I just want to appreciate for a moment that this is Oliveira's LITERAL nightmare. He literally had a nightmare about Dark's Lurkers before his championship run, and now we can see why.
Good thing he didn't have to face Dark then. That nightmare could get to him and we would be denied the epic story of Oliveira.
Dark figured out the perfect anti-terran strat. You can't calldown MULEs when every point of energy has to be spent scanning burrowed lurkers.
Nothing quite like exploiting Terran players' weirdly adamant refusal to ever make Ravens outside of TvT.
It was like...2+ years ago that I first wondered why zerg never used lurkers more like terran use widow mines. I now understand that idea is tinged with madness and only someone insane could accomplish the task.
Innovation is going to be hearing Lurker spines when no one is around and in his nightmares.

yeah but a scan is worth 300? minerals so the scan alone almost pays for the lurker
you're trading 300? + maybe a couple of marines (50-150) for a unit that costs 150/150
its actually a really good strat if the opponent REFUSES to build ravens
If someone used lurkers like this against me, I would get so tilted I'd be rotating towards ragequit in minutes.

I always wondered how many lurkers it would take to make a Terran run out of scans. Around 100 is a good answer.
The first game might explain why Byun sometimes goes mass orbital. Inno just didn’t have enough scans.
This makes a lot of sense because facing planetary fortresses as zerg sucks a LOT! Mass lurker punishes the terran for not having more orbitals... But then when they make orbitals, it's easier to snipe their expansions.
39:22 I like to think they're all sentient beings, like in Reboot, and someone has to end up rebooting into the role of that Lyote. Not everyone gets to be a Marine.

I love the strategy behind the first game : the early roaches encourages the terran to attack and invest in technology (cloak banchees), but by the time they are here, he has already a quintilion workers while the terran has slowed his economy.
Then the mass lurkers all over the place has the objective of consuming APM, control the map, and exhaust energy on the orbital (so no mules), when the energy is exhausted, it's the time to attack. He also punished the Terran for making planetaries instead of orbitals. But making orbitals make attacks much simpler. he put his opponent in a checkmate scenario.
Also it's quite an original strategy and i'm sure Dark wanted to show off a bit. and what a show it was !

I was wondering. If you siege up the lib on the edge of the map, then that might be because if Innovation doesnt pay attention and dark pulls aggro with an overlord. Wouldnt the liberator follow the Ovie a little so it can get attacked?

I feel like first game is like carbot animation about lurker
Innovation is like that one rock band from the 70's that still tours doing their most popular 20 or so songs at every concert; nostalgic, competent, a good time to be had, but losing that cutting edge they once had in their heyday.
Whereas Dark is that slightly younger rockstar whose gimmick is taking random objects from the audience to use as guitar picks, and using them to freestyle on his guitar. It doesn't always work, but it's entertaining and impressive nonetheless.

Maybe 50 scans at 300mins each. Get a Raven. It seems like the pros never do things like get Ravens because, in theory, if you handle things perfectly, you don't need a Raven, so getting it is putting you behind. But instead you don't handle things even removely close to perfectly, use 50 scans, lose hundred of units, have all your attacks rebuffed losing you the inititive. Just get the fucking Raven.

if i had to choose a player to take on some deep learning AI...it wouldn't be byun, maru, hero, cure, clem, reynor, maxpax, or even serral. It'd be Dark. the computer would likely just short-circuit on "wtf is this?"

Ah, if game 3 was game 1.... you can see the though process of dark for game 2 (game 1 in the order it was cast): "...faster lurkers? faster lurkers." That was fun.
Game 1: My opponent has nothing but lurkers, but I will never build a single raven or battlecruiser! And I will build even more marines!
ravens would have been a trap, easy prey for the viper's abduct. also their only usable ability vs the zerg would have been the auto turret. well maybe it would have worked better than a bio army. who knows

Game 1 was like watching a deadlocked war where one side suddenly decided to just say "Screw it!" and collapse their enemy's entire economy. 😂

I just want to point out that lurkers cost 200 150 and require tier 3 tech for a 3 supply unit whereas terrans get widow mines at tier 1.5 for 75 25 and can build two at a time as a 2 supply unit, and the only real difference is that one hits all at once in a giant explosion whereas the other one only does DOT.

I mean, a widow mine will kill one marauder out of 8, deal 40 damage to 3 more in splash radius, and then do nothing for 15 seconds while a lurker will murder all 8 marauders in 5 seconds, so maybe there are other differences you overlooked.

I mean Ravens were made cheaper and with faster build time for exactly this reason, but Innovation didn’t make any and paid the price.
Why does innovation keep throwing bio at lurkers though.. not a single liberator battle cruiser or even a banshee would have been really useful

As a Terran player, Zerg is my worst matchup. So I've been watching TvZ games to see what to do. This did not help. :D
