I'm surprised you 2 haven't invested in an RC (army) type tank. With a wireless camera & light mounted on a cut down section of the turret. That also has tilt & zoom. You could do your crawl space inspections from outside. Then, when you find a problem you go crawl. Maybe as your back & other joints give out, then you will. It would also be good to shuttle tools & things back & forth. My home inspector has one that he made a video copy of for me on You tube.

To help UK people here, our brick walls have small cavity open in the attic and often continuous in a terrace. Major job to mesh between rafters to seal that cavity! Is it realistic? Rats from neighbour who isn't bothered has the rest of us infested.

Hey have thought for a while to tell you but keep forgetting.
You should have an infrared termal camera to find leaks, burrows, mice and wasp nests, and more.
I have an Infiray P2 Pro and it is amazing at finding stuff.
I have found several wasp nests behind the wall and in the roof outside.
Found mice outside in tall grass.
Found a mice nest above my bathroom.
Found water leaks.
Found several air leaks and missing insulation from mice tunnels.
It is an incredible tool and only cost about 2-350usd depending on if it's on sale.
I also have the newest Flir One Pro but it sucks hard compared to the infiray 😅 always dead battery so I can't use it, slow, very bad resolution and framerate, and app doesn't work on +3year old phones... (They removes support for every update..)

Damn, I am so glad to live in Europe where we have walls made from stone and not just cardbord put together with some stukko and mud. The flimsy way you build your houses we don't even bother building sheds.No wonder any rodent can chew through the wall/ceiling/floor to enter your living space. You wouldn't have those problems if you'd stop building with cardboard and if you'd stop feeding those pests using kitchen sink shredders. But you do you and therefore you have and will continue having rats. I´m not saying let them be, they need to go. Start at home, at yourself, at the beginning. Start by using your brain thinking about where the problem emerges and stop wasting as much time and cash with false solutions. Maintain your property, keep you stuff clean and in proper shape. Check it in regular intervals and keep up repairs. Invest in good gear and materials. Cheap stuff ain't worth your hard earned money since it goes to waste. Just follow the k.i.s.s system and the 7 p's and you'll have a pest free home. Tho, if you apply k.i.s.s and the 7p's to every days life you can live a pest free life. Just my 2 cents.

It’s honestly the entire home repair industry that’s a ripoff. I’m willing to pay a fair price for a home repair but I refuse to pay $400 to replace a $5 toilet wax ring for example. Or how someone wanted to charge me $10k for a basement drainage system that wasn’t needed. Do your research when problems show up. Your wallet will thank you.
