Damn, I uploaded this back in 2011. 7 years ago. This run only works on one specific version of Zdoom that doesn't let you record video, so I had to screen record it. I'm glad this speedrun won't be lost to time

yup i posted before i would make a faster run so i will, and there you have it :). and no i didn't use fraps, i recorded it with hypercam 2 and making the file smaller with handbrake. both are great programs and both are free.

I wonder how many runs ended because of those damn ice throwing guys. They are S tier for dangerous Doom era FPS enemies with that crazy scatter effect. Like they have little mini ice BFGs.
Exactly, during the summer they had a ID Software Collection sale. ALL ID Software games (Including Heretic, Hexen and Hexen 2) for $60. Be on the look out for deals like that for the Collections

Too bad nobody seems to be interested in making a better one. Maybe I'll ask Cacodemon if I ever bump into him again. :)
To answer your questions, at 12:46 no item is picked up at all (it can be found elsewhere). You can use any item with only one key stroke through key bindings.

its funny to me how ive never ever ever seen anyone playing hexen EVER get the helm in the first map, after you open the door and have to go upstairs to hit the other button before the bell tower part you can go to the right jump up two blocks and there it is. lmao.
Quite frankly, I think these graphics are pretty "high end" in their own right. Those are some nice sprites! Honestly some high production value HD 2D games would be nice. But HD 2D actually takes up a ton of memory. I hope that next gen consoles have enough, so we might actually see games like this again.

It's $5 on Steam - I strongly recommend also Googling and downloading the free jHexen enhancements for mouselook and rendering improvements, which you can use by telling jHexen where the Hexen.wad file is once you've bought the game.
You'd have to ask him, but I suppose the flechettes are the best reason. They're far more useful than the equivalents for Fighter or Mage. And the Wraithverge of course, most powerful weapon in the game.
If you're gonna try and beat the record, I recommend the original Hexen game for DOS, if you use that one it can probably be counted as a proper world record according to SDA rules. (See their website for information if you're interested, or ask me if you seriously want to attempt.) For an easier skip, try out this alternative method I recorded ages ago ?v=a-7frW3vMfU (And btw, I didn't make the run, all I did was make a video of it!) Good luck!

It means getting as fast as possible from beginning of the game to the last level mostly on highest difficulty etc.... it's allowed to use Glitches/Bugs but stuff like third party programs/source ports or hacks are not allowed (source ports depends on the community) so ya.... read description

The Serpent Staff heals you if you hit an enemy with it at point blank. That's gotta help (though I see the comment from dada78641 where they say the Warrior is much better)
I would recommend that you try to make it an SDA run (see speeddemosarchive . com), that way you can have the world record and lots of people will see your video. The only requirement is that you record it from the original Hexen game, no source port (if I'm not mistaken). Looking forward to your run, let me know when it's finished so I can link it in an annotation.

That's a Krater of Might that's being used, it's an item that restores your blue and green mana to 100%. It's bound to a shortcut key.
Due to the Icon of the Defender item which makes you temporarily invulnerable (the little castle tower like icon in the top right corner).

meh for speedruns it isnt that good... and i think warrior benefits most from it anyway mage benefits from the amulet i think

A few flechettes and the Boss is dead : Wrath of Cronos fixed a _lot_ of this marvellous Game's issues

Is it GZDOOM? In the vanilla Doom engine monsters are infinitely tall and can;'t be jumped upon.
ZDoom 2.0.98.0, that's what it was recorded with and the only engine the movie file plays with
