  • Fiji Airways, flag carrier of Fiji has two fantastic A350's in service. I absolutely loved it. But for some reason a lot of others are very critical of the airline. Why could this be, and should you fly Fiji Business Class? Let's find out on this trip from Los Angeles to Nadi.
This flight was part of a larger Alaska Airlines Award ticket for 55,000 miles for ORD-SEA-LAX-NAN-AKL

So Fiji Airways: Have you flown it? Would you prefer to connect in Fiji rather than taking US or ANZAC airlines?

    Thanks for this.
I have the good fortune to be booked on Fiji's A350 from Vancouver to Melbourne in January in business class. Fiji Airways is due to take delivery of its extra A350s in August, which should lower the risk of equipment swaps on the North American routes (the A330s will be used to serve Australia, NZ and Japan apparently).
Business class is very keenly priced, at least out of Vancouver, being double that of economy on the day I'm flying and about 40% of the price of business class from the US3 and Qantas from the US west coast (and only a couple of hundred dollars more than flying economy on Qantas non-stop from LA for that matter). It's reassuring to know that despite the low price, it's pretty good.
I'll try their economy in April on a flight to San Francisco (unless I bid to upgrade). It also looks pretty good.
One final thought: as a Melburnian, transiting through Nadi is a lot easier than transiting through Sydney.

did the same trip in business class from LAX on the 9th of September . Loved it as well there were some things that did amuse us but we would and will do the trip again. We didnt notice the music on landing , We flew onto Sydney from Nadi as well . The lounge details were the same they said you can only use air NZ lounge and it was very crowded but we found seats out on the veranda as well . Nice review too enjoy reliving the journey again

Great job on the review. Haven't flown Fiji Airways but I did fly Qantas business class from LAX to Melbourne on the A380 back in 2020. So I flew the old A380 cabin (2-2-2) and I don't know if Qantas has retrofitted all their Supers with the new seats but I would definitely say this Fiji Airways A350 product beats the QF cabin I flew to Oz night and day.

Some nice Santa Monica footage -we love that in and out burger location ;) Would be helpful to us analytical fare shoppers to know what kind of pricing you pay on your trips - whether points or cash - half the fun of flying is the hunt for a great deal!

In my videos the past couple of years I post the prices on cash or miles in the video description! It’s a bit hard on this specific flight because it included 4 flights on one ticket, but this was booked using 55,000 Alaska miles. Sadly this sweet spot is going away this year.

Thanks very much for this - I'll be flying that route in the other direction. It's supposed to be an A350.... I have flown NZ biz from AHL to HOU, and thought they were pretty good, particularly in the drinks department.

I wonder if all the lounge strangeness is connected with the ownership structure. Qantas own a large percentage and Ear En Zud (Air NZ) are also (much smaller) part owners.

Quite possible. I also think it may be a holdover from COVID days (when some lounges were closed) and/or simply misinformed ground staff.

We are flying this exact flight in February with my 3 kids. Can you tell me how we get access to those lounges? Do we have to pay extra? We have a 7 hour layover after we land in LAX from Florida. It's a 2 full day travel for us and I'm nervous. We are flying coach of course. Your seat looks amazing.

So I'm not an expert in LAX like I am Chicago, but I don't believe that any of the lounges in the Bradley Terminal (the international one) have day passes. I'm also assuming you don't have airline status with Oneworld (Sapphire and up would grant access even on economy). The only lounge that you'd possibly have access to is the Amex Centurion lounge if you have a Platinum card.
The Club at LAX and the Alaska Lounge sell day passes but are in different terminals (and you can't transfer airside), and likely won't reduce your anxiety. With 7 hours I'd say there's plenty to do in the terminal, or perhaps grab an uber and head to the beach like I did, it was nice to walk around before a long flight.

i Flew this airplane, Bus. Class in 2019 330 air bus and the service food condiments were great/amazing and later they have tightened up the budget to cheap soy trail mix and Chex mix food is terrible. desert is cheap too seems like management are making more profit at our expenses

The business class section needs doors. And new FA uniforms.
