And while still being different, like they change things. That makes this feel like it's a different experience than watching the Anime are reading the manga While still feeling very much like what one piece is. Which is my favorite kind of adaptation or remake.

Just in case anyone doesn’t know, he was the reason that Axe Hand Morgan thought he caught Kuro.
They hypnotised a random marine, got a Kuro lookalike and hypnotised him to think he was Kuro, Morgan took him back to a marine base.
They executed the lookalike and now Morgan thinks he’s a big shot and got a promotion, hence all the statues and paintings 😂

3:30 everything was shot with custom _super_ wide angle anamorphic lenses because they wanted to be able to have the extreme closeups you get in the manga while still keeping the backgrounds in the frame instead of having to cut between wide shots and closeups. It was a bit jarring for me early on but you get used to it after a while. I think it works especially well in the action sequences since you can really see all the stuff going on in the background outside of center frame.

    - Usopp is played by Jacob Romero Gibson (also was AJ in “Greenleaf”, Josh in “Grey’s Anatomy”, & a few more) while his younger self is played by Kevin Saula. Now he doesn’t have Usopp’s iconic long nose which I don’t mind but I did find interesting is that Foxy on his bounty poster does have one
    - Kaya is played by Celeste Loots who also Adeline (Projek Dina), Daleen (Kampvuur), & a few more. I really loved how this series added a scene where she talks to Nami which I never noticed before but the 2 of them have a lot in common
    - Merry is played by Brett Williams who also is Referee Pirate (Black Sails), Raymond (The Odyssey), Mr.Olivier (Outlander), & many more
    - Klahadore aka Kuro (bounty is 16,000,000 Berries / Yen = $ 109,507.66) is played by Alexander Maniatis who also is Jarred (Projek Dina), Adrian (Arendsvlei), Dimitri (Ice), & many more
    - Sham (portrayed as female) is played by Bianca Oosthuizen who also is Bianca (Unsex Me), Nerd Girl (Resident Evil series), & Piper (Afterlife of the Party)
    - Buchi is played by Albert Pretorius who also is Reiner (Fynskrif), Vonnie (Die Spreeus), & many more
    - Banchina is played by Chante Grainger who also is young Sybil (The Watch) & Jamie-Lee (Arendsvlei), but right be fore she died the man who brought Usopp is named Mornin (Ricky Rebelo) the mayor of Syrup Village
    - Easter Eggs found in this episode are:
    - In the background of Usopp’s flashback you can see a poster informing that Victoria Cindry the actress has died on stage
    - When Usopp is talking to Mornin you can see the restaurant Meshi behind them
    - That flyer about carpenter is a reference to one of the Usopp Pirates that being Pepper who dreams of becoming one while Carrot wanted to be a tavern owner & Onion wanted to be a writer
    - Notice that in Kaya’s garden there are topiaries shaped like animals in the background one in particular is a reference to Lionbuta (pig lion) from the Island of Rare Animals (can see on the map of the ending credits) which also references Gaimon who looks like a bush, but that not the only one notice the penguins on the stairs are from Ch.17 cover & the game Treasure Cruise
    - The Straw Hats outfits are from color spreads like Nami’s 1st outfit is form the color spread of Ch.28 while her 3rd one looks like from Ch.32, & Luffy & Zoro’s 1st outfit are from Volume 11 while during dinner Luffy is wearing the one from the Red Data cover & both Zoro & Usopp are wearing the ones from Volume 7
    - Usopp tells he classic tall tale of the Giant Goldfish & he mentions a dragon = Punk Hazard
    - Garp & Koby are playing a Japanese game called Go
    - Zoro mentioned Funky Bar on Mirrorball Island which maybe not an place Kuro might go but Jango did not only in his cover story & the music video
    - In the mansion’s cellar you can see barrels with the word Diesse which is what Doflamingo drinks & wine bottles saying Ithurzburger Stein the drink from Mikhail in the North Blue that Fullbody mentions
    - At the Ending credits they added the Kumate Island which was shown during the Buggy’s Crew Adventure cover story where we saw the Buggy Pirates fight against cannibalistic tribe
    - Since this is Kaya’s birthday that means that the date is August 24th

One Piece is amazing. Now is a perfect time to watch it as SOOO much of the story is out and you can follow Filler lists and it really doesn't take that long. The only thing I did to catch up was 3-4 minutes of each episode is just rehash so I skipped it and I also skipped 10 seconds here or there during fights and certain predictable actions of characters. Luffy for instance when he is in a big fight tends to get knocked around A LOT and it spans episodes and I don't need to see him bounce around and bleed 50 times each major arc so I will skip almost 40% of some of those episodes but in 10-20 second bursts. I think I watched 900 episodes in like 3 or 4 weeks when I caught up. The story and characters and the WORLD are all amazing so it's worth it.

    Non-fan here:
I binged the entire show on friday, and I really loved it. I think the colour and the adventure-vibes is gonna hit a sweet spot for a lot of people who is not familiar with the story already, because it brings you right back to that childhood-fantasy, but still has the stakes to keep your “grown-up” mind engaged. At least that’s what it did for me.
I’m not good with animation nor comics/manga. I cannot connect to characters in the way that I can with live action and novels, but I still have a huge respect for the art of it.
I honestly love that they have made this adaptation, because it gives me a chance to experience these vibrant, fun and really moving stories, despite not being able to connect with animation.
I’m just mentioning this because I see a lot people questioning, why you would adapt something when it won’t bring anything extra to the story. Just keep in mind that the same story in different formats will always bring something to someone, as long as it’s true to the heart of the original story and characters and only changes stuff where it’s gonna make it better in that specific format.

For this 2 episode in Syrup, Usopp didn't really click with me. I was expecting someone more talkative and easygoing, instead we got someone who seems wanted so much to disappear behind the background. Until the end of Baratie then i realized, they took a slow and realistic approach for his character. Instead of overly confident and comically depiction, they go with Ussop as someone who's not confident yet. He's living in his bubble for his entire life in Syrup, he doesn't know how to react when he finally able to go out on a adventure like in all of his lies. He doesn't immediately click with the gang, instead slowly find his footing. And i do think that's make him even more relatable than his counterpart in the manga!

For a music reference, Binks’ Brew is playing the background when Shanks is sticking up Luffy

  • @yannickgervais240
    @yannickgervais240 11 месяцев назад +1

There are at least 2 music from the anime in the background. The sound brook sings a lot "Bink's Sake" that plays in the background in one's of Luffy flashback with Shanks and towards the end there is also the first animation song that also plays in the background. I do not recall where they play exactly but it is them. To remember I am gonna have to watch the entire thing again... for the third time lol

I wasn't a fan before this, but I do remember seeing One Piece on TV as a kid (but I was so young that the story went over my head). So when I saw the first teaser, I felt the nostalgia. I also love fantasy and pirates. And then I saw the promotion with the cast, and their passion and chemistry convinced me to get into the manga and the anime. And now it's the top show in the world!

  • @idajansson9926

I have not read the manga or seen the anime but I've heard of One Piece before. I don't know any of the original story, just seen very few and short clips of the anime but I wanted to say that this is really good😊 I love how funny it is and from what you guys describe it seems like they did a great job with the story/casting. Sadly since I don't have any background info I don't have anything to compare it with, but just based one this I think I would love the anime. I'm not much for reading so I would rather watch something and I do think that One Piece would be something I could enjoy.
I love seeing how enthustiatic you guys are while reacting to this! I really shows how much you love One Piece😊 I also like the tiny snippets of backstory/info you give from the original story cause for someone that hasn't watched the anime or read the manga it gives more depth and understanding of the story. Plus I usually don't really care about spoilers.

To your discussion at the end. Its very different story telling but its the One Piece Feeling and as long as they dont open up plot-problems this works for me.

I always said I'd never get into OP because it's so long and honestly found the art style not so appealing. I also rarely watch anime anymore, but I decided to give this live action a shot, bc why not. I instantly got hooked (shoutout to Jeff Ward and his portrayal of Buggy that started it all for me) and now, after a few weeks, I'm on episode 103 of the anime And have read more OP fanfiction than I can count LOL
The community is so welcoming to a newcomer like me and that's helped me get more invested in the OP universe 💕

35:00 - Counterpoint: they jumped the gun on canceling Cowboy Bebop based on the reaction from existing fans watching it day one. I can't tell you how many people I've talked to who were casual- or non-viewers of the anime who watched it in the following weeks and months, enjoyed it but admitted it had room for improvement, and were excited to see that improvement, only to be shocked to learn it had already been canceled before they even started it.

Man Ruff you asking for my favorite Straw Hat in S2? Sadly I don't think we'd get to Franky till like S3/4 cause S2 would be Loguetown => Laboon => Little Garden => Alabasta. S3 you may make it to Water 7 if my memory serves of the arcs but theyd have to super abbrev Skypia and idk if they would.

I had never wtched anything one piece before the live action. I have heard of One Piece ( I mean who hasn't) and its been on my watch list for a while, but its been far, far down my watch list and I haven't indented to watch it for at least a long while more. But, watching the live action actually has me fully invested in this world! it was really good, and it gave me an idea of why so many people love this series, whereas I didn't get it at all before. But now I've started my own watch through of the anime and I'm so excited to see more!! Like, I'm also just an anime fan in general, so even not having seen the anime or having read the manga, I am familiar with other anime live actions, and I could sense that this was different and It made me so excited for where this will go, AND IM NOT EVEN A ONE PIECE FAN!. I'm honestly so happy this was my introduction, and I am 1000% sure other people will feel the same. This better continue!! I haven't been this excited for a show since ARCANE.
