To those of y'all who are utterly confused about there only being one cadence: they're marching through the halls. Each person only hears the cadence, like, once before it fades out.
I used to poke fun at drum line (I’m primarily a guitarist) because “Oh it’s drums it’s just hitting stuff on beat” and then I started playing drums and now pretty much love drum line and their grooves.
Drum Major Confession: Listening to the cadence was my favorite part of marching band and sometimes I'd intentionally stall signaling a song just to let the drum line jam it out for a little bit.
@Trenton Pressley today was lit school band teachers were out I’m in 8th grade so a couple of trombonist and trumpets went to the percussion section and we basically made a beat lol
I went to Clark High School in San Antonio to watch may grand son in the drum line march throughout school and it was Freaking Awesome!........ There is something magical about a drum line. Love it...thanks for posting.

I miss hearing the sound pf my highschool drumline. Could always hear them practicing after school. We had one of the best highschool drumlines in Southern California
When we marched in my director would holler my name, me being the only quad player and that was the signal for us to start jamming out. Everybody loved it. I made it up as I went and other schools always wanted to know where we got the cadence from. Being in a drumline is one the coolest things a kid can be part of. Miss is every day.
This is just one of our cadences. This one is used for marching through the halls to bring everyone to the pep rally. Why would we play different stuff? People literally hear it once before we've gone, everybody hears the same thing.
The reason they did it is bc they fade out for people they've passed as they March and so instead of playing different things that only a select few will hear they just play the same thing on repeat
That’s a cool on board camera for the snare drum! It kind of makes me think of the on board view you see during a NASCAR and Indycar race! It would be cool if all the schools that do marching band can get a camera like this one, but I know it wasn’t the school’s camera it was used by whoever was using this drum.
One time we brought our middle school drumline out to a soccer game. We starting cheering for the drumline students on the team. Then we started playing everyone our team made a goal like the highschool does at the football games. We were very cringy and annoyed the crap out of everyone but it was so worth it. Of course our drumline hasn't been very disciplined since our old band teacher left so people kept randomly playing and we could get them to shut up so we finally decided to leave. There was also the fact that the security guard was circling us making is nervous and our band teacher who had told us to practice right outside of the band room hasn't come out yet and we didn't want to wait for that to happen.
I mean playing in the stands as a middle schooler, with a high school band, to test the waters is a good thing, i did it this year and I'm joining our marching band next year and it was great to learn what would actually happen but dear god with all middle schoolers sounds horrifying
I rember seeing a high school marching in a parade once that had 3 different cadences. each one would feature a different line of snares, and different tenor drummer.
Comments on drumming videos are always toxic. People look for the one thing that they have over the person in the video and then go to town with it like they're some kind of divine knowledgeable drum tech.
Kristin Victoria Hemphill well you made it seem like you didnt know every school's cadence was different by saying "omg yes our cadence was different". Because its obvious
At my school we marched through our halls on our rivalry game day, and on our homecoming day, full band (our halls weren’t that big), we had to go in twos
This is why I want to play snare this coming season. Freshman year I was a clarinet and when marching through the halls we didn't play anything, just kinda walked with our instruments up. It was a little embarrassing
As a clarinet player, sometimes I wish I picked percussion but we already have more percussion than any of our sections combined. That isn't even over exaggerated, sometimes, we don't have some of them play in song since there's so many.
Why do most people hate on bass drums. Yeah basses are most times easier to learn but think you are carry anywhere from a 40 pound drum to a 125 pound drum. I play a 100 pound bass drum for hours while with a heavy and thick uniform on. And in 100 degrees or more. It's harder then what people think. Also most times we can't see forward so if you are marching down your school hall ways you have to watch for students that you can't see coming.

I'm a high school teacher. When this happens at my school I get my entire class to follow them in the hallway. Cool job guys!
I wish our high school had more female drummers like your all's high school. I think female snare drummer are cool.
Well thank you I'm a female snare player

Omg we did this when I was in band! Our drum captain was absolutely amazing! She was the BEST.
I always get excited and happy when I see female drummers especially on snare (and tenors)
Currently we have 3 out of 7 female snares, 1 bass, and 1 cymbal. Front Ensemble/Pit has like a lot tho

michael gronholm there the new pearl harnesses that came out a couple years ago

even though I play baritone

They need to have more than one cadence

dude needs some new sticks
SavageTaco, dude the tape is torn from all the rim shots lmao he needs new sticks badly
Marc P or he needed to retape them.
I've played shows with much worse sticks, pretty sure those are perfectly fine.
He just needs to stop squeezing those shots.
I only get new sticks before a show if they are bad. If I am playing for practice I just re-wrap until they break.
2:02 my favorite part of the groove!!

Where's the triangle when you need it?
When my school does this we play our fight song as well.
Random Stuff In Oregon mine too.
Random Stuff In Oregon that’s called a march around the hallway
I honestly love this song
My teacher would not be happy with this but he’d probably be more mad if our feet were off time while doing it
So excited about band in Junior High now 😁
At my school our drumline plays in front of the whole school in our gym
woah ur so cool
So does every other school
mine too
Not necessarily. Our school is to big to fit in the gym so our Pep Rallies are in the Stadium
Wow I really didn’t want this to end.

Yeeeeeeaaaah.
I'll stick with bass drum.
