Doug Oldham was born in Akron, Indiana. His dad Dale Oldham, was the minister at the Akron Church of God of which I attended for many years.

This reminds me of my growing up years. We would go down to my Aunt every Saturday night and whomever was in town would come over with their instruments and we would pass around the hymnals and sing the night away. Happy memories!

Awww y'all, this was so sweet & so fun! It makes me miss going back home when my mom & dad and all my siblings were still living. We would have the most hilarious times, usually while working in the kitchen. That's where everybody who came in would wind up - because we would be in there peeling potatoes, making bread, frying chicken, etc, and telling the stories of all kinds of things that had happened in our extended family and our church family at various places Daddy & Mother had pastored, over the years; and, of course, we would all be singing in 4-part harmony at the top of our lungs, hymns & gospel songs; because, everybody we knew, knew them; AND, they were what most of us loved the most. Those songs expressed everything meaningful to us. They enabled us to express our longings, our griefs, AND our pure JOY!!! You know what's strange, now that I'm 78&10/12ths? I often cannot remember what I had for breakfast this morning, but I can remember (and sing) the chorus and verse after verse of so many of those gospel songs and hymns, with little to no effort at all. They are still my most reliable and easiest comfort & joy. 😍 Thank you for this video, Mark and everybody there.
P.S: I got a real kick out of the sister's story about asking the man (who eventually became her husband) out so many times before he finally consented! She must have a very strong ego, plenty of self-confidence - I admire that (wish I had more of those qualities!). Tell her for me, she was just ahead of her time (and an extra-smart Woman)! 👍🏻🤗😉💋

Watching this reminds me of the stories my Mom would tell me about the "Singings" they would have at their Wedowee, Alabama home. People from the church and neighbors would come over, my uncle played the piano, my aunt played another instrument, and everyone would sing hymns and gospel songs. Mom said the more foot stomping and hand clapping there was, the louder and better they all got. Watching her speak of those memories were the only times I saw such joy and happiness on her face. I wish I could have been there to feel that Love and Christian Fellowship. We never had that here in the Arizona desert. Please keep up the tradition of sharing, Love, the Love of Jesus, and singing his praises. God Bless you All!!!

I'm 30 but haven't heard most of these old songs (I hope you sing some Hillsong or Planetshakers) but I found out about Bill's choir because of your comedy videos. Never heard of them anywhere else but I guess that's the problem with coming home all the time instead of going overseas. I've been a bit of an oddball & it always inspired me how the band loved you so much & all the people around you who enabled you to use your special gift so fully for so long, it's very encouraging.
