For future paper machete projects, MANY more layers of smaller pieces of paper/bag and orient them in opposite directions. One later vertical, one horizontal, one diagonal.
If you ever do this again, I'd recommend a trim of wood at the bottom and face holes and a small circle of wood at the stem. That way you can staple the rope down in addition to gluing it. Cats exert a lot of force on the ropes when they scratch on them and with just glue, I suspect he will derobe that pumpkin fairly quickly. It is a beautiful project and I hope you do this again at some point and practice with the structural integrity.
You should collaborate with Evan&Kaitlyn! They made a greensphere for Joob awhile back. I’d like to see y’all make a whole new concept. Maybe they add resin, and you add a new design!
Awesome tutorial! Thanks! For anyone trying this at home, important tip/reminder: make it a few inches bigger than you need to. In my experience, papier mache shrinks. This turned out awesome! I'm going to make mine with a furry soft pet bed inside.
I am SO surprised by how well that came out. I would never imagine that a face made of sisal rope could look anything but awful. But man, the final product looks FANTASTIC. Y'all did great work. Glad to see you back! I'm so looking forward to the coming season!
That is super cute. So glad the cat liked. If I spent all that time building that , I know my cat would not give it the time of day. You guys are so patient, putting all that rope on and the stem.
It's looks amazing! I personally would have used a flour and food grade colouring based paint/dye and cardboard/paper mache/flour as opposed to epoxy resin because it could cause toxicity if accidentally ingested or cause allergies as the cat scratches on it.
So true!!! I feel like it’s kinda irresponsible when big channels like this just “wing” a project like this intended for pets. They’re literally like babies!! My kitten eating anything loose and goes hard on his scratching posts, I doubt this will last a year with everyday kitty use :(

nice concept. paper mache needs a lot of layering though. my cosplay sword sheaths are 12 layers of paper mache (with 3 alternating orientations) with fiberglass mesh every 4 layers. and they're still wobbly as heck. a cat house of 2 layers (before resin) won't even hold the weight of a kitten. i'd have advised 30 layers at the minimum for the pumpkin
in my experience if you use flour + water as your glue you dont have to do so many layers. ive done several projects in 2 layers and its very sturdy, the only downside is that its harder to get smooth
And a thing we learned in the art subject at school: use small pieces of paper not large patches. When we made heads for some prop scarecrows we use max 3x5cm newspaper pieces and at least let them overlap by half the size. And then 10 layers or so. Super tideous but super sturdy too.
Sisal = scratching post in my house. It would be destroyed in a day. Especially with my 4 year old energetic kitty coming at it full bore. Absolutely the cutest cat house I’ve seen though.
Oh my gosh you guys are so cute. It’s so refreshing to see a couple get along and treat each other with respect ❤️ and of course your creations are always amazing! Thank you for sharing 🎃😊
After the paper mache, add paper mache clay. Inside snd put. Then apply several coats of varathane.the clay and the varathane makes it hard as a rock and also waterproof. This method also works beautifully
Stunning!!! I was skeptical about the rope at first but then I fell in love. Just more proof that I need to trust the process. Waaaay impressed. Thank you so much. I want to do this for my home. ⭐
The cat house looks amazing!!! I especially love how the stem looks. I think that a layer of plaster or lightweight clay, such as air-dry clay, on the inside will add more structural integrity to the cat house since a few layers of paper mache are still quite weak for such a large structure.
What fun video! You guys are so funny. Loved this project. I picked up one of those bamboo round patio chairs from the 70s for free. I removed the swivel bottom so I just had the top and flipped over it makes a good cage. I want to make a big lady bug kitty house with it but didn’t know how to proceed. You gave me some ideas so now I just need to get started. I just love the jack o lantern. Thanks for sharing
You should’ve glued some pieces of veneer or a few layers of canvas on the backside of the break, painting it with resin between layers. You actually still could if you still have the pumpkin. Great video though, may have to try it.
Idk if it's nicknames persay....But I have 4 cats. Each one is completely different from the last....But they have special names when I'm talking to them. Bandit: My Big Boy. Pumpkin: My pretty girl Sprite: My baby Hemi: My baby boy It's just how it ended up being....lol
this is the first video of yours I've seen and I loved it. You were fun to watch & I adore Oberon. I'm allergic to cats & sometimes forget that the hairless ones would be a good alternative. The pumpkin was magnificent.
It might be unrelated, but I stumbled upon your channel just recently and watched several videos of yours, and what I like the most from your contents is how optimistic you guys are whenever you meet obstacles while creating something. It encourages and inspires me who tends to get easily discouraged by even the smallest failure. So thank you for that :) + you've earned a new subscriber!
You could have ran the rope all the way across the bottom & that would give it a floor for inside the pumpkin. Also you could use exercise mats to cut out & reinforce the ribs for the pumpkin structure inside. I like it. I am thinking of trying to do a skull 1 for my dogs.
I love this so much! So incredibly well made and making me so excited for spooky season. Also makes me appreciate being able to just buy something at the store and not think about the hours of work that went into it
Could I make a suggestion? Combine the two steps of paper mache and resin coating into one step. Do it exactly the same only leave out the glue and use resin and leave out the paper and use fiberglass cloth. Build it up just the same way with strips and patches. Use a cheap brush to squeeze out the excess resin. Let it set up. Do two layers (maybe three.) It really is about the same but when you are through, you will have a structure the cat can play soccer with and not damage. And, you'll have a new technique that will work better for so many of your projects. Don't think too much and convince yourselves you can't,
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! Super Cool House - Lucky Kitty!!! Just a couple of Paper Mache Tips: I use some Joint Compound in my mix, I use narrower strips and I pull the excess glue off the narrower strips as I go (between my fingers) - ALL of which creates a stronger bond, which takes less time to dry (IF you don't want to have to wait as long or use as much glue). I make PM Jack o lantern. A Blow Dryer also works great on paper mache!
Aw that turned out sooo cute! Glad your kitty likes it. I once spent two days making my kitty an elaborate cat castle out of cardboard. She went in and sniffed it, then walked out and never looked at it again, lol!
I just started watching them and omg I love them and their creativity. I have a cat her name is Stella who is black and white, I myself love crafts and projects. This made me want to make a pumpkin house for my cat. Great job on this 😎
I’m so making one for my tiny Chihuahua. She’s not as curious as your lil critter, but am sure she’ll like it. Thanks for the video, it was a fun one to watch.

This must be the first time Ive seen someone make something for their cat that the cat just immediately enjoyed and used 😂
Same😂
What good humans!😊
I gotta take notes because I really want to make my cat something but I’m nervous if he’ll like it or not 😂
You should look into a channel called Evan and Kaitlyn. They’re a diy channel. They’ve built a few things for their cat.
Im so glad there's RUclipsrs out there actually giving the credit and not just taking the credit

@@WickedMakers OMG I WOULD LOVE A COLLAB BETWEEN YOU FOUR!! and the cats
I agree !
@@geralne500 unfortunately I think I remember Evan and Katelyn saying Joob doesn't like other cats 😢
I love Oberon! What a cool cat house! 🐈⬛
👊🏼😄 He’s an amazing cat.
Well I'll be damned! Two of my favorite channels congregating in one place.
@@WickedMakers he looks like a wizard cat 🐱🧙🏼♂️
he would be a bit uncomfortable so maybe add some tiny plillows and a bed sheet
Yeah so cute even if he has no fur

I sooooo need this cat house in my life!! Yes, please!! It's amazing! My only problem would be, since I have 4 cats, I'd need a pumpkin patch!!
Hahha at least two could fit in there

Thanks Steve! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼💀
this turned out better than I imagined, although it still seems a little flexible and flimsy to my eye. A great start for the 2021 Halloween season.
Thanks! 🤘🏼💀
that furbaby is gorgeous i would give anything to have one!
This could not have come at a better time!!! I'm so excited to try this!!

What a fun couple! Love the project, AND the kitty! Once I have more space, I'm gonna have to make one of these babies for MY cat!
that came out VERY nice. I would "glass" the inside for structural rigidity.
Oh man, I can imagine a whole slew of these! A ghost one would be so cute! Awesome job you guys!
Oberon.. really cool name for a cat. Very whimsical, since it's the name of the King of Fairies
Omg, we Love this. Thank you for the detailed instructions. I know we'll never be able to make something like this ourselves but maybe someday.

Hahahahaha “Ifyoudontstoppeeinginthedogsbowlimgonnapunchyou” is another one I just used yesterday 😂
those ropes inside that dyed water definetly look like some entrails that could be a next project XD
It turned out awesome! I wish I was that creative.
That is cool as cool. Cat tested. Oberon looks very pleased and amused.
Great job........you had fun doing it ....so worth it.
Fiberglass would be a good material to use for a prop like this. Easy to work with and super strong with only a few layers.
That joke with the rope and the bar is my favorite “walked into a bar” joke.
Hahaha yes

She’ll love it!!!!
It turned out so good ! I kinda want to make one for my cats now x) ! Will need to convince my husband first *lol* Thanks for sharing !
I saw that Critical Role shirt... and Oberon is adorable. Love his new house!
So I dont have a cat but this was on my fyp and I think this is super cute decor!
that's so cute and creative. I have tons of cats and dogs.
Plaster of Paris strips would be a good alternative to using resin to harden the structure, its cheaper, more accessible and you don't have to worry about the resin fumes :)
That turned out great! I might make one but for a bird and bird sized.
Awesome!!
This was a very interesting project! It’s so fun to make things from scratch, sort of inventing every step as you go! Maybe using a heavier gauge wire and making a woven wire basket type structure….and secure it inside permanently, would give it a longer life? You could even papier-mâché over that on the inside too, to cover it up. 🤓
That is phenomenal!!! I absolutely love how that turned out.
This looks AMAZING! I don't even have a cat but I want to make since it looks so NICE!
Thank you! 😄😄😄
For other people who don't wanna use resin, like me, I found that mixing terrarium calci Sand (which is awful for pets btw) mixed with glue or even acrylic paint makes a nice paste that drys rock solid.
I've used it for dioramas, custom backwalls for my tanks or just rocks to climb on for our gecko.
Oooo that'd be a really cool thing to use for terrarium backgrounds and climbing rocks, give them something with some grit so they can dig their nails in to climb for the lizards who can't climb smooth surfaces and find a use for one of the worst products marketed for lizards
SO GREAT! I love ya'lls' and I loved E&K's. I am making one out of the box my lawnmower came in covered in soft material with a pillow inside and spot for a mini desk fan on top. It's Florida, so just in case it gets too hot for kitty in the summer.
Thank you! 😄😄😄
This is very cool! A bit too much work for my taste but I would pay for that!
I don't know if this would work or not but there is expansion foam but I am thinking a layer of foam that does not expand to give it a good shell.
Love it, I think I’m going to make it to, will use more epoxy so it will be stronger. You guys are great.
