For anyone who can't get into their MS Dashboard try reinstalling it through the Extras Disc and you can launch it through Applications. I had to do this cause my MS Dash was corrupted.
Thank you for clarifying on this, I was able to install stock dashboard and it did show in the Applications folder as you mentioned, though when I went to test the connection, was not able to connect to the servers. *EDIT* I restarted the console and booted back into MS Dash and re ran the test and it worked!
I'm trying your suggestion and i'm getting the message, "I'm about to clean up the C drive." Thats when I stopped. I'm afraid it will change the dashboard to 5960 and not keep XBMC Origins. Just making sure before I screw something up.
Yeah. Even if you don't plan on doing Insignia, the official dashboard still feels better for navigating saves and such. I needed to use it to transfer an XBL account for the delisted DLC for Ninja Gaiden. Totally worth it! It'd be awesome if this got on Insignia
This is a dream come true, when I first heard insignia was bring back the original xbox live services I immediately kept an eye on his Twitter as well as his other websites, so thank for showing a walkthough on this, I really appreciate it 👍🏻
I'm generally very frustrated by the state of the gaming industry. Over promised and under delivered half baked releases, the loot boxes, micro transactions, FOMO based season pass / reward systems that feel more like manipulation than anything else, I could go on.. Fan made projects like these have really helped get me back into this hobby. I got a bunch of cheap 360s and hacked them and gave them to my friends, we play COD and Halo 3 on LiNK on a weekly basis, it's a ton of fun reliving the glory days and staying in touch with everyone from back home. I'm super excited for Insignia, and appreciate you for putting the spotlight on these projects and explaining the setup in a super straightforward and easy to understand way. Really hoping this has a long lasting and healthy community. All I need now is a nice CRT TV and I'm ready to relive the 2000s. Cheers!

Great video as usual! Alot of people are having issues on what to do if you have nulled your hdd key, a key with all 0's is valid according to the xbox but isn't valid for xbox live, if you have this issue, on a softmod get configmagic 1.6.1, use it to unlock the drive, edit the hdd key to all 1's, update the eeprom then lock the drive again, on a hard mod do the same but your hdd minght not be locked as its not required for most hard mods. *using config magic can cause your console to become bricked if you mess with things you dont understand do so at your own risk*

For those wanting to "un-null" their HDD key for this process: Install ConfigMagic from Rocky5's Softmodding Tool Extras Disc (If you haven't already) Launch ConfigMagic Unlock HDD (If it isnt already) Choose "Edit EEPROM" Select the HDD Key, and then delete all of the 0s Add in all 1s (there are 32 of them) Then select "update EEPROM" Lock the drive Then be sure to reboot the system This allowed me to register my console!
Thx for the great tutorial! That helped me for setting up Insignia. Though nearly 10k users registered, no one is online :( bit of a pity. I hope Xbox 360 gets similar stuff :) It is indeed important to use static IP address. Small hint: be aware that other dashboards might have other settings or still DHCP in their settings!

Playing the first Xbox games online is the best game fun we all can have.. I believe that it was an era that if the online gaming already was high advanced at the time we would enjoyed it wayyy longer
Definitely a magical time in gaming, although at that time I remember reading the original Xbox was succeeded quite quickly due to the costs and losses of the console. I believe the console itself was only profitable for a single month of its lifespan? Generations were also shorter back then, but unfortunately Microsoft was trying to quickly drop the original Xbox to make room for the successor.

Use Rocky5 softmod if you're on a softmodded console, or use a BIOS that isn't blocking Xbox Live if you have a hardmodded system (EvoX M8+ recommended here). Also worth running the troubleshooter on the registration tool.
@@MrMario2011 I figured out what was wrong. I reached out to Insignia and told them that I had just null'd my HDD after setting up insignia. THAT is what broke my connection to xbox live. Anybody who decides to register their console before changing their Hard drive key. DON'T DO IT. Now I'm stuck without access.

Omg i woke up earlier than usual this morning made my wife and daughter breakfast and then went to work on my insignia Xbox live issues, I figured it out! With the help of discord, I am now able to play online! Woohoo! 👍🏼
Did all the steps. But it’s not able to connect to Xbox live. I’m on an evox hardmodded xbox. When I try to connect. I can see cables, ip address and dns all passing. But says Xbox live not found. Anyone knows how to resolve this ? 😅
I have an issue when I try to register my console, it says “Failed to connect to the server”. Then I troubleshoot it, then it says “Could not resolve DNS query. Please make sure your network settings are connect and your Xbox is connected to the internet.” Which it is connected, on static, and I have changed the 1st DNS to the one provided from the Insignia Website. Then I try to clear Ticket Cache. And still the same issues? Am I doing something wrong?
What do I do if it says it refuses it?. My Xbox I running rocky5 v 1.1.9 I did the ip sunset default and dns all properly. I even tried my last saved ftp?. Sorry

Just tried getting Insignia up an running on my xbox but i ran into the issue of not having the original xbox dash and i tried to download files that said they were but they were just the blue soft modded one ?? any help very much appreciated.
Hey Mr.Mario when i was trying to install insignia on my 1.6 xbox i FTped the setup xbe in my applications and when i launch it it does not work and it just soft reboots to the dashboard. I tried using the save game exploit but no luck there either. I feel like something is corrupting it but i have no clue of what could it be. Any thoughts? Cheers.
Hey so I have a soft modded xbox with Rocky5, I did everything right, got the console registered but I noticed when i went back to original dash I dont have the xbox live tab and when i go to settings there is no network tab... idk whats going on lol im confused
Change your main Dashboard to XBMC. Apparently other Dashes like UnleashX and EvoX reset your network everytime they boot and mess up your Settings. Make sure to set your Network settings to (Dashboard) in XBMC.
Also what if we are able to connect our xboxes wirelessly via the mn-740 microsoft broadband xbox wireless adapter..what would the network settings be then?
MrMario2011 8 hours ago The nulling tool that Rocky5 has was updated a while ago, these days it will null the key to all 1s, which is fine for Insignia.
Every console you want to use with Insignia must be registered. Transferring accounts should work the same as the original service to my understanding.
Sadly, Insignia noticed that i have a BIOS that block XBL so i cant connect to XBL :/ my xbox has a modchip outside the xbox named X-Bit with a bios named Xecuter2 (instead of Microsoft during boot). Its 20 years old or so, my dad got it modded back then, Anyway, How do i get insignia to work? I dont feel like to flash my xbox and potential brick it after all these years hehe. Tho, there is a tool named xblunblock that may fix this, but i have no idea how to install that. And one more thing that is off topic. How did you make your UnleashX dash look so clean with all those shortcuts and renamed tabs?? Im using the stock unleashx from rocky5 disc with the stock tabs. Im a noob when it comes to this, i just recently started to go deeper into the modding scene and im trying to clean up and update my 20 year old childhood console :)

Hey mr Mario, everytime I get to the network settings part I click on network settings and it sends me all the way back to the XBMC4Gamers Dash. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I have a custom bios called “Xecuter Xrox my Box” (Atleast I think that’s the logo lol) Any help would be appreciated. I’m so close to getting connected but can’t figure out why it keeps kicking me off the original dashboard. Update: I’ve just gone into the extras disc and deleted and reinstalled the original dashboard. Now it will not even load into the original dashboard, it just instantly crashes and restarts XBMC. Pls help Last update: I went into my files and went to the C folder and deleted the dashboard and made enough space to be able to reinstall. Instead of using the “extras” disc again I went to the “downloader” and installed the Xbox dashboard from there.

Hello, i've been following your guide and I've been trying to get my xbox registered on insignia but it fails the connect proccess. Everything else works except the DNS server. it keeps saying failed to resolve DNS query. My xbox is connected to my PC and it is connected through Wi fi. I've been stuck on this for two hours. any advice?
still waiting on my invite code so i cant wait for the service to go live mine is stock btw the process is the same as softmodding a xbox, except you only need the insignia modded save (mechassault is the easiest by far) instead of the rocky5 files

Mr Mario thank you for this guide I’m up and running. Quick question can you play games off your hard drive online or do you have to have the original game on disc to play it online. I have crimson sky on my hd and when I go to sign in to Xbox live it can’t. But I have mech assault on disc and I can get on Xbox live with it

i registered the xbox using the insignia setup disc, said it was successful. My MS dashboard said IP conflict. And now neither will do anything but "fail to connect to network" I'm at a loss how is this going to work if it takes hours to get to a dead end. (my other xbox has a nulled HDD)
I would like to keep my modchip running Ind BIOS if possible. Is there a modified version of Ind BIOS or a line I can add to the config file to unblock the XBL connections? I came across a modified file, but it says something about the RAM being modified as well, so I'm hesitant to try it for fear of preventing my console from being able to boot should it not work for my system.
I believe on the Connect instructions there's a link to an application you'll have to run every time you want to connect to Insignia, if you're on a custom BIOS which has Xbox Live blocking features. Aside from that, my personal recommendations would be to flash EvoX to another bank if you can dual-boot on your chip, or reflash to EvoX on the main bank if you really want easier access.
@@MrMario2011 Thank you for the reply. The 'unblock' app didn't play nice with my console. It would lock up after one of the checks it does. I have a version of Ind BIOS flashed that isn't blocking XBL now, so I'm ready to test as and when I get my Insignia invite. I would have changed to another BIOS if needed, but I've gotten used to Ind BIOS and have spent a long time tuning the config file for my console.

Tried in both static with the insignia and cloud fare dns in both xbmc4gamers and ms dashboard, as well as automatic in both dadhboards. It still says "failed to connect to server", when trying to register the xbox in insignia setup.

hey MrMario2011 ive been looking forward to this for a cpl years now. Now that its finally here Iv'e been trying to get my main console ready for it. And i was able to connect via og xbox dashboard and even registered my console via Insignia setup, however, when i press the troubleshoot button it tells me that my Bios blocks xbox live. now i already have a cpl of gamertags one of which wont work anymore. i think it's bc of Insignias servers. I did try PhantasyStar Online and Conkers Live And Reloaded. both games said console cant connect to xbox live. so my question to you is:are we just not allowed to play online until we register a gamertag or is it my Ind Bios or unleashX dashboard? Also im pretty sure all settings in og xbox dash and UnleashX dash are correct.
Old Gamertags won't work, new ones have to be registered and made specifically for Insignia. IND-BIOS blocks Xbox Live. Account registrations have not gone out yet.

Also I am able to connect using insignia server but when I hit the troubleshoot button on insignia setup app it still says that my bios blocks Xbox live. So I’m just wondering am I good bc I can connect to Xbox live or am I not good bc of that message I got on insignia setup?
So i'll need to connect my Xbox to my router via Ethernet for setting up and connecting to Insignia correct? Connecting the ethernet to my PC is mainly for FTP stuff am i right? Cheers.
Bit of the opposite? You can access the internet and FTP if you hook it up to your router, so that's easier. I'd only share my connection to my console with a PC if there's not another way to connect.
@@MrMario2011 Spot on cheers. Found out my XBMC Origins Console doesn't wanna turn on anymore after my Insignia invite lol. Just powers up the Green LED briefly, clock capacitor's been removed so don't know what's up with it. So looking at taking my Asian Blue Xbox out the box to Softmod lol.

The nulling tool that Rocky5 has was updated a while ago, these days it will null the key to all 1s, which is fine for Insignia.

on unleash I went into misc, ftp settings and reset network. My Ip corrected in the network settings menu.
Omg i woke up earlier than usual this morning made my wife and daughter breakfast and then went to work on my insignia Xbox live issues, I figured it out! With the help of discord, I am now able to play online! Woohoo! 👍🏼
Did all the steps. But it’s not able to connect to Xbox live. I’m on an evox hardmodded xbox. When I try to connect. I can see cables, ip address and dns all passing. But says Xbox live not found. Anyone knows how to resolve this ? 😅

I registered my Xbox and I have three green lights but it won’t connect to live all the way….
I have an issue when I try to register my console, it says “Failed to connect to the server”. Then I troubleshoot it, then it says “Could not resolve DNS query. Please make sure your network settings are connect and your Xbox is connected to the internet.” Which it is connected, on static, and I have changed the 1st DNS to the one provided from the Insignia Website. Then I try to clear Ticket Cache. And still the same issues? Am I doing something wrong?
You might have to also set a secondary DNS to something like 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8

You might have to retry and re-run the save.
i have a bit of a weird problem that i get if you can't help with, my original xbox is hardmodded with xecuter2 and the disc drive doesn't work. is there any way i can get insignia working on it?

Just tried getting Insignia up an running on my xbox but i ran into the issue of not having the original xbox dash and i tried to download files that said they were but they were just the blue soft modded one ?? any help very much appreciated.

Hey Mr.Mario when i was trying to install insignia on my 1.6 xbox i FTped the setup xbe in my applications and when i launch it it does not work and it just soft reboots to the dashboard. I tried using the save game exploit but no luck there either. I feel like something is corrupting it but i have no clue of what could it be. Any thoughts?

Hey so I have a soft modded xbox with Rocky5, I did everything right, got the console registered but I noticed when i went back to original dash I dont have the xbox live tab and when i go to settings there is no network tab... idk whats going on lol im confused

My xbox gave me error 7 after hitting the exit setup assistant. Restarted and it seems to be working now, gave me a real scare.

I tried changing my IP but it keeps reverting back it's it's default values when I save.
Change your main Dashboard to XBMC. Apparently other Dashes like UnleashX and EvoX reset your network everytime they boot and mess up your Settings. Make sure to set your Network settings to (Dashboard) in XBMC.

Set it all up properly for your connection, but use a custom DNS when prompted.

The nulling tool that Rocky5 has was updated a while ago, these days it will null the key to all 1s, which is fine for Insignia.

What if you have more than one xbox? Can you use just 1 account?
Every console you want to use with Insignia must be registered. Transferring accounts should work the same as the original service to my understanding.
Sadly, Insignia noticed that i have a BIOS that block XBL so i cant connect to XBL :/
my xbox has a modchip outside the xbox named X-Bit with a bios named Xecuter2 (instead of Microsoft during boot). Its 20 years old or so, my dad got it modded back then, Anyway, How do i get insignia to work? I dont feel like to flash my xbox and potential brick it after all these years hehe.
Tho, there is a tool named xblunblock that may fix this, but i have no idea how to install that.
And one more thing that is off topic. How did you make your UnleashX dash look so clean with all those shortcuts and renamed tabs?? Im using the stock unleashx from rocky5 disc with the stock tabs.

Last update: I went into my files and went to the C folder and deleted the dashboard and made enough space to be able to reinstall.
Instead of using the “extras” disc again I went to the “downloader” and installed the Xbox dashboard from there.
Xecuter BIOS blocks Xbox Live. EvoX M8+ is what's recommended as it doesn't block.

Hello, i've been following your guide and I've been trying to get my xbox registered on insignia but it fails the connect proccess. Everything else works except the DNS server. it keeps saying failed to resolve DNS query. My xbox is connected to my PC and it is connected through Wi fi. I've been stuck on this for two hours. any advice?

the process is the same as softmodding a xbox, except you only need the insignia modded save (mechassault is the easiest by far) instead of the rocky5 files

Do you need physical discs or can they be stored on the hard drive for insignia live to work? Also, how do you install the ms dashboard as a application, I don't want to remove XBMC Origins as the default dashboard.
Both, and you can use something like the Extras Disc from Xbox Softmodding Tool to easily install it.

When I run insignia set up and choose register Xbox, it “failed to connect to the server” then I go to troubleshoot and I get “could not resolve dns query, make sure setting are correct and your Xbox is connected to the internet.”
My modded Xbox is connected to the internet so that’s weird, maybe it’s my ind-bios, i have UnleashX and Evolution X and xbmc as my dashboards, it prompts to unleash x every time I boot it up. So I read that I have to flash a different bios, that kinda sucks, I like what I have and don’t want to mess up my 2tb hard drive, any suggestions? Thanks for you time and your informative videos.

If you're doing so in a custom Dashboard, save changes then restart console. See if that sticks, or try to reapply after reboot.

Mr Mario thank you for this guide I’m up and running. Quick question can you play games off your hard drive online or do you have to have the original game on disc to play it online. I have crimson sky on my hd and when I go to sign in to Xbox live it can’t. But I have mech assault on disc and I can get on Xbox live with it
You can, although that can happen with a bad rip or a game with ACL processing applied to it.
Any suggestions if I'm running IPv6 and don't have a compatible default gateway?

Open Network and Internet
Open Network and Sharing Center
Click Change Adapter Settings
Right-click your connection and select Properties
Uncheck the box next to Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
i registered the xbox using the insignia setup disc, said it was successful. My MS dashboard said IP conflict. And now neither will do anything but "fail to connect to network" I'm at a loss how is this going to work if it takes hours to get to a dead end. (my other xbox has a nulled HDD)

You can use something such as the Xbox Softmodding Tools Extras Disc to install it back over.

there's an awesome video on his page on how to put rocky5 on your xbox and then in the video he goes over the extras disc... if i'm not mistaken.

You would have to re-register by contacting them on Discord and asking to have your console removed.

I would like to keep my modchip running Ind BIOS if possible.
Is there a modified version of Ind BIOS or a line I can add to the config file to unblock the XBL connections?
I came across a modified file, but it says something about the RAM being modified as well, so I'm hesitant to try it for fear of preventing my console from being able to boot should it not work for my system.
I believe on the Connect instructions there's a link to an application you'll have to run every time you want to connect to Insignia, if you're on a custom BIOS which has Xbox Live blocking features.
Aside from that, my personal recommendations would be to flash EvoX to another bank if you can dual-boot on your chip, or reflash to EvoX on the main bank if you really want easier access.

The 'unblock' app didn't play nice with my console.
It would lock up after one of the checks it does.
I have a version of Ind BIOS flashed that isn't blocking XBL now, so I'm ready to test as and when I get my Insignia invite.
I would have changed to another BIOS if needed, but I've gotten used to Ind BIOS and have spent a long time tuning the config file for my console.

PAL and NTSC games are fine. I play all my games from the HDD just fine, it sounds like you have bad dumps.
What do I do if I used the new insignia setup file and still cant get past the "invalid serial number" error?
Use the Troubleshoot option, I believe it should fix that now.
@@MrMario2011 did that and sought help within the insignia discord. Came to the conclusion that virtual eeprom was enabled and was messing with the registration process

Okay thanks. One more question. I keep trying to register insignia on my modded xbox and it fails everytime. It says the network gateway could not be reached. My xbox is connected to my pc via a lan cable which is connected to wi fi.
What am i doing wrong here?

Tried in both static with the insignia and cloud fare dns in both xbmc4gamers and ms dashboard, as well as automatic in both dadhboards. It still says "failed to connect to server", when trying to register the xbox in insignia setup.

hey MrMario2011 ive been looking forward to this for a cpl years now. Now that its finally here Iv'e been trying to get my main console ready for it. And i was able to connect via og xbox dashboard and even registered my console via Insignia setup, however, when i press the troubleshoot button it tells me that my Bios blocks xbox live. now i already have a cpl of gamertags one of which wont work anymore. i think it's bc of Insignias servers. I did try PhantasyStar Online and Conkers Live And Reloaded. both games said console cant connect to xbox live. so my question to you is:are we just not allowed to play online until we register a gamertag or is it my Ind Bios or unleashX dashboard? Also im pretty sure all settings in og xbox dash and UnleashX dash are correct.
Old Gamertags won't work, new ones have to be registered and made specifically for Insignia. IND-BIOS blocks Xbox Live. Account registrations have not gone out yet.

Also I am able to connect using insignia server but when I hit the troubleshoot button on insignia setup app it still says that my bios blocks Xbox live. So I’m just wondering am I good bc I can connect to Xbox live or am I not good bc of that message I got on insignia setup?

So i'll need to connect my Xbox to my router via Ethernet for setting up and connecting to Insignia correct? Connecting the ethernet to my PC is mainly for FTP stuff am i right? Cheers.
Bit of the opposite? You can access the internet and FTP if you hook it up to your router, so that's easier. I'd only share my connection to my console with a PC if there's not another way to connect.
@@MrMario2011 Spot on cheers. Found out my XBMC Origins Console doesn't wanna turn on anymore after my Insignia invite lol. Just powers up the Green LED briefly, clock capacitor's been removed so don't know what's up with it. So looking at taking my Asian Blue Xbox out the box to Softmod lol.

This is different. xLink Kai is a LAN tunneling service, this is a rebuild of the Xbox Live service.

The focus at the moment isn't on Xbox 360, and definitely never for Xbox One/Series as those games had their Live services entirely disabled.
