but I am currently working on building a pond for them in my back yard. Love my turtles ❤️😍. Planning on getting some more, I will look for rehoming instead of purchasing. Thanks for the advice.

I love sliders. My goal is to have a sanctuary for turtles. I to love the colors that red ears have. They are beautiful. I feel bad for red eared sliders. They are close to gold fish treatment in the pet store. Not mention ppl will scoop up gold fish and will feed them to the baby sliders. Thank god they do not go after the gold fish. It's the worst fish to feed them. I have a baby painted. He is a Midland. He has put on so much size with me. I worry that I feed him to much and he is growing to fast. My turtle is wild one that got a second chance at life. I wanted to release him, its not permitted in my state. After 30 days they no longer can be released. So he will live his days with me. We both will probs died at the same time, lol. He is only about 2months of age and he is almost 3inch shell. I have not weighed him in a minute. I love the fact that he comes to me when I call him. When I take him out side he sticks mad close to me. Some times he sits on my shoes cuz its black and it heats up quick. He lives in a 30 gallon tank. So I take him out every day to run around. Not sure what I'll do in the winter months. I feel like I should set him up for winter and let him winter naturally.

Thank for the advice. Just got one from a kid on FB Marketplace. I was just searching for a fishbowl and found it, already scheduled an appointment with the vet but it seems healthy. I will definitely will give it a better life. Already got it in a big DIY pond with UVB and it's been eating well.

Dude, when i get really old, i will send you my 2 Big female RES. My Male albino is 3 only, I'll send you him too. The 26 y/o female AST if you want also. So worried where they will go when i go. LOL! Funny, but true. My 12 y/o male Red Foot is a toe biter and he just follows me wherever i walk lol! Love your channel, Relatively new subscriber(1 month back). Amazing content. Turtles have fascinated me since childhood like you said yourself. Always would try to bring home a Painted Turtle when my dad would take my brother and i fishing as kids. Lifetime obsession. Mata Mata and Loggerhead Musks are next to get. Had florida and chinese softshells , cooters, maps, and reeve's in the past. Glad to see you still skate, Powell & Peralta and Santa Cruz bonite boards were what we used in the mid 80s. Still have my 87 GT PFTTM in mint shape hanging in garage Lol! ttyl!

Bro I'm loving this channel and the info you throw out there. Could you do a video on painted turtles and what other turtle or turtles that you can keep with them? Maybe how to let you painted winter naturally? I live in the far northeast Kingdom. My turtle is wild and I do not treat as pet. Meaning I do pet him, or handle him much. I feed him natural foods he would be eating. He hunts on his own. All the info that I can get on a midland painted and a good way to keep them in a aquarium setup. I am not able to keep him in a pond out side. Thank you ❤

I got my red ear when she was a tiny hatchling from a little pond near my house. Red ears are an invasive species in Florida so I didn't feel bad taking it cause really they are supposed to be killed. She lives outside in a 100 gallon pond with 2 painted turtles I bought. She eats a ton of aquatic plants I have to restock a lot.

Back in the early 90's i found a Male Red Ear Slider all the way up here whiles fishing a local creek. I was dumbfounded, since i live in Toronto, Canada. I took him to the local reptile store. He was quite big with the algae growth on his Carapace. The creek was minutes from my parents house. Super hardy turtles.

I got a female in a 100 Rubbermaid stock with a fx6,she was a "rescue" from a pet store, she's a awesome pet!,and I love her to pieces, she's happy I monitor her she'll growth and shead, she's really vibrant, along with her sheads they come off in full sections and her diet is never bland from chasing the baby fish I would cull, for not having good genes for color nor mass, now go to her,she loves lettece and I do give her pellets and her favorite treats, mealworms plus she gets to wonder the house and sleep next to the the cats, even my relatives love her everytime time they come over they ask to see her🤠 sorry for rambling

My neighbor has three, as well as a few painted turtles and a map, and there is two basking spots. All the turtles but the map get on one spot, but the poor little dude is the only one on the opposite spot. They are very territorial in my experience.

Sadly one day my brother brought home a full sized female res I was 13-14 had no idea what I got myself in to when I said yes I’ll take this random turtle you got from a lake. She had hooks falling out of her shell and I had no idea what to do for her. But about 6 years later Bonita is doing great in her mansion of a 80 gallon tank with egg crate basking area I know it will never compare to her lake lifestyle but I could never put her back in the wild so in the glass mansion she stays a bachelorette.

Great video! Thank you for mentioning that they will need a BIG tank if kept indoors. I have a 120 gallon tank in my garage that I need to finish sealing with aquarium silicone. The tank itself weighs approx 130 lbs, if I did my math correctly. Gonna be a joy setting it up *ahem*. If you do a similar video to this regarding set-up, please emphasize that proper filtration is critical!! I'm having issues with my Penn-Plax 1500 at the moment 😖😭
AND...Do NOT let the little beggar have anything but commercial turtle food until they're out of the juvenile stage! My diva RES, Tully once introduced to mealworms wouldn't eat pellets (any brand) again for over a year and will absolutely have nothing to do with greens of any kind. It shows in her scutes. Thankfully, she's once again welcomed Reptomin back into her diet.

I'm from china,Red-eared slider and Chinese pond turtle (cb) are very cheap in China. You can have a baby turtle for 3 yuan = 50 cents. Chinese pond turtles are rare in the wild, but there are many red-eared sliders. This is A sad story 😭, I hope people don’t release the Red-eared slider at will and protect the native turtles
