Thanks for stopping by and checking out this video, if you'd like to follow the entire "Off The Beaten Path" series, I'll be adding them all to this playlist here: ruclips.net/p/PLnZTVL7zJ55J9lBOhDTTh00Wv18JbRhjJ
There are 4 channels that I watch faithfully. I watch Earl Bennett, jimflys2, Todd the Cheap Drums Guy, and you. All of you are always right there to respond to any question I might have or explain a concept I might not have understood, and for that I am so very grateful.
So many good stories and tidbits in this video. Thanks for doing this, Mike. I would love to see you connecting with more veterans like this around our area. Maybe someone can get you into Bun E. Carlos' place... 🤔
It's cool AF he still has that chrome wrap Tama kit. I helped load it on stage in 1999 as a stage hand in Odessa, TX (Ector County Coliseum with Coal Chamber, Machine Head, Slipknot, Amen.) I remember after it was set up, Dave and myself were staring at how badazz it looked.
This was a very pleasant surprise considering the decidedly non-metal vibe of your channel. Dave was the first metal drummer I liked and is still one of my favorites for his creativity and feel. I loved -- and imitated -- his Tama kits with Machine Head with the flat rack toms. Seems like a really nice guy too.
Yeah, not really a part of my background, but I have massive appreciation specifically for the metal drummers due to the technical work it takes to execute that style of music.
I was at his house on the north east side of San Antonio to buy or sell a piece of equipment I can't remember, but he just kept talking about himself instead of what I wanted learn. He had more hair then. But he does come across nicer in this video
Never in a million years would have expected to hear someone say McLain was arrogant! Wow. He’s been a very generous, gracious guy since the SA Slayer days.
Dave is a monster, and I didn’t know you were into metal at all, Mike! I wondered what he remembered of his time in SA Slayer and with Ron Jarzombek on guitars.
Great video! Dave is a great guy and I love his work. You’re correct, is home space is totally obtainable. I’m curious to know, is his drum space ventilated and is it an isolated ac unit?
I loved this and every edition of Off the Beaten Path. Your guests are so knowledgeable and entertaining, as are you, my friend. Now, I have to wait a whole month for the next one.
Haaa! When he said Greg I thought he must be talking about Greg Crane I new him way back, and I mean way back when he worked at guitar center in west covina CA, he'd hook me up with a drum or two now and then it's interesting to here names from the past still tied in to what's going on now .
I've got good neighbors, they don't complain when I play my bass, guitar, or drums at full volume. I always only play full volume during the day, I can play my guitar and bass at low volumes at night with no problems.
Dave is my all time favortite drummer & Machine Head are one of my abso, all time favortie bands. I've had the privilege of seeing them more times than I could possibly even behin to count. Not to mention, the amazing opportunity to hang with em, ona few occasions. This was a real treat. So, I'm curious, would you consider a longer version of this? Full/unedited or even just some outtakes? Id happily pay a pretty penny for it. Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed this. 🖤🤌🏻🤘🏻
Honestly, I’d hoped to have a little more to share, but the technical issues with the mics made the decision for me. Either way, I think this tour of the space was an ok length and maybe we’ll just have to collaborate again.
@@malonedrum Oh yeah, was definitely a good length. Also, just to clarify, I absolutely wasn’t complaining. Just one of those things. No matter how long it was, I’d still want more lol. I’ll definitely be checking out your other installments. The one with Dave was very well done. Keep it up, man.

Dave is a badass on the Drums and a down to Earth Person.
Agreed!
Great video! So grateful I got to tour and get to know this dude. Awesome to see his spot!
Glad you enjoyed!

Yes! Let's talk, although that would have to be a two parter I'm sure!
VERY COOL video!!! Amazing drummer! I've seen him about 5 times with MH, twice with SR! Greetings from Holland! 👍🤘
He’s the best!
@@malonedrum..Dave Rules!! Super nice guy! He's still a better live drummer than Matt from M.H..!

Great episode Mike - Dave is a gem of a man, absolute legend and beast behind the kit!!!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing this. Dave is one of my favourite drummers. He inspired me to start playing :)
Wow! That’s awesome to hear.
Dave is from my hometown of San Antonio Tx, ive been a fan since his Juggernaut days.He is a legend in Sa along with Bobby Jarzombek.....
Great guy!

@@justme-qt3dg I have nothing but great things to say about every time I've spent time with Dave. Sorry you don't share the same sentiment.

Great video !
Thanks
Hah! Two metal bands I'm familiar with and appreciate. But... I was NOT familiar with the drummer. Thanks for sharing!
Dave is the best!
Hello there from S.A. ,TX 🎬🤓🤠🤠🤠 yeah Neil Peart of RUSH. Permanent Waves. An amazing drum collection.
🤘🏼🤘🏼

Honestly, I’m not too into metal, but I appreciate the musicians in that genre for sure, and having Dave in my town is a privilege!
Great video mike
Thanks!

I can't remember, but he may have a mini split or portable AC unit in there, but I believe there is some sort of ventilation.
Didn't know Dave relocated up here! How cool 🤩
Crazy that he ended up right in my town!

Great video! Dave is the man - the Peter Criss cymbal stand story was awesome.
The best!
What a great show. Happy that I ran across your channel. Subbed w/ all notifications.
Much appreciated!

Small world!
Greg Crane is my Uncle!
I really enjoyed this one, Mike! Thanks for more awesome content! 🤘🏻🥁
Thanks for watching!
Pretty cool collection, just like you do....
Thanks
The best drummer, I think he is a god
Yeah, crazy small world he ended up right in my neck of the woods.

Nice video. Thanks for showing us Dave’s gear and space. Next time lose the background loop. 😑
Yeah, maybe I’ll be adapting my reliance on backing tracks soon.
Surf Nicaraqua!
I bet I’m showing my metal ineptitude by not getting this reference.
