It's rare to find a dedicated mechanic these days that truly knows the profession and knows what they are doing. In a lot of ways you remind me of the late Pat Goss. Perhaps it's time for PBS to reincarnante that era through you. I really believe you should have a nationally sindicated program to promote and inspire upcoming young professionals to understand and do things the correct way.
No way! I do agree he is wonderful. In a few short years CCN will exponentially grow to 2 or 3 million subscribers, control his own content and probably make much more than any network could ever promise lol! Slow, deliberate and organic growth is much more lasting also IMHO.
As a fellow LS430 owner (2006 Custom Luxury trim, Mercury Metallic over Ecru, 20k original rust-free Southern California desert miles), I highly recommend you have the undercarriage cleaned via dry ice blasting to address surface rust and other aesthetic matters -- you won't regret it. Thanks for this excellent LS430 restoration series, and your highly informative channel. If you were on the Left Coast I wouldn't hesitate to have you care for my babied "baby". 🙂
All I ever wanted to do was be a car mechanic.. but my dad always told me I will never make money so in the end I became a dental clinician as I like to work with my hands… Im now 40 and regret it everyday.. while I enjoy what I do.. I still wish I went an did my passion which is cars… I watch your channel everyday just to escape my reality an what could have been! Thanks for all the awesome videos
This has gone from interesting to downright compelling. Like I just want to jump right into the next episode right now. It’s been a fun and fascinating series! Keep up with the good work!
Hey CCN, Beautiful job on the transmission, you are an artist! It looks like you’ll be getting a million subs long before your Lexus gets a million miles!
I am completely wowed by your work on this car. In a short time I will tell my wife that I saw (some of) a transmission replacement. I know you and Jose spent many long hours just on the transmission. Jose, thank you for helping with this. As a viewer, I truly appreciate your work and the work of your entire team at Car Care Nut.
Great vid series. Please don't 'whore' out the car just to get mileage. Enjoy it yourself knowing that it will get you wherever you want to go, in fashion and comfort, for many, many years. It's a gem of car, and once it's cleaned up, you will hopefully make this a keeper.
i agree broadly, however it would be cool to get a rental licence and use it as a loaner car if viewers drive in to get their car done. hahaha selfishly, as i expect to drive down from Toronto to get my Taco overhauled
I had the rear main oil seal done on my 2010 RAV4 around 3 years ago. Between choosing the dealership or the mechanic who referred me to the local transmission shop I opted to go with the mechanic's advice because I know my local Toyota dealership was very high traffic and I was concerned about the work quality. Still no leaks as of this posting and after watching today's episode I hope nobody never has a rear main oil seal leak problem ever. Change your oil every 8,000 KMs and don't wait until 15,000 KMs. My wife gets so annoyed having to convince the dealership to oil change but I think this is one ant hill I'd die on than to go through another oil leak again in my lifetime. Thank you for the video!
The LS 430 is literally built like a tank, i serviced many LS430's at our Lexus Dealership and it's amazing how well Toyota built these beautiful vehicles.
Our LS430 is now at 280k kms, never had any major issues apart from recent hard downshifting. It's an 04 with the 6 speed, we replaced the ECM with a used one as they are unavailable new and it was all good. The only issue is that rebuilding the ECM is not common here in Australia like it is in the US. The car is actually very frugal to run in terms of scheduled maintenance, its just parts that are hard to find.
AMD..............For the transmission bolt that will not tighten, I would insert a Heli-coil by tapping out the body for the Heli-coil, then you can use the original bolt. I love ALL your videos. If I had a vehicle that needed serious work, I would drive it to you from California.
I truly enjoy the videos you make. Your internal thoughts and then comments of your thoughts is that of a mechanical thinker and problem solver and manager. Your meticulous analysis and work is very enjoyable to watch. I completely understand your love for cars and anxiety of letting someone else drive your loved Lexus. Your are the quintessential Car Nut. Many blessing to you.
Awesome video, I feel that Jose is the only person who I trust to drive the car (since he filmed the episodes and stayed with you after midnights working on the car) and he is like you told in a previous video another car care nut :) Amd you deserve all the best.
I've watched the video twice since last night, and I'm still eager to watch it one more time. I truly can't put into words how much I'm loving this LS restoration series.
With knowledge being power, I think you are the strongest technician in the world. Very interesting and informative video on the trans repair and drive shaft installation. I bet the transmission will shift like a well-oiled clock. Thanks for the video!
Truly one of the best videos ever made......It is great to see your genuine emotion, fixing a great car and making it ready to easily pass 1,000,000 miles. Wow! Love that car!!!!! Smooth and powerful...the master of any road!!!!
I love your methodical, good humoured approach to your work and detailed explanations of what you're doing and why. When you've had enough of being a mechanic, you should go into teaching. You'd be brilliant at it. You're right about Toyota exhaust gaskets. I had a new full stainless system, including cat, made for my Camry. The gasket the shop used was aftermarket and we couldn't get rid of a very slight blow. We tried reinstalling it a couple of times and no joy. I went down the road to the Toyota dealer and got one of theirs and it was perfect straight away. If you don't feel right about letting others put the miles on it, why not use it as your daily driver for a while?
Believe it or not , I bought a Lexus ES350 after being a subscriber in your channel for a short while , how nice you explain things related to any fix .. I always drove domestic / American cars but you made me switch to Lexus 😂 .. keep it up brother
one thing that makes watching you great is that you leave in the minor errors so that if someone else wanted to do one...watching you would be a helpful way to see the job done...
I really like this restoration project on the LS430, I've been following since the project started, I can't wait to see this after the full detail finishes with Chicago Auto Pros, now...I am definitely keep my 2005 LS430. I only have 131K+ miles on it, it's my weekend car. Love your channel and thank you for making such a detail video.👍👍
Love watching your work. You do a super professional job. Thanks for sharing some of the situations you run into. It is great to see how well you deal with them. Being a DIY I am still working on patience. God Bless
Regarding the transmission pan , it better always after removed the old pan , install all bolts without the pan , for test that each bolt fits right , and do nassasery thred work if needed . I faceed same issue with my lexus LS400 .
I can honestly say that your videos are Eye Candy for me. I cannot get enough of them and love everything you are doing. I learn so much and appreciate your knowledge. God Bless you Always !!!!!
I love your channel. Keep it up. I learned many things through your videos. I'm following this project since the beginning. I'm thrilled and excited what the car would look like when is completed. Wishing you success. God bless you!
Nice job Professor !!! I would like a deep comparison between the LS 430 and the GS 430 2005-2007, I can’t find a single one in RUclips !!! Thank you for your wonderful job !!!
The dry ice blasting really makes an underside of a vehicle look like new. I highly recommended it. Also i believe this car deserves it since it's been driving over 635,000 miles.
I must say I admire your dedication to what you do, and the joy on your face when the engine started up as well as the transmission working for the first time.
The best and only Lexus/Toyota Chanel, I trust and my father. I have a 2006 Lexus is 250. And just hit 200k miles and so far the best vehicle always getting compliments. And very comfortable. Perfect first car.
* * C'mon ...you have everybody so much hope and made people that own this car feel so good...and now you come with THIS TITLE??? * * You are a VERY GOOD mechanic...working on a VERY EXCEPTIONAL car...JUST DO IT!
Holding my breath when you were tightening the last two bolts. Maybe a tip from someone (Machinist) who messed up various threads over the years, never tighten all the bolts, only just put them in and cross tighten, always very loosely. What can happen is that the holes in the pan does not line up but the bolt is able to grip the thread, then you strip a bit on the bolt, and you force that into the thread, which can destroy the soft aluminium. Aluminium needs a bit of oil which will make it less vulnerable as the bolt will slide instead of gripping. Aluminum grips and cuts very easily. Another trick is, if you feel a bolt is a bit weird when putting it in, take out another bolt and switch them around, again without tightening, bolts and threads can have small tolerances, one bolt can fit one thread but not another. I love the video, really exciting project, i like how you explain and take time to do a good job. Thank you
Bad threads on a transmission pan is very common on every automatic. I have fixed many a tranny thread with a Helo-coil insert with no issues, and the repaired threads are stronger than the original aluminum.
In the 25 years that I've been a mechanic, i can count on one hand the number of times ive said"what a stupid design toyota!". I just finished working on a bmw X3, and passed that count before i had the first motor mount out. Theres nothing like a toyota(or Lexus) to work on. Everything is logically designed and assembled. Best vehicles made no question.
I love the Lexus cars. I had the LS400 and like a dummy, i sold it to buy a Corvette. Then i scoured the used car market and found a 2005 LS430 with 39k miles. What an amazing car. It's like driving a Rolex.
Fabulous project. I know nothing about mechanics, but thoroughly enjoy following your project. Looking forward to seeing your smile when you do your final road test.
Reinstalling a transmission is a work of art. Back in the late '70s, I reinstalled an GM M22 Muncie "Rock Crusher" manual transmission with some friends. What a PITA! It finally went in, but I will never try to install a transmission again!
I love working on my own cars and always have, I believe it's a skill every man should have. And their are very few men I would trust with my toyotas, but you would be at the top of the list. Your care and attention to detail are why people are drawn to your channel. We as humans always look for people and things we can trust, and unless you're one hell of a conman. You've definitely earned my trust. Keep being who you are, and great things will follow you, my friend.

I has been In that point.... Late nigth.... Long day..... tired...... And some times work the thing and some times dont or dont finish and have yo go to bed with the worry .... So i know.... I know.... Very very happy for you.... Thanks and waitling the next video...
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! By the way, if you love the car that much, you should keep it and see it to 1 million miles. You put so much hard work into it, so witnessing the million mile mark would be very rewarding. I know what you mean when you say you love the car. I love my 2002 Lexus ES300 with 260,000 miles on it. No way I'll ever give the keys to anyone else!
@@SpiderMan-qh6vz Hey there, congrats on 240 k. Also thanks, you made me realize I accidentally said my car has 420,000 miles but it actually has 260,000 miles which is 420,000 km! I'm Canadian. Anyway, if you want your ES to run smooth like mine, here's what I do. 1) I change my oil every 3,500 kilometers no matter what. I use Amsoil Signature Series Synthetic oil 5w-30 and an OEM Toyota oil filter. 2) I change my transmission fluid once a year every spring. I use Amsoil OE transmission fluid. Never get a transmission flush done as it may screw things up with a transmission as old as ours. Do a drain and fill only and it should be fine. Also, never place the car in neutral when you're at a red light or stopped somewhere for a short while, it's bad for the transmission. Keep it in drive. But if you are stopped somewhere for a long time like a railway crossing, put it in park. Also, the same transmission fluid I use is also what I use for the steering fluid. It really helps for smooth steering and less wear and tear on the steering system. 3) It's debatable whether or not it makes a difference, but I use octane 94 fuel. It's really a personal choice. I use it due to the frigid winters up here in Toronto. The driver's manual calls for octane 91 or higher so it's up to you. 4) I change my timing belt and all related components every 120,000 km. I use the Aisin Timing Belt kit as opposed to getting the OEM parts separately at the dealership. Aisin is actually the OEM manufacturer who supplies Toyota with the same parts and stamps Toyota on it, so it's smarter to just get it from Aisin without the crazy markup from Toyota. These are the main things I do to keep this beautiful car running. It's important to have a preventative maintenance mindset and not wait for things to go wrong before replacing things. Lastly, if Amsoil is out of your budget by any chance, I would recommend either Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic 5w-30 or Castrol GTX Magnatec Full Synthetic 5w-30. To keep track of how long I've used my oil, right after an oil change I go to the far right gauge cluster and select trip B. Hold down the push pin and reset trip B to zero. When it hits 3,500 km again I go for an oil change. That's all I can think of right now! Hope you find this helpful. Cheers friend.
Fabulous series so far! Really enjoy watching the progress. I currently drive a new to me 2010 Toyota RAV4 and it's my first Toyota vehicle. I have owned it for about a year now and I can say I feel the same way you do with your LS, AMD. I have fallen in love with my RAV4 and I think it has with me. Thank you for all you do to inform owners of Toyota vehicles. Keep up the wonderful work!!!
AMD, I know what you mean when you said you LOVE that Lexus, I love my 2009 Toyota Aurion, it is always pure delight for me getting behind the wheel and enjoying a smooth quiet powerful drive with my beloved wife beside me just cruising. I am so happy that the transmission was as described low milage and silky smooth, that would have been a huge weight of your shoulders. I always look forward to the next installment of the 600,000 mile Lexus remake. As far as the steering wheel, after all the work all the money and all the pressure you have put on yourself, yes find another wheel I am sure something is out there that will be in way better condition and the wood match closer. You are striving for perfection as you are doing this out of love my friend and your devotion is shared by so many who love you and your honesty and integrity. Ty for the video it is a total pleasure to see the old girl coming back to what she deserves after so many miles of joy she has given and will give. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘💖💖💖💖

I am really enjoying these videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge awesome to watch.
My 2002 es has 240 K. Any advice for me to run like yours. I live in the northeast though.
Thanks so much
@@SpiderMan-qh6vz You're very welcome 😁
Fabulous series so far! Really enjoy watching the progress. I currently drive a new to me 2010 Toyota RAV4 and it's my first Toyota vehicle. I have owned it for about a year now and I can say I feel the same way you do with your LS, AMD. I have fallen in love with my RAV4 and I think it has with me. Thank you for all you do to inform owners of Toyota vehicles. Keep up the wonderful work!!!
It's been a great series so far. Cars are a very important tool for us and they have a way of getting under our skin, even if we think it hasn't.
Your journey on this car has been nothing short of amazing, cant wait to see what you do with the interior
The man’s a genius.
Once again, great video on a beautiful machine, AMD. Makes me proud that the drive shaft was coming from Canada 👍🇨🇦🇺🇸. Cheers my friend.
