My rocks are 3 years old. I have to cast a negative on their temperament. They don't play well with others. Even among their own breed. But most chickens ( speaking within a coop area) act the same. My other flock is Isa Browns. Which breed excels in egg production? Isa Browns hand down. Their drawback is that they do not last long at that rate of laying ( avg 350 eggs/year). Isa's eggs are extra large while rocks will decrease during the year do to heat and cold. Rocks molt for a rather longer period than the Isa's. The up side , as you pointed out, is the rock's meat amount. Yum! Only one broody hen in 3 years span. I placed a rooster in that coop several months ago. Still nothing happening. Good report!

Well I'm pushing 70 and I've been around Plymouth Rock most of my life I live in northern Saskatchewan where the winters are long and cold and days are short and if you keep warm Chicken Coop you'll have no problem with the eggs keeping coming they are not Broody but I have three incubators that hold 96 eggs each that's so keeping roosters with the most of the eggs are fertile and I put out a lot of babies in the spring in a short period of time

Hello, I have some barred rock chickens and they are so loud. My neighbors are getting annoyed and I’m embarrassed 😖😢 google mentioned they were for the most part, quiet.
I know that are bound to sing in the morning , middle, and end of day, but it’s to the point that they sing all day long. I let them roam free in my backyard and they are well fed. Would their excessive singing mean something else?

I think you have a very dominant rooster usually they are gentle and quiet when it causing trouble for you and your neighbors the only solution is to change your rooster or add more hens so that he will be very tired

In my experience much more docile and easy to handle than rhode island reds.

Good, informative video, looking to get chickens next spring, I am thinking barred rocks, and buff orpington, as both are dual purpose birds, just wondering if they would get along with each other?? Any information would be greatly appreciated

We have had three Barred Rocks and several other breeds together. They get along just find. Although the Barred Rocks and a Rhode Island Red are our favorite.
