Well, it's been close to two years since i requested a notification for when they get these bodies back in stock. I got that notification yesterday. Ordered the double bound, lake placid blue Tele body. I'm really looking forward to getting started on this build.

I built 7 guitars with XGP bodies. If it doesn’t specify alder or ash, it’s definitely poplar wood. It’s a softer wood than alder but sounds almost identical. It’s definitely not as soft and light as basswood. Usually the alder and ash bodies are out of stock at GFS.

I literally let out a audible "Wow"! at the 9:45 mark, when that metallic really showed up for the first time in this video!
    Very nice color!!
The gloss and buff out of this body looks great too!
Have fun putting this baby together!
Keep us in the loop as you progress!

15:01 I've worked with lots of Alder and it's slightly more cream colored than Maple and has hints of green in the grain. The body wood on the one you have (and its light weight) lead me to believe that it's most likely basswood or some other fast-growing wood that is readily available. There's nothing wrong with these lighter woods except that they may dent more easily.
That is a beautiful guitar body and I may have to look into these if my GAS acts up again.

I noticed this video this evening after I had ordered the double bound Fiesta Red (Candy Red is out of stock, so Fiesta was my 2nd choice). Cost me around $250 with the tax, shipping and Canadian $$ exchange! Can't wait to get it so I can assemble my 1964 Telecaster...

This is what I wanted to know. I will maybe buy one and nitro finish it with some relicing and get a nice warmoth neck. I’m thinking I could make a killer guitar for around 600.

It looks well made. For years the go to color on the old totally unplayable entry level guitars were ALL in a candy apple red. Ever since I can not look at the color and not cringe. My favorite color over any color red or not is Fiesta red, lol It was the very first custom color Fender offered where there was inventory if you wanted one. All other colors were done one off after an order.
As for the wood on your guitar the sample size is hard to judge. Alder can look like it but it looks the most like basswood which tends to have a very tight grain that is not ornamental. It is why even on high end guitars if it is used it gets painted not stained.
On the other hand it could be poplar. It is the go to these days as it plentiful so can be bought cheap. Gibson tested it in the 50's and found it sounded like alder but it was very consistently good sounding where with alder you could more easily get a bad piece. They use poplar in Gibson semi's as they are plys. The top ply is maple for the look. In the early 80's when companies only published specs as features they made some opaque royal blue LP's out of poplar and as it was not a feature it was not in the specs, lol. I had a chance to have a loan of a prototype back then as I had a part time gig as a product specialists for Ibanez and the Gibson rep wanted my opinion. It was solid poplar not mahogany with a maple cap so it sound OK but different. The thing is if your Tele is poplar it will sound very, very Fenderish.

Sorry to bum you out, but that would be a mid 70's route - the lack of a the notch at the neck pocket at the upper horn.
a 62 would be more pronounce at around a half inch.

    Not happening!

Otherwise, enjoyed your video. Thank you.

If I had to guess the type of wood used for that body I would say it is probably from the batch of bodies they made from poplar. Alder is darker and they specifically print alder in the body specs when they are made from alder,

@@addictedtogear yes their products are generally very good quality. I've purchased bass pickups and pre-wired harnesses from them in the past. It seems that it's the shipping that's the killer for them as a retailer.

I have a large flake metallic purple strat body on order from these guys and their price of $99 for an alder body finished like this is fantastic but yeah here in Canada it ends up costing nearly double because their shipping cost is quite high. It’s too bad because I would buy all kinds of stuff from 😅them if shipping was more reasonable to Canada.😅

I can't believe how much they charge you for shipping it's ridiculous ! I recently ordered two guitars.335 replica and a strap replica under a hundred dollars a piece ready to play right out of the box with free shipping on both instruments ! I can't see how you don't feel like you got ripped off. Up until I heard what guitar fetish did to you I was going to buy from them everything needed to build my own guitar and now I'm scared to because it just don't feel right anymore I can see at the very most maybe 20 dollar shipping over retail price but nothing more than that . The body you purchase only weighed 4 lb 14 oz. My purchases I made Weighed triple that because each order also came with a practice amp in each package . I am sitting here looking at both invoices right now both guitars were $89 a piece plus tax. 335 replica totaled out at 93.57 and the strat totaled out at 95.68 . I've been noticing because I shop a lot online the shipping and handling costs more than the products that you are buying and that's got to raise a red flag that somebody's trying to milk the consumers. Please don't get me wrong it just don't feel right and now I was playing and not doing business with guitar fetish and now I'm disappointed because of their questionable shipping and handling practices.
