College ball tends to be a lot more unpredictable and wild - you can see things that would never fly in pro ball. You can see a similar effect in e-sports: the professional players tend to figure out and stick to the meta builds for the season; normal people on the ladder, meanwhile, are often more creative and flexible in their gameplay and build orders because they aren't as likely to get punished by their opponents for not playing the most optimal meta build. Nine times out of ten, the normies would get crushed by the pros, but the normies can be just as entertaining, if not more so, for an _audience._

There is a running back in the NFL who plays for the Tennessee Titans named Derrick Henry and he used to play college football here at the University of Alabama where he won a Heisman trophy. There is a video of his vicious stiff arms into would-be defenders. You might like it. His nickname is King Henry. For a big guy he can run fast. We've had numerous championships here at the University of Alabama and we have had thousands of star players go to the NFL. There is a long list of extraordinary players that went to school here. But you can't go wrong watching any Southeastern Conference ( SEC ) college team. It's the premier conference of college football.

College football has a couple things going for it. One, the sheer number of participants, and the fans that have vested interest in their college (students, alumni, parents of players, etc). Two, of the 11 stadiums worldwide that seat more than 100,000 people... EIGHT of them are NCAA college football stadiums.
Three... and this is important when it comes to rivalry games... college football is over fifty years older than the NFL. First game was played in 1869, though it looked a lot more like rugby back then. You've got some colleges out there that have had gameday bullseyes on a neighboring team for well over 100 years.

CFB is unique in that there are 10 independent conferences under 1 umbrella of rules & regulations .
Each conferences has their own commissioners, refferies TV deals, Conf- championship, ect but play for one National championship .
Most teams play 8 conf games and 4 out of conf games. Teams move up and down a national ranking system each week called the "Top 25"
This creates rivalries between conferences in addition to inner conf rivalries.

Those "blindside" blocks used to be legal but they have been made illegal for the last couple of years. They are trying to minimize possible concussions. Also, helmet to helmet has become a penalty in most cases, called targeting. Targeting, if upheld, gets the offending player taken out for the rest of the game(and part of the following game, depending when the foul occurred during the game, basically the player is "suspended" for 4 quarters).

  • @MrPloppy1
    @MrPloppy1 Год назад +5

You should do a reaction to "stiff arms." That's where powerful running backs are carrying the ball with one hand and just shoving defenders outta the way with the other hand. Derrick Henry is particularly vicious with his stiff arms. He just drives defenders off their feet and slams them to the ground.
Also, you should watch Gus Johnson's best NFL calls. He's a play-by-play announcer who gets extremely excited calling big plays.

You can't go wrong with any of the Southeastern Conference teams. Consistently multiple SEC teams are in the top 25. We are adding two more teams to our conference in the 23-24 season. I'm a University of Kentucky Wildcat fan! Go Big Blue!
Just an example how crazy it can get: University of Tennessee played Alabama back in October at Tennessee. Tennessee beat 'Bama and the fans were jumping around so much, they were recorded on a seismograph a few miles away! They stormed the field and took down the uprights!
There are several colleges in all the states. University of Florida, Florida State, University of Miami are the big ones in Florida. UF is in the SEC, FSU and Miami are in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC)
SEC teams: University of Kentucky, University of Florida, U of Georgia, U of Alabama, U of Tennessee, Vanderbilt University, Auburn University, U of Mississippi, Mississippi State University, U of South Carolina, U of Missouri, Texas A & M, Louisiana State University, U of Arkansas. The two being added for the 23-24 season: Universities of Texas and Oklahoma.

When you see the st behind the school name that’s and abbreviation for state so if you see for instance Florida vs Florida St. those are two different schools multiple states can have university of and also state. Let’s go back to the example I used prior University of Florida you’ll either see UF or Florida where as Florida State you’ll see it as Florida St., FSU or Florida State University. The same premise goes with schools like the university of North Carolina (UNC) & North Carolina State ( NC State). While some states doe only have one major football program most states have multiple schools.

At 2:18 you can hear the announcer say "South Carolina deserves to have it and they do!" This hit was insane because they play right before this let Michigan keep the ball on one of the worst first down calls in history. They brought out a measuring stick to see if the ball was past the first down line. it was probably about 6 or 7 inches too short and they called it a first down. One of the best hits of all time when you know the backstory to it.
Edit: The guy who made the hit, Jadeveon Clowney was the number one pick in the NFL draft because of it. He's still in the league today, although he's never been that good. The guy on the receiving end of the hit became a gardener.

Most of these hits are legal. In recent years there have been rule changes to make helmet to helmet contact a penalty. Which is pretty controversial because football is inherently a violent game so if you’re afraid of getting hurt you just shouldn’t play. But changing the rules of contact just makes it into an entirely different game that’s not as fun to play and not as fun to watch. There’s also a trend of calling penalties on any play where there’s a hard hit, even if it was completely legal. The game has gotten softer.

The idea is that with that (or greater) amount of force pushing the helmet up, if it stayed secure it'd do damage. If the helmet really wants to come off, but it can't, it'll probably break a neck or similar. :/ The helmet popping off is actually a safety feature, letting the force dissipate on the helmet itself rather than the neck or jaw.

History and geography have much to do with the popularity of college football. Since there are only 32 NFL teams, one might be quite a ways from a game. Travel can be an issue. But there are literally hundreds of college teams ( including all divisions/levels) so a game is usually close by.
As to history, the NFL is a mere 100 or so years old while the first intercollegiate football game took place in 1869 (Rutgers U. vs. Princeton U.) By the time the NFL came into existence, the college game was wildly popular.

College football culture wise is probably a lot more similar to how the UK views their soccer clubs in terms of support etc. Pretty much every region in the US has some form of very good college football program, or a program that has been good at some point. People are far more likely to support their local college team regardless of the level of play they are at, and whether or not they are successful. My university for example is only in NCAA Division 2 for Football, yet the games still sell out every weekend. The closest NFL team is 3 hours away, so for many people here this team is just the more reasonable and affordable option. People often also root for teams for schools they themselves may have never gone to, as like supporting any club it is just something that a family does/has done for forever. Back home I am from one of the few regions of the US where college football is actually less popular than the NFL, and that is mostly due to our NCAA conference collapsing and the fact that my regions has a bunch of massive urban populace centers with pro sports teams all right near one another well within easy travel distance, so it has a more robust following. Even then, there are still a few HUGE CFB teams in my region despite that, so even in areas where it isn't as dominant it still has a noticeable presence. With pro sports in the US, it is very market dependent on whether or not a team in a specific sport will do well, and on top of that they realistically have to put up results 9/10 times to retain any sort of following. A good example of this is the Arizona Coyotes, which are an NHL franchise that have been around for almost 30 years now and still have one of the lowest attendance rates in the league and worst historical franchise records. Just putting a club in the city was not enough. ASU on the other hand sells out a 50k+ person football stadium every weekend(used to be 70k they had to reduce the capacity of the stadium). This is likely due to pro sports being more of a corporate endeavor and something that didn't really take off in viewership until post WWII here(outside of the MLB, and technically the NFL but it was quite niche until after WWII), where as collegiate sports have always been a big thing in the US. Grid Iron Football in specific was also codified in the US by college club teams, specifically Rutgers and Princeton in 1869, so its roots are in collegiate level sports rather than pro level, so it would make sense there is a longer and larger historical following.

Rule changes have 1/2 these hits flagged for "personal fouls" 15 yards. Helmet to helmet, leading with the crown of your helmet, leaving your feet to "spear" a player. On passes many times the defender will "time" his hit to dislodge the ball
from the receiver. Early is a 15 yard foul.... NFL it`s a spot foul, ball placed at where the foul happened. Also "blindside"
blocks are fouls IF you're facing your endzone, this so at least the player has a chance to see you.

There's multiple colleges in each state. Florida has Florida State Seminoles (Gold/Burgandy), USF Bulls (Gold/Green) Florida Gators (Orange/Blue), Miami "U" (Orange/ Green) to name a few. Nearly every state has "University of STATE" & "STATE state University"
    For example:
    University of Oregon Ducks
    Oregon State University Beavers
    Michigan State Spartans
    University of Michigan Wolverines
    Arizona State SunDevils
    University of Arizona Wildcats
There's HUNDREDS of college football teams in the US!

The majority of these hits are legal. The refs are close by and if a hit is illegal you will see an immediate yellow flag. They are working a lot on the safety of the players but, they are mostly focusing on protecting the head.

Most states have at least 2 college teams that play in division 1 and even more at the lower divisions. The Florida teams you saw were the University of Florida (Gators), Florida State (Seminoles) and the University of Central Florida (Knights) - and there's more D1 florida teams (USF, FIU, FAU, Miami just off the top of my head). And a lot of the flags you're seeing in these big hit videos is because of illegal contact to someone's head.

So here's the thing, my British brother. When you do choose your college and NFL teams to pull for, once you make that choice, it's over. You can have other teams you like and appreciate but win or lose. Your team is your team forever. You gotta be willing to sit through a decade of losses whilst the program you're pulling for makes changes

    I'll recommend Ohio State.
The Buckeyes are perennial top 10, and often underrated because they aren't from the SEC. (The benefit of the doubt always goes SEC)
An awful lot if the hits you groaned at were OSU plays.
The Game is the rivalry between OSU and ...well, we don't say the name of The Team Up North,Nort they're the Wolverines.
The Wolverines have won the last 2 rivalry games, after almost a decade of OSU dominance. ...that brings a lot of heat into a rivalry that was softening during that time.
Both OSU and TTUN made it into the College Football Playoffs this last year. Ohio State lost by 1 point to the eventual champions, Georgia after what might be the best college football game ever.

You can’t go wrong picking a college football team. Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Michigan, Clemson, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Penn State are some of the most popular bandwagon teams, but just with division one alone there are 131 teams at the top level, and another 120+ at the lower subdivision level of division one. Honestly there are 10 conferences, and one group of teams with no conference, at the top level known as FBS. You could realistic support one team from each conference and chances are that they will not play against each other more than once or twice a decade as 75% of all your games are within your conference. Every city has a college team at some level, and even some small towns, so college football in the United States is the closest you can get to english soccer/football with the passion of the fans, though mostly not violent like it tends to get in the UK, and the fact that litterally every single person has allegiance to a college team but not all have NFL teams. College football is teh better attended football, more entertaining football, and if you take out the Super Bowl it’s the more watched version of football in the United States.

True, but the downside is weaker teams are much less likely to get upset wins over the most elite schools, compared to weak NFL teams who can still beat the best NFL teams. Literally any NFL team can beat any other team, but you get some matchups in college like Alabama vs LA Monroe, where you just wish you could simulate them like in Madden since you already know the outcome.

Most states in the US have 2 colleges that participate in division 1 athletics college football. States have other colleges that play in divison 2 and 3, basically the smaller the number the better. All these clips come from NCAA D1
    For example:
    Michigan
    Michigan State
    Or
    Florida
    Florida State
The difference between a regular college and one that ends in “state” is that the one that ends in state is a smaller but higher in terms of education. This is why you saw multiple Floridas. Or it’s just repeated clips of the same team.

College football is an interesting contrast to the NFL. Obviously its a lower level of talent, but all the players are young and in their prime so you get to see some amazing athletics. Also the college coaches are more willing to take risks with their quarterbacks and other skill positions, since they don't have to worry about their player's long term health, as the players will probably only be in their starting lineup for a few years. So you see a lot designed quarterback runs and frequent use of the option play in which the QB will either run or pitch the ball to another player when he's about to be tackled.
However, the big downside of college football is that the talent parity is significantly less than in the NFL. There's nothing like a draft or salary cap to even out the talent between teams. Colleges are only limited by the number of scholarships they can issue. Players can attend any college they want. So naturally all the biggest, richest, and most famous school get all the best players.
