Nasi Lemak.. The best Malay breakfast you can have... with Teh Tarik (frothy black tea with condensed milk). Yummy!!
That sounds so good with the tea ☕️
You've just inspired me to place Malaysia on my priority list of places to travel after the end of this pandemic.😄
Indeed 😋😋

Too much talking hmmm...@@MrShehau
When I stopped by Malaysia on my way to Australia (and vice versa), I ordered Nasi Lemak at the KLIA2 food court and instantly fell in love with it. I've been craving it! This is soooooo cool 😎 I'd be able to make it for my family to enjoy as well! 💖 Thanks, Chef Marion! 😊
Nice! That's good to know ☺👍
Same.I cannot remember this place . I love their nasi lemak and laksa
@Ben Telador the one they sell at mcdonald's malaysia is quite tasty and they're available at every mcdonalds in malaysia.
@@nevillelongbottom106 not to nitpick but most Malaysian will not buy Nasi Lemak at McD although I did buy it twice in my life out of curiousity. The most authentic one is the one they sells at the streets and local foodcourts.
My husband and I fell in love with Nasi Lemak when we travelled to KL. You made this look so easy to make at home! Definitely cooking this! Thanks Marion 😍
That looks amazing!! Yum!! Here’s a tip... Save some of those fried anchovies and put it on the plate as another crunchy/slightly salty condiment on your nasi lemak. Trust me, puts your nasi lemak on another level. 🤤
Im from Malaysia, and Im so happy to see this dish is on your channel! Nasi Lemak is one of the signature dish in Malaysia, I really recommend everyone to try them! And thanks Marion for making this video, LOVE FROM MALAYSIA!!!
About 45 years ago, my first father-in-law owned a restaurant - he was not Asian nor was the restaurant. He taught me to make steamed long-grain rice by measuring water to my knuckle joint. Since then, I have taught many friends how to make perfect rice using the method you demonstrated in this video. I never knew how he figured out how to cook rice so perfectly & never knew it was an Asian method. He is no longer alive so I guess I will never know how he was taught. I now live in southern Alabama and Shrimp Gumbo is comfort food around here, rice is necessary. I am glad to see where this method originated!!!
So do Bangladeshis
I've been obsessed with making indonesian/malaysian/surinamese dishes lately and you just give me another recipe to try on the list! Thank you Marion 💜!
My pleasure 😊
Please add a bit of salt into the rice as well, bring up the taste of the nasi lemak .
For more authentic taste, you can add sliced shallot, ginger and a little bit salt in the rice
I would add fenugreek seeds as well
I was going to say no seasoning in the rice?
@@vignesh69841 it wont taste good tho. Cause the coconut milk gonna taste overwhelming without salt
Thank you for sharing Malaysian signature dish Nasi Lemak is our national pride💕
My friend is Malaysian and I can't wait to visit and taste her food.
I am from Iran and next to our own food, Malaysian dishes are my favourite, Indonesian and Indian come next!
Removing the chilli seeds and adding some oil before blending will give you a more smoother paste. And of course here in Malaysia we prefer the sambal to be more liquidy which you can achieve by blending the chillies with a lot of red onions/shallots. Kudos Marion.
One of my favourite childhood dishes 😍😍😍
I live in Malaysia 🇲🇾 for 7 years, I missed everything there! Even RNR they have always good selection to eat!
I sell Nasi Lemak for a living and yours looks so delicious..
I made it today using your recipes for both nasi lemak and ayam goreng. It so good, I’m from Singapore and my Canadian husband is like what is this, so good! Thanks for sharing the recipe, looking forward to more Malay inspired dishes. Lots of love from Canada.
My dear Marrion 🥰🥰 That Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng is so so yummy delicious !! Sometimes i have it for my breakfast but with fried ikan bilis.. Please try more Malaysian dishes. You're an amazing person. Love u.Tc💚💚💚💚💚💚
Any Malaysians here? 😍
🇲🇾
Here 👋🙂🇲🇾
here! my mum makes great nasi lemak too
Ya...i m malaysian
greetings from Germany!
When I see Nasi lemak on the title I literally says in my soul, my brain, my heart even my ancestors seeing me looking at this video, and saying "oh please don't screw this up"
I love your enthusiasm and your willingness to use what you have (and for us to use what we have) rather than insisting that it must be done a certain way.
I literally applauded after you added the ayam goreng. What a fantastic finish! So happy you're loving our proud dish and enjoying this :D
Jim from malaysia here, your nasi lemak is spot on and accesible to be implemented,u pronouced nasi lemak so sexily..
You can find pandan leaves at asian grocery store in aussie. I found them in sydney, melbourne gold coast and brisbane. And if you ever been to cairns.. They plant it in the city along the road. So cool.
I think I must go to cairns to look the pandan leaf..I saw mango tree in goldcoast 😅
Happiness overloaded whenever Marion posts something.
Aw thanks Marco!
I must have been Asian in another life 🙏
I’m obsessed.
Marian, your cooking is incredible ,delicious and inspiring,
I make a lot of your recipes, thank you 🌻
Ohhhh. This morning, I had ate a nasi lemak with a beef rendang and together with a tea 'o'. It's heaven n superb. 💕💕💕💕 from Malaysia 🇲🇾
Two of my favourite dishes! I didn't think of combining the two ☺️
This receipt turned out to be fantastic. It’s really difficult to buy all the ingredients in part of Norway where I live, but even with substitute, the food was fantastic. Sure this will be in my menu when I have guests over next time 😁
The frequency you're uploading new content is AMAZING to me!!!
Nasi lemak, a peasant dish with a very humble beginning. Nowadays in Malaysia, it's trendy to have it either with spicy fried chicken, chicken or beef rendang, seafood sambal etc.
I want some nasi lemak now. Looks so good!
Hi Marion. I want to share a personal twist in cooking the rice. Try adding 2 or 3 small slices of ginger, a pinch of crushed blackpepper, salt, small cuts of onion and pandan leaf while cooking the rice.
I would also add a few eggs (whole eggs with shell) into the rice to be cooked together.
So happy to see you sharing nasi lemak recipe to the world.
As soon as I saw the cooked coconut rice - pale white with teenist hint of greyish hue, I knew Mariod cooked well. That is the true color of nasi lemak.
Everybody so gangsta til the shrimp paste jar gets opened.
That's nothing compared to when my indo/dutch grandma was making her sambal. The neighbors would all shut their windows for the day if they saw her get to work on it.
@@jody024 my nana was a Dutch Burgher and she could make absolutely anything.
She made sambal too- even brought to Australia her gigantic mortar and pestle that was the size of a bucket and had a big heavy wooden 5ft stick she’d smash it up with. It used to live downstairs under the house and both weighed a tonne.
@@rachkate76 How cool!
@@jody024 yeah her cooking was amazing.
If she ever ate someone else’s version of a dish she’d say it’s ok but it’s not as good as mine.’
Unfortunately she was always 100% correct and nobody doubted it. 🤣
In the 80s and 90s she used to get people from down the road knock on the door asking what she was making and if they could have the recipe.
The neighbours have no idea what they missed out on.
Tried this, it was delicious, let me tell u that ur neighbours won't be happy abt the smell.
The ingredients were surprisingly easy to obtain including pandan and ikan bilis. I followed your recipe and it came out delicious. Thank you! 🙏
Yeay! Finally you make the Malaysia national dish.. it looks sooo yummy, thats why you are one of my most favourite chef! Thank you marion ❤
So Thankful to you for sharing up this video,we are glad that Australia is a multicultural country and we have so many food options to try on without visiting any particular country also
.its one of my favourite menu,i will definitely try at my home kitchen.
Just a little tip from the Sembirings' kitchen: Before the rice gets somewhat dry, move it all to a rice steamer. You'll get a much fluffier rice with this two-step method. Oh, and we usually add bayleaf alongside the lemongrass.
Happiness is watching her smile ❤️love you dear 😍😘
Thumbs up.🤗🤗🤗
However you forgot to wash clean the rice before cooking it
I literally eat nasi lemak everyday. Love it so much!!
Glad to c u showcasing a malaysian staple. Our cuisine is so underpromoted worldwide despite the fact malaysians are generally foodies.
That crispy fried anchovies is also good with plain hot rice porridge snd some fried onions with soy sauce. Good for settling down your tummy after being sick
Yessss
Malaysian here, love this recipe Marion. Thumbs up
Thanks Marion for this highlights! In Malaysia, you can find many stalls selling NS, but one thing for sure that seperate the best and the regular ones is the Sambal! We can tell your pan is just like most of our mothers (the dark color, centre) and yup, the shrimp paste add the little kick! True, pandan leave and ginger are the key, but lemongrass you add is another trick too! Again, this is fantastic recipe.. well done 👍
So delicious looking!! 💕
Thank you do much, Marion!
It was so WONDERFUL!
I fried some slices of ginger and shallots, add pandan leaves and pour in the coconut milk before putting all into the rice, This way the rice is more fragrant. Love your dry sambal, will definitely try it! Thank you 😊
I was waiting so long for this recipe !!
..... wow Marion... for me your nasi lemak and ikan bilis is today’s jackpot as it is one of my mums favorites from her childhood born in Malaysia/Indonesia. I will definitely going to make this dish for her celebration this weekend in Amsterdam as my mamsi turned 84 last Thursday 14th January 21.. 💝👍🏼🌶👩🍳😘👋🏻thanks Eileene (Netherlands )
i am malaysian. and i would say your version is MARVELLOUS! 😍😍😍😍
Beautiful recipe, thank you for sharing 😊
Terima kaseh. Looks amazing. 🥥
nasi lemak.. a veesatile comfort food.for breakfas, for lunch,for dinner,for supper!!!yummy!!!
Thanks Marion for the video. My version of home made Nasi Lemak is pandan leaves, lemongrass, fenugreek, shallot, pepper corn, ginger and a pinch of salt. You didn't wash the rice. Just put them in the rice cooker. Don't put too much coconut milk as the rice will be sticky and won't cooked.
As for sambal, I used the other type of chilli, the curly ones as they are not as hot as the ones you used. I fry the peanuts and anchovies before using the oil to cook sambal. Ayam goreng is optional because the original nasi lemak consists of coconut rice, anchovies, sambal, hard boiled egg, peanuts and a few slices of cucumber. Your version is the present version.
Kudos to you for making the Nasi Lemak, my Malaysia's national dish and favourite among Malaysians. I thank you and proud of you for this.
Thank you for cooking this Malaysia no 1 not only fav breakfast but any time of the day or night meal. Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng is my fav nasi lemak too.👍🏽
Most of us use a rice cooker to cook the nasi lemak. It's easier.
Your sambal looked delicious but is a bit dry, it was ok before you added the onions and ikan bilis.
The onions and ikan bilis are good but we at least I do, prefer our sambal to be with more gravy.
Nasi Lemak is normally served with peanuts- skin on, boiled eggs, sliced cucumber and crispy fried ikan bilis, not all go in the sambal.😀
Looks so delicious !! I wish I had that cooking device!!!
Omg Marion this recipe looks really good! Can’t wait to try it ☺️ (Malaysian here)
the ikan bilis sambal looks so delicious. looks perfect for the nasi lemak.
this is making me craving for nasi lemak now 😀
I wanted to make this today n look who posted!!
what we do is we take tuna and boil it with tiny amount of water. add in sliced galangal and 'asam keping/asam gelugur'. put alot of salt so the fish will become sour and salty. then leave it overnight. next morning only we cook the sambal. blend dried chilies, small chilies, big onions, garlic, and belacan. then we cook the blended ingredients with lots of oil. we also add in palm sugar and white sugar. lastly we put the boiled tuna and all the soup stock into the sambal. we will have spicy hot, sweet but sour sambal with fragrance of the galangal and belacan. it taste wonderful.
Wow. I was just checking out your Malaysian recipes yesterday. And noe there's another one! Yeayyy 😍
Looks SO GOOD
OMG Marion!!! Finally .... we been waiting for so long. Thank you for introducing our Malaysian Nasi Lemak.
OMG Nasi lemak! Ultimate comfort food 😍😍
I just made this - incredible sambal. Not difficult but you need to gather all ingredients. Thank you 😀
I have tried your version of sambal and I love it. Surprisingly you don't add salt in your sambal but the anchovies give the sambal that salty taste and I also reduce the tamarind paste from 1 tablespoon to 1 teaspoon. Don't want for it to be too sour.
I am going to stick to your version of sambal from now own cause I love how the fried onion and anchovies mix together with the sambal. I am a Malaysian by the way 😊.
Love your channel...
wowow~~Nasi lemak~~I never had it in Asian, but I tried here in the Netherlands. I would love to try cook it by myself later. Thank you ~~Marion
Wait what? Nasi lemak in Netherlands. Oh wow
I am from Pakistan. Now I am in Bahrain. I am buying nasi lemak here 25Ringgit.
I was in Malaysia 10 yrs.
But see your channel I hope I can make at home
one of the dishes that i don't mind eating every day!
Dinner sorted tonight! Thanks again Marion.
This looks so good! 😊😊
That looks so good!!!!
My favourite breakfast with my family, i cook my self at home especially on weekend.from malaysia
Wow yummy, thanks Marion, God bless u
I'm so so happy that you finally made nasi lemak. Thank you
My pleasure 😊
Ohh the real happiness is gonna happen soon in my kitchen 😍
Yum! Normally, a good sambal is slow cooked for hours (especially if made in big batches) to take away that spiciness and to get that sweetness out of the onion. But this looks absolutely delicious too! 🤤
The sambal looks amazing!
My wife prefers basmati rice and I find it really tasty. She also adds halba (fenugreek) and another type of lemongrass called serai wangi (citronella grass) which makes the rice so fragrant. Some stalls here steam rice (kukus) instead of cooking it in a pot/rice cooker.
Superb, Marion, and intense - your Nasi Lemak version as much as the masterclass ***** Thx
Thanks for this wonderful video. Nasi lemak, delicious fragrant coconut rice, good sambal, boiled egg, slices of cucumber, crunchy fried peanuts and dried anchovies.
Looks so good
Just amazing!!
nice choice of food I Love your recipe for your cooking.
I'm from Singapore but i love nasi lemakkkkkk... 😻😻😻😻
Wow. Delicious. Love from Malaysia
Oh my, Your nasi lemak recipie is spot on & it looks delicious. Imagine if you were to wrap it in banana leaves...... that would really elevate the taste to another level.
I think the delicious smell is comming out of my phone. Thanks Marion ❤
My pleasure 😊
do remember, whenever u use coconut milk in cooking, add in some salt.. it would enriched the taste of coconut milk
I am pilipina but i love Malaysian food taste so good i love it
I remember the elder put ginger and pandan inside the rice while cooking it...and it taste so yummy as well
Omg I miss eating this so much!
I'm a fan of all rice dishes! But wow this rice dish might become my new favorite!
Hi Marion, great dish and it is Malaysian dish, we ( Indonesians) recognise it very well and we like it too. xo
Yum, dilis! And the finger method to measure water rice ratio is so true!
Perfect. Just like how I've always had my nasi lemak.
Pandan is super easy to get in most major cities in Australia. I'm pretty sure it grows in the tropical parts of Australia. You can buy fresh leaves or frozen…
Nice. Ringan, gurih. Love it
So creative
Great job Marion! This is authentic nasi lemak.
