- It is time to return to the Far Territory. It's a long journey, but I know some shortcuts. Thing is, we need an aurora, so might as well camp out in Transfer Pass.

I quite like the fact that there are parts of the world you can see but not access. It makes it feel like you're actually part of the world, unlike earlier regions like Mystery Lake which are just boxed in by a square rock wall and feel fairly artificial as a result.

I had to look up the word “Aerie”. Quite fitting. I’ve actually had to look up several words from this game. Forlorn is one of them. And Muskeg lol. I love that kind of stuff.
1:19:10 The term you are looking for is "rabbit starvation", which can cause protein poisoning. Rabbits while a source of protein have very little fat compared the the protein in the meat of other animals. It's the fat in meat that gives it caloric content, except in rabbit meat where it comes from amino acids, which is not sustainable for humans.
I believe I said rabbit starvation, but couldnt remember the fat issue that was the key component to it :) Thank you!
All meat has protein which is composed of amino acids. There's nothing unique about rabbit in this regard; it's just a very lean meat. Humans need to consume amino acids, but if too much of the energy in one's diet comes from protein, health problems occur. Any diet composed of only lean meat risks protein poisoning. Another term for protein poisoning is "mal de caribou" because venison also has insufficient fat by itself. These days, I usually go from Transfer Pass to Forsaken Airfield via Zone of Contamination to avoid the long, cold journey on the road.
Thankfully you can also mountain goat down from the highway and come out pretty close to the main hangar.
I use the tree at the entrance to the airfield and run on the left wall to "jump" the 2nd gap above the normal route. I can't explain it better. He mentioned this route the first time through so I tried it out, not too hard. I did get stuck in the gap the first try and had to exit and retry.
@@emrwtf Yeah, I made it that way once. I think the map might have changed because several subsequent tries failed to get up slope beyond the jump. I decided it wasn't worth falling to my death.
@@equestrianrosie Yeah, I was aware of that possibility but haven't tried it. I should do so in a test run before trying it with my over-700 day character.

Sorry to be "Mr. Know-it-all" but J to open the journal does indeed close the journal again BUT.. once you start Signal Void it doesn't open the journal page anymore but the quest page. If you navigate to the journal where you jot your notes then J will close that menu. Completely useless information and it's a huge bugbear of mine too. I've completed both Tales now and the screen gets in the way of me making notes. Loving the series as always Zak!
This drives me nuts. I want to see my journal when I hit "J" and how often do we actually access the quest page anyway?

I'm sick myself now. I think you infected me, must be a computer virus :D I watched almost the entire Start to Hunting video, four hours and 45 min last night, and several hours this morning because I couldn't sleep (played about an hour of it twice, because I wasn't paying attention).

Just fyi zak, when you go to Blackrock, you can pretty easily go backwards up the one-way spot that you would take when returning to the prison.
I don't mind waiting for the updates until they (Hinterland) feel it's ready. I love the game as it is and updates are just frosting. I have an internal chuckle imagining your channel after the Base modification drops. I imagine you going from base to base doing spring cleaning and "tidying" the places up. :)
With regards to the cold, that three week cold will disappear for a week then reappear. On and off for the next two years.

Only one data point but I accidentally got spoiled for the location of the last bunker. I had never been there before and decided to check the area out during the daytime while I waited for an aurora. While I was up there, a glimmer fog came up and I got the signal for the bunker, so I was able to find it right away without going back to the entrance.
I think J pushes up the journal before you start the tales and probably has the same behavoir as the other buttons, and once the tales are started a new page is accesible linked to the J button. it should be a different button.

Why are there no beavers in the game? Thanks for taking me along on your travels through the Long Dark.
Beavers are still not as common as they once were. They were almost wiped out in the 19th century. The in-game location is a place called Great Bear Island. Though in a wilderness area, there has been heavy industry, several villages, and a prison complex on the island. So presumably the beavers have not made a come-back here.
Nice little base you got there in a few days.
Not sure you could survive forever, the spawn rate of rabbit looks very low in my run, even when using snares, I catch maybe up to 4 rabbits and then noting for weeks.
On another topic, I have an issue in my game where the bow doesn't always shoot, I click and hold but the fatigue meter doesn't go down and when I release, it doesn't shoot and just cancel the action, it's very problematic against wolves. If anyone knows what's going on, I would be grateful.
The same happens to me. Also, it sometimes doesn't want to draw, where I will try to draw it and it just won't. I'll try and Google a bit and let you know
Ok so, they just talk about stuff like crouching, but the info they give has nothing to do with glitches. I have the same problem, maybe it's a glitch in the system
Maybe next time, I should ask the question while I'm thinking about it, instead of waiting til the end when I can't remember what it was! 🤔

I want to ask, have you ever played Kingdom Come Deliverence? RPG game set in Bohemia in the year 1403 of our lord. It is quite a bit different from TLD, but it actually offers quite a nice survival experience if you play it in "hardcore" mode.
If you want to know more from someone that has played it religiously, please tell me. (just so I don't write on and on about it, for no reason).
My boyfriend loves that game! I love watching him play it, it's a very good game

@@Zaknafein The story is good, but what I think you will really enjoy is the free roaming, which is unlocked as soon as the "tutorial" is done. With "hardcore" you will need to really manage things like hunger or sleep. You won't get to fast travel, food you find and medicine (potions) heals you less. And there is no compass directions, so when you use the map, you will have to navigate from the map and what you see.
I enjoy taking some rations with me, going into the forest and spend a day or two poaching deer. It is relaxing, and looks amazing.
I highly recommend you take a look at it. Especially as the game with all DLC's are on sale until the 25th for 8 euro.
@@MadivDam You should give it a try yourself. I bought a copy for my parents, and surprisingly my mother really likes to hunt in the game. And she is not a big gamer.

At 48:00 - either we get Episode 5 or they release more details about the new game that they're working (heavily, supposedly) on. As for the time between patches, I'm kind of iffy between that. I don't need "new content" patches, but bug fix and optimization patches, imo, should be a monthly thing. Of course, this game really doesn't need any more optimization and barely any balancing updates, but sometimes I encounter some stupid bug and knowing that I have to wait a few months for the patch for it can get annoying.
They said earlier that Ep5 is late 2024 at the earliest, so I dont think its that... yet

The base chance for all weather is exactly the same for all regions. This doesnt mean something else doesnt change that chance, it just means the regions themselves arent different at their base

@Zaknafein Hello, I have a question since you have so many hours in The Long Dark.
When you create a new world the condition of the items is random, but clothes, for example, degrade over time even if you don't interact with them.
Items that degrade over time and are in a locker, if you don't interact with them, can you still find them after, say 1k-2k days, even if they are ruined? Or they disappear once the condition reaches zero, just like ruined items that are put in a closet.
Ruined items, as far as I know if you haven't interacted with them, stay there, till you then interact with them. Not sure but I think so.
I have found ruined clothes in lockers and so on and harvested it, but as you know you can't put ruined clothes into a container yourself.

@@MadivDamyou can put ruined clothes in lockers. It’s the only ruined item wich doesn’t disappear, because it’s basically cloth.

Yes but the cave is warmer and you can cure stuff there
Cave is warm as the depot, but avoids cabin fever. In a long term, a cave have more benefits than the depot
@@Zaknafein You can cure stuff in the depot as well. But yeah, I noticed while playing yesterday that the cave is warmer. And as @AmplifyChris pointed out, the cave also avoids cabin fever.
