    It's his voice. Hatred will prevail" is basically a prophesy written down like Völuspá poem (Ragnarök) about current state of affairs in Europe and the World. How greed, corruption, capitalism/consumerism rule our lives and a warning against the rise of populism/fascism. How hatred will prevail and love die if we continue on this path. The BDSM is symbolic to both the relationship between the ruling class(elite) and the people and between capitalism and the consumer(slave).

    By far the best entry ever. Not only a stunning, unapologetic, dark, unique, and sexy performance, but also a deeply sophisticated attitude, a true work of conceptual art. They MUST win, because they deserve it. They start a new era for this tired, saturated contest. Real fine art in Eurovision, finally.

    This is just so captivating and addictive. It's a brilliant fusion of techno, punk and industrial and the Icelandic language adds to this. One of the best entries in Eurovision in many years and I can see this in the final top 5. In fact, I have a sneaky feeling it could give Iceland their first Eurovision victory. By the way, I have discovered other music by Hatari and its incredible. Good luck Iceland.

    I'm American too and this song is my favorite of the year. Hopefully, they can get the chorus to sound right for their performances at Eurovision. (I will be shocked if they don't qualify for the final)
    Here is a translation of the lyrics lyricstranslate.com/en/hatri%C3%B0-mun-sigra-hate-will-prevail.html
    And here is their explanation of what the song is about "Hatred Prevails is in our view, a dystopia, a reflection on power and the powerless, hope and hopelessness.
    It is a dark vision of the future, a warning against what we see as a possible reality if we don't love one another. Populism is on the rise in Europe."

    Certain Eurovision entries have a polarizing effect and are defined by the divisiveness of the audience either loving or hating them. Genre is something that often plays a big part in this phenomenon and you can (a lot of the time) expect anything that sounds distinctly 'non-Eurovision' to end up grouped in here.
    Last year we had AWS from Hungary which had similar to Iceland this year, a song which isn't easy listening for a lot of people because it is quite a violent and disorderly performance in both cases. It can be a tumultuous experience for those not familiar or opposed to that type of music.
    It is important to consider that Eurovision entries that are divisive or controversial can do quite well, four of the past five winners have a split of champions and critics.
    -Rise Like A Phoenix, I feel is an outlier because the song and performance were good, the criticism seems to be with Conchita instead.
    -I did not care for 1944 at the time but now I do very much like it, though I was never surprised by its victory.
    -I feel that Salvador's win was well deserved as he delivered with a surprising song, prior to that year I would not have thought a song like Amar Pelos Dois would be able to win, what with favoured Eurovision songs becoming increasingly contemporary and more complex both in composition and stage presentation.
    -Toy is not my cup of tea and the only winner of Eurovision across its entire history I don't like at least a tiny bit, for lack of a better explanation it feels like an internet meme embodied as a song.
    I do like Hatrið Mun Sigra, it is designed to stand out and make a statement. I think it should qualify and I'm not ruling it out as a potential winner especially if the core voting audience is divided between the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland and Russia which seem to be early favourites.

  • @karenrobertsdottir4101
    @karenrobertsdottir4101 5 лет назад +3

    "I don't have a clue what the words mean" - Hate will win, Europe will collapse, and love will die ;)
    "I like the guy who's pretend drumming in the background" - He's the son of Iceland's ambassador to the UK ;)
    "I don't have any idea what the other options were this year" - Terrible ;) There even was a song literally titled "Licky Licky", I kid you not. And not self-parodic.
    "Every song that they've sent in the past five years has been... 'Oh...' A let-down." - Preach! We have A) crazy amounts of musical talent here, and B) crazy-bad judgement when it comes to picking who will represent us :Þ

    • @Darwinist
      @Darwinist 5 лет назад

      It's not "crazy-bad judgment." as much as the actual hip/cool/talented musicians of Iceland by and large looking down on Eurovision. It's the most Normie thing going here, and basically anyone that wants to go to Eurovision has been an inappropriate ambassador for Icelandic music by definition.

    Musically, it is a grower, I like the beat and the chorus. It's off-putting that the lead-singer is not a 'singer'. But it is a work of art, and understandable from the point of view of its purpose. But I don't think I will vote for it, since it is a dystopia, even though it should be considered as a 'warning', I miss some uplifting irony, I miss an element of hope. I am not giving up, I don't believe that society is declining. Love will prevail, not hate.

    I like the instrumentals, it's all very Kraftwerk/Rammstein. However, the high vocal is just not doing it for me. Especially live it just sounds very... "thin" (rather than angelic)? it's a little jarring for me.
    Having said that overall it ranks somewhere in the middle for me. It's ok, but I don't love it.
    But I get it and of course it's going to qualify. I would hold my horses when it comes to it actually winning the whole thing - but qualifying should be a breeze for them. And they'll be a welcome bit of spice in the final.
