Ranking the 50 States (2024 NEW!)

Thinking about moving or just curious as to how your state stacks up against the other states? This list shows the rankings of all 50 states! Some states do really well in health care, others do well in education, and some states seem to struggle in almost every category. The Best States rankings by U.S. News looked at several key data points to measure how well states are doing. In addition to health care and education, the rankings looked at the state’s economy; infrastructure (roads, bridges, internet, etc.); public safety; natural environment; fiscal stability of the state government; and even the opportunities residents have living there.
Health care and education were weighted most heavily. Then came state economies, infrastructure, and the opportunity states offer their citizens. Fiscal stability followed closely in weighting, followed by measures of crime and corrections and a state's natural environment.
