Thanks for watching! All the materials are listed in the video description, including where to get the Animated Eye video so you can make your own DIY Spellbook!
I use tissue paper to line wrapped gifts 🎁 and bagged ones sticking out. I thought that was the only way to do it right... now I add fairy lights too! Am I missing something? Thanks for the video! Love it. I have to make this one! And maybe more... lol!
That's a really good idea! I'm gonna have to try that. Might I suggest weathering the pages with coffee or tea to add a more realistic aged look rather than the random paint splotches. The coffee/tea will add the aged look of paper and the moisture should cause the pages to look well used. Don't know if this will actually work, just came to me as I was watching the video just now. You guys do some really neat things, been watching y'all for a while. Keep up the great work!
I ALWAYS put tissue paper in a gift box, especially with clothing. It's much more elegant than just tossing the gift in there, taping some paper on the outside and calling it done.
Wow, wow, wow! I attempted a similar idea last year, except with an animatronic eyeball, but I couldn’t get the mechanics to work. This is a great alternative! If you don’t want to use a real book, the cardboard book boxes craft stores work great. I covered mine in damask peel and stick wallpaper, fabric tape for the binding, and gold foil letters from my crafty neighbor’s cricut.
You guys! So imaginative and fun. I love the Halloween season and part of what I look forward to is y’all’s new videos (and I revisit the older ones too). Love the spell book!
Really nice job with this. This reminds me of the necronomicon from the Evil Dead series. That book had a moving mouth. You could do that with a small servo and a 3d printed mouth. It could be activated by a pressure switch that activates when you touch it. The same principle could be used to create blinking eyelids for your book of spells.
That is so cute. I'm such a sucker for books/back to school/office supply stuff and Halloween. This is the perfect blend of all of them. I wonder if scientists ever did find out why some paintings have eyes that seem to follow you wherever you go. I bet the idea behind this project could be used that way too with one of the picture frames.
The eyes will appear to follow you around the room if the subject is looking directly at the artist/viewer because paintings are 2d images. So no matter where you are you'll always see the same image, just a bit narrower if you're off to the side.
The 2-d thing is likely the case for paintings. But for a more dramatic effect one can do basically the same thing as a following bust. That is paint a concave sphere like an eye and put it behind the eyelid; where the phone is here. The angle and assumptions of depth will create the illusion the eyeball is following you.
Holy cow -- my folks still have that book, I read it a couple of times back in the 1980s! I'm half sorry to see it "rebooted" and half thrilled to see such a cool new prop!
The smallest digital picture frame that I found was 5 inch’s on Amazon I think it will work fine……this is a great idea because my initial idea was to hook up a small display to an Arduino board…which I have absolutely no idea how to do…..I just know it can be done. The digital picture frame idea is definitely easier…and smarter…thank you. Should I do anything extra to avoid it from overheating?
Your videos are fantastic. They give me all sorts of ideas --not even always Halloween related. You clearly show how to do things in a simple reproducible manner. Thanks a bunch!
Love this build.......I was introduced to "air dry" clay when my young son used it for a school project a couple of years ago and now it's one of my go to mediums to work with.
I found a neat alternative to using books. From the thrift store I got a couple of old Disney DVDs. The cases are a little damaged but that’s perfect. And once you take the DVD out it has a nice amount of space to do some things. Gonna try to see how I do on my first spooky “book” attempt
I'm going to use a lot of these techniques to design a venetian mask for an Edgar Allen Poe themed event. You guys are so inspiring with your practical crafting tutorials and build-it-as-you-fly transparency. Truely making art approachable at all skill levels.
Hi Jamie and Jay… each video you put out features something different and original, I’m in awe of your ideas and creativity! This project is very accessible for beginners too… I will admit to not having your skill level, but I definitely feel able to give this one a go. Thank you for another great project (and I love how passionate you are in supporting upscaling and recycling ❤️).
This is next level! And I'm super excited about the tissue paper effect because that stuff is super inexpensive and accessible and I could easily do something like that! I'm so excited to try it out!
Love your work! Your ideas always turn out so well. Very inspiring. It’s so much more fun to make your own decorations. Can’t wait to see your next creation!
What a nice Goodwill store you guys have, I'm jealous. The spell book turned out fantastic, the imagination on you two, impressive. My mom started a Christmas tradition of wrapping my sister's Christmas gifts from Santa in red and mine in green TISSUE PAPER. Sometimes there would be 6-7 layers of paper so we couldn't see through, good old mom. So of course we did the same with our kids, and now they are doing the same with their kids, same colors.
@@WickedMakers Hmm, that is a tough one... Well, Christmas stuff would definitely work, as would some cool fall decorations. As for the winter and spring........ hmm... Alright everyone, what would you like to see?!
That's the biggest, cleanest Goodwill in history! 😮 Most of them around me are cramped and crap is piled up on the floor. Great video! Y'all are a cute couple. Subscribed!
This was so cool to watch. Very distracting while I'm working on my witch.... Love watching you guys, love having y'all in the background while I'm creating Halloween stuff and of course love you guys. This book was awesome. It's going on my list.
Wonderfulness❣️So much fun to watch and see your whimsically spooky results. I enjoy using colored tissue paper in so many of my projects. I luv that you used it and how it added awesome texture to the entire look. That eyeball is truly an attention getter. The hardware and leather add so much detail to an authentic look. Yay❣️👍😍
You can get hard cover books at the dollar store too. I hope you do something to the inside of that book too, so the pages can be used. Need some blank pages, actual spells, some creepy artwork, plant images, cats, wands, crystals, trees, etc
I just remembered I have a tip that may be helpful. When you are gluing down the tissue mix paint into the glue. It will give you a base layer of color. Also use a color of tissue close to your base color, that way you reduce the number layers of paint. Especially if you have a color that is hard to cover.
Last year I spent a ton of time on RUclips looking for something like this but all I could find was people doing full bookbinding. Thank you for making this! Even if it was to late for my project haha
OMG THAT LOOKS SO COOL! IM TOTALLY DOING THIS TOMORROW! I have some old books from when I was in High school and this would look really good with my potion bottles that I bought on Dollar Tree last year!
Freaking awesome....I'm dressing as one of the Sanderson sisters and was looking for a book with the eye but thanks to you I know what to do now.....thank you🖤🖤🖤
Very nicely done. The only thing I would have done differently would be to use paperclay instead of the airdry as you can dry it and work with it faster.
This is awesome!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️ …but I have a question? What if I want to use my phone to tape the reactions to the book? Can you use something other than a phone for the eye effect? 🤔
