The comment about not being viable makes my blood boil man. Not viable for what? To contribute to their coffers? Shows how detached the government is from social values in the country they are at the helm of. Top man Mark and massive respect for your contributions to our beloved scene. Please to anyone reading, do not ever vote Tory.
This is great! Thanks for asking my question about the hot air balloon. Must have been that photo that allowed the story to be published as factual over here. Can't wait for part 2 of this!
Top interview with great details of what went on for him at that period. 👍 Not gonna lie, very surprised that Mark didn't get on it back in the day. I know these interviews are proving that many artists never did indulge when you assume the majority did at least dabble but a member of Altern 8 is not one I would have guessed in any way tbf. His book is at the top of my list. Roll on part 2...
What i like about these podcasts is its all about one topic but each is so different! Thank you for the insight I've raved since 93, loved the scene but I'm still learning about it.
Live entertainment has really suffered over the last 15 years or so with licensing, competing against home entertainment (and arguably in part to the smoking ban). I really hope when social distancing is finally lifted people put down the Netflix (now that they've watched everything) and get back out there whether it's sitting in a pub watching a young singer with a guitar, going out to see local bands through to clubs, festivals, theatres and raves.
Before venues shut down streaming has played a part. Recent years musicians performing is there only source of income.. But it, oh, no that's illegal. Geeez.
Will never forget the Altern 8 tracks, some of the first electronic dance music I remember hearing & enjoying, I was still at school and my dad was a club dj in the Midlands, used to get stuck in back rooms behind stage when my dad played sets, really wanted to meet Altern 8 & my dad made this possible, I was still very young & was shit scared of the masks.
Just stumbled on this channel. How superb to hear & see one of my heroes as a kid growing up in the Rave scene. Real hard for people right now and yeah it’s totally nonsensical how things are handled. Great chat guys.
I was the same with the pill situation during the late 80’s, first few outdoor events went totally sober.. then did 1st half and that was it could never be in a field or a club again straight. Great interview guys.
My mate went to shelleys when he was 16 and couldn't get in so he sat in the car on a E , then altern 8 shows up in a truck and everyone poured out n started partying in the car park. Thats mental. Wish I was born in 70 lol wrong era
Great listen mark hits nail on head on a lot of stuff when the criminal justice bill came into play a lot of raves went underground it’s to do with what the rave scene portrayed around it relating to drugs .great favourite movie of beat street if you haven’t scene it watch it takes you back to the hip hop days with breaking and graffiti big up for this one .
@@MarkArcher was an absolute pleasure mate, and probably one of the best experiences. Done a lot of mad stuff but meeting an icon and a personal idol to me was epic.
I hope in part 2 he talks about the feud (well, actually, more so just simple bantz, than feud) between them and the prodigy around 1992, sure I heard something going on regarding music videos
Back in 1991, I bought a copy of Keith Suckling & a P.A. by Altern8 live at Amnesia House from a clothes shop in Brum. A carrier bag would come from under the counter full of copied tapes of different dj's & Raves of the time, Me & my mates searching through the bag like kids in a sweet shop, ha ha
@@boozkat4077 There was a few clothes shops up town selling copied tapes. One on New street, carnt remember the name of it & one thats called Directions now by Oasis market.
The current situation made me think of the Government vs the rave era did spring to mind. Regarding filming at gigs, well reason that is because not much gets released to buy. That's why at one point bootlegs were everywhere.. I would rather artists official release stuff.
Getting lucky is a point i think Like the Prodigy being right place right time reason these 2( n mo important) acts imo exploded Altern -8 Prodigy was they had imo the best Lines the best sounds n the best Aesthetic's
I saw altern 8 live at the eclipse in Coventry at energy night I think it was with hit man and her I’m at front in crowd on the video some were it was very hot that night so I was there to witness that p.a. I remember rightly there was a robot shooting out laser beams I’m sure
Mark archer, top bloke , don’t think prodigy were taking the Royal, brothers in rave, got an idea who it was aimed at, remember seeing you strolling in to the chill out at donington, cool as Fck
This would have been a great interview, had you not pursued the controversy angle. Man glossed over the question first time around, which was a clear indication to move on.
Mark archer is a gent and deserves a lot of praise and recognition for his contribution to this incredible era

Watch your base bins I’m telling you 🕺 use to have those green army NBC smock they used to wear back in 91.

Think I remember that shop, down to the bottom of the ramp passed mc donalds, left u turn down to the bottom in the corner?

Mark is the best!
2021 and I find out that Bizzare inc was a previous incarnation of Altern-8. oh dear!
Lots of the places I used to play in late 90s early 2000s would never of let a camera inside.
Thank you for the upload :) May I ask whatever happened to episode 25? We seem to have jumped from 24 to 26.
No we didn’t.... you must have missed Junior Tomlin.

Love to hear from Peat, as far as I know he just slipped into obscurity and lead a standard normal life. Fair play to him though.

A superb vinyl of mass destruction behind..
What about Ratty? Love to hear from that man.
So would we!
Definitely, hardly any interviews from back in the day from the old magazines with Ratty. Would love to see him on here..

I read somewhere that mark never touched a drug. I find that astonishing
You’ve obviously not watched the eps as he discusses this....
I've seen him smashed 🤣

The criminal justice bill pushed us into controlled areas. But they were great times still 👍
Not viable? What is viable? Doing flake off the kitchen island listening to Coldplay?
