That looks amazing!! Yum!! Here’s a tip... Save some of those fried anchovies and put it on the plate as another crunchy/slightly salty condiment on your nasi lemak. Trust me, puts your nasi lemak on another level. 🤤
I've been obsessed with making indonesian/malaysian/surinamese dishes lately and you just give me another recipe to try on the list! Thank you Marion 💜!
Removing the chilli seeds and adding some oil before blending will give you a more smoother paste. And of course here in Malaysia we prefer the sambal to be more liquidy which you can achieve by blending the chillies with a lot of red onions/shallots. Kudos Marion.
I made it today using your recipes for both nasi lemak and ayam goreng. It so good, I’m from Singapore and my Canadian husband is like what is this, so good! Thanks for sharing the recipe, looking forward to more Malay inspired dishes. Lots of love from Canada.
Hi Marion. I want to share a personal twist in cooking the rice. Try adding 2 or 3 small slices of ginger, a pinch of crushed blackpepper, salt, small cuts of onion and pandan leaf while cooking the rice. I would also add a few eggs (whole eggs with shell) into the rice to be cooked together. So happy to see you sharing nasi lemak recipe to the world.
I am from Pakistan. Now I am in Bahrain. I am buying nasi lemak here 25Ringgit. I was in Malaysia 10 yrs. But see your channel I hope I can make at home
Thanks Marion for the video. My version of home made Nasi Lemak is pandan leaves, lemongrass, fenugreek, shallot, pepper corn, ginger and a pinch of salt. You didn't wash the rice. Just put them in the rice cooker. Don't put too much coconut milk as the rice will be sticky and won't cooked. As for sambal, I used the other type of chilli, the curly ones as they are not as hot as the ones you used. I fry the peanuts and anchovies before using the oil to cook sambal. Ayam goreng is optional because the original nasi lemak consists of coconut rice, anchovies, sambal, hard boiled egg, peanuts and a few slices of cucumber. Your version is the present version. Kudos to you for making the Nasi Lemak, my Malaysia's national dish and favourite among Malaysians. I thank you and proud of you for this.
I love your enthusiasm and your willingness to use what you have (and for us to use what we have) rather than insisting that it must be done a certain way.
You can find pandan leaves at asian grocery store in aussie. I found them in sydney, melbourne gold coast and brisbane. And if you ever been to cairns.. They plant it in the city along the road. So cool.
This receipt turned out to be fantastic. It’s really difficult to buy all the ingredients in part of Norway where I live, but even with substitute, the food was fantastic. Sure this will be in my menu when I have guests over next time 😁
My wife prefers basmati rice and I find it really tasty. She also adds halba (fenugreek) and another type of lemongrass called serai wangi (citronella grass) which makes the rice so fragrant. Some stalls here steam rice (kukus) instead of cooking it in a pot/rice cooker.
My dear Marrion 🥰🥰 That Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng is so so yummy delicious !! Sometimes i have it for my breakfast but with fried ikan bilis.. Please try more Malaysian dishes. You're an amazing person. Love u.Tc💚💚💚💚💚💚

Just a little tip from the Sembirings' kitchen: Before the rice gets somewhat dry, move it all to a rice steamer. You'll get a much fluffier rice with this two-step method. Oh, and we usually add bayleaf alongside the lemongrass.
So Thankful to you for sharing up this video,we are glad that Australia is a multicultural country and we have so many food options to try on without visiting any particular country also .its one of my favourite menu,i will definitely try at my home kitchen.
Nasi lemak, a peasant dish with a very humble beginning. Nowadays in Malaysia, it's trendy to have it either with spicy fried chicken, chicken or beef rendang, seafood sambal etc.
That crispy fried anchovies is also good with plain hot rice porridge snd some fried onions with soy sauce. Good for settling down your tummy after being sick
Thank you for cooking this Malaysia no 1 not only fav breakfast but any time of the day or night meal. Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng is my fav nasi lemak too.👍🏽 Most of us use a rice cooker to cook the nasi lemak. It's easier. Your sambal looked delicious but is a bit dry, it was ok before you added the onions and ikan bilis. The onions and ikan bilis are good but we at least I do, prefer our sambal to be with more gravy. Nasi Lemak is normally served with peanuts- skin on, boiled eggs, sliced cucumber and crispy fried ikan bilis, not all go in the sambal.😀
Marionnnnn! Thank you for the recipe. As a Malaysian, I know how to cook nasi lemak but seeing this video still makes me happy, super happy! My fav chef cooking one of my fav food yay!
what we do is we take tuna and boil it with tiny amount of water. add in sliced galangal and 'asam keping/asam gelugur'. put alot of salt so the fish will become sour and salty. then leave it overnight. next morning only we cook the sambal. blend dried chilies, small chilies, big onions, garlic, and belacan. then we cook the blended ingredients with lots of oil. we also add in palm sugar and white sugar. lastly we put the boiled tuna and all the soup stock into the sambal. we will have spicy hot, sweet but sour sambal with fragrance of the galangal and belacan. it taste wonderful.
..... wow Marion... for me your nasi lemak and ikan bilis is today’s jackpot as it is one of my mums favorites from her childhood born in Malaysia/Indonesia. I fried some slices of ginger and shallots, add pandan leaves and pour in the coconut milk before putting all into the rice, This way the rice is more fragrant. Love your dry sambal, will definitely try it! Thank you 😊
I have tried your version of sambal and I love it. Surprisingly you don't add salt in your sambal but the anchovies give the sambal that salty taste and I also reduce the tamarind paste from 1 tablespoon to 1 teaspoon. Don't want for it to be too sour. I am going to stick to your version of sambal from now own cause I love how the fried onion and anchovies mix together with the sambal.
