I’ve utilized those OBD ll pins to check codes for years on my cars but I never knew about this trick and I could have used it on a quite a few occasions in the past 😅😅, good stuff!
For anyone wondering what ECUs hold what data, according to the tech manuals: - The Steering Lock ECU holds the Immobiliser Code Registration Table (aka key codes), and also an ECU Communication ID Code Registration Table - The Theft warning ECU hold the Smart Code Registration Table (for smart key functionality) - The ECM (aka the "Engine ECU") holds another ECU Communication ID Code Registration Table (corresponding value as the Steering Lock ECU). As far as I can tell, the ECU Communication ID is what both the Steering Lock ECU and ECM need to agree on to allow the car to start, and this is what the process in the video is doing. The same process (with an extra pre-step on the Toyota diagnostic tool) is used if you need to replace the Steering Lock ECU but retain the existing ECM in the car. My guess is that the 30 minute process is maybe generating a completely new ID which is written into both Steering Lock ECU and the ECM, which is why you can't hot swap back to the old ECM. Even though the documentation calls it a Table, it seems like it's not storing multiple values.
Correct, it rewrites a new ID code to both steering lock ecu and engine ecu when resetting Immo in this manner. Interestingly enough, we can turn off the immobilizer in juat the engine ecu, however.
@@CartuneNZ that's interesting, will keep that in mind as I'm thinking of getting Phoenix to map an ECU for mine, I guess then that you could get the immobiliser removed too and then they'd be hot swappable perhaps.
having trouble finding the connector with the 16 pins on my toyota highlander 2006😔if anyone knows where i could find it or if its different on my car, cant find any info on the web
Have an 01 3uz fe out of an ls430, never was able to get ecu, ignition, or pedal from seller. Can i just use a flashed immobilized ecu and switch to a dbw throttle body to test start it on the stand?? Plz help from Montana 😅
Fried ecu on an 08 gx470. I'm showing this video to my mechanic as he thinks I need a brand new ecu from a lexus dealership to the tune of 2500 dollars.
If I'm doing that same process on a 05 Lexus LS430 replacing or swapping the ECU and you have a key fob instead of a key do you still use number for number 13 and is the process still the exact same
I need a spare key for mine it has a fob i brought a key with buttons but i couldn't program it to start the car its the correct chip just cant seem to program it
Kelvin, on your outro I see the temp @ 12 C.... I'm showing 38 C (100 F) in my garage. It would be interesting to do a long-term test on that submarine ECU to see if it eventually fails.
I ran it for a couple of weeks but got sick of clearing fault codes ever few mornings, but I think that was more jdm verses usdm, and the hard shift issue was getting worse.
@@CartuneNZ Yeah, I've tried that and tried using TechStream, I get an ECU communication error. Might just be the cheap key I purchased to replace my master. Really appreciate your reply.
@@CartuneNZ thank you very much. In fact, the one I want to buy has no inmo as far as I know. I was confusing inmo and coded key but I guess it is the same. Mine (hopefully) has not a coded key because I mechanised one key (lost originals) and it starts perfect… Sorry I was confused but itt is clear for me know. Thanks a lot from Spain
Hello, I’ve got cel code 27 on sc400. The info on the code(sub o2 sensor signal) and how to fix it is scarce. I’ve come here to see if anyone could lend a hand.
My dad would also rather drive his toyota corona instead i can't believe their phobia of lexus i would choose the ls430 over anything exept my vyss cos i like the 6 spd manual but lexus going out car business car cosy car smooth like silk
Greetings from Georgia USA. Thank you for posting this video. This probably saved me thousands and made it easy to get my replacement ECU synch’d up.
i Learned a lot mate, very simple and down to earth explanations, Watching from PNG. Cheers and thanks so much.
You guys from UK are so funny, I had laughed a lot with this video and learned as well, thanks! Cheers from Cuba
I'm not from the UK, I'm from New Zealand, a little country in the southern hemisphere. Cheers Kelvin
@@CartuneNZ ohh sorry mate! Sometimes for us not English native speakers is common to confuse accents…anyway I enjoyed a lot the video
Hey I'm trying to figure out this 95 Lexus GS that is OBD1. Would this still work?
I want to say stay healthy & have a good day everyday kelvin #cheers

@@CartuneNZ 🙏🏾
Great video Kelvin, interesting how the original key/ecu combo immobiliser resets when paired with a new ecu.
Yes it is. At least this is an easy solution for swapping ecus. Im glad toyota made it this way. Cheers Kelvin
Hi Kelvin!!! Would this work if I had the smart key? My car is a 2005 ls430, thanks for your time!
It sounds like is rainando over your neck of the woods !
Will this work for a new unprogrammed key?

@ls430vip yes, immo off ecu, hot swapable, even going back to.the programed original ecu is possible hot as well.
@@CartuneNZ nice, I'd better grab a second ECU then. Thanks for all the videos 👍
Before removing the wire should I leave the key in the ignition on off . Or remove the key before pulling the wire ?

Yes, works on all of them.
@@CartuneNZ thank you. Could you tell me how to add a key Fob?
Thanks for the video, it helped 🙂

Hi. I am swapping the 3UZ in a RX8 and the IMO is killing us. Exist a way to bypass the IMO?. Thanks.
Yes, we delete the immo with a reflash. Send me ecu, its a service I provide
Can this be used to program extra keys to the ECU, or is it just initial installation?
There is a different process for manually adding keys

Nice video Kelvin. Thank you. Does it work (similar way) on an 1995 ls400? Thanks
Negative. Immo ecu on 95 if present have the same ecu so can be interchanged into immo cars. Very different systems

Hey, is taking out the ECU easy? Are they easy to damage?
As per the video they are easy to take out and pretty hard to damage. Cheers Kelvin

Have you replaced the sub oxygen sensors? ruclips.net/video/KzTtt_oBGV4/видео.html
So no need to go to dealer to get it programed?
Correct. Following this technique allows anyone to swap the ecu.
Works!
Chassis number will come same in new ecu

I might happen to have a VY commodore too, but its destined for another project. Cheers
May be Toyota made it 30 minutes to avoid stealing cars with any key by going through a 5-minute process.
