At minute marker 1:56 there about I saw the beginnings of a major accident. A truck pulling a heavy load slammed on his brakes and headed for the ditch to avoid taking out the car in front of him.
You are a pleasant get away from this crazy world. Thank you so much! And God be with you always
We finally got to go here and it was the 4th of July...CLOSED! SO thankful we got to see it with you Russ!
When I was a child, Ken Curtis came to our Rodeo in Texas. He came out in his best "Festus" voice and after a few minutes he began to sing. You could have heard a pin drop. He had a beautiful voice
What a beautiful video and what a magnificent Capitol and war memorial!! Just beautiful. Thank you!!
Thank you for visiting our South Dakota Capitol. I am a subscriber of your RUclips and a South Dakota resident of Sioux Falls. I used to live in Pierre. My favorite RUclips video is your visit in Wyoming.
long time ago driving to Winnipeg, from Chicago---stayed at a old hotel in he middle of nowhere
He, Hey, It's RVerTV Russ, Thanks Ready for the Ride.YEA👍
Awesome! When I visited my 93-year-old grandpa in Texas, we watched a lot of Gunsmoke together. I'm definitely going there next time I'm in South Dakota.
Keep your hands and feet inside the ride at all times! Thanks for the tour, Russ. 😊
Thank you so much for this it really brings back memories. I first moved for the US and Ft Pierre in '89. You drove past my old house and old 2nd grade school. The road where I got jumped by 3rd graders lol. We used to run wild all around the old downtown there, it was historic then. Would jump on the trains as they slowly ran though town and got in all kinds of trouble. Just had to be home when the street lights came on. Only lived there a couple years but I got a good solid grounding and taste of what America was all about.
I've been watching you all day! Thanks for showing me all the places and things I can't see on my own! I'm usually stuck here since my stroke and your videos make it so much better!
You are so welcome!
Cool Russ! You take us the best field trips! 🎉
that state capital is so beautiful, thanks for sharing and whole vidieo is wonderful
1:43:08 From my Minuteman days in the 80s, there were 150 missiles at Ellsworth AFB near Rapid City before they were deactivated.
Other bases were at Minot AFB in ND (150 missiles, still active)
Grand Forks AFB near the ND/MN state line (150 missiles deactivated)
Malmstrom AFB in Montana (100 missiles, still active)
F. E. Warren AFB near Cheyenne, WY (150 missiles, still active)
and Whiteman AFB in central Missouri (150 missiles, deactivated).
One of each launch facilities controlled a "flight" of 10 missile silos.
Hey, another missile jock. I was at Ellsworth 76-81. Worked in all three squadrons: mostly at Hotel and then all over the wing too.
Thanks Mr. Russ👍. Did you ever find out who that man is driving that white van following you around🤣
Russ. I grew up in SD. (Moved there when I was 6 months old. Lived there until age 14 years. The capital of South Dakota, Pierre, is pronounced "peer" not the French way "Pierre".
Also, the SD town of "Lead" is pronounced "Leed". Just a FYI
@@larrykolda6107 Yep!
Agreed. When I was visiting, the first native I encountered quickly corrected me. It's Peer, not Pea Air, we're not French.
See South Dakota...and leave the driving to Russ! Really enjoyed the tour of the capitol building. (If you're ever in the Baton Rouge area, be sure to check out the old state capitol there) The auto museum is pretty cool as well--I like the sign at the front counter "Hi! You're among Friends", couldn't ask for a nicer welcome. I''m always surprised to find places like that with huge collections in small towns that I'd otherwise pass by without a clue. Thankfully I can find out about them by watching videos like yours. Happy trails!
FANTASTIC MUSIAM COLLECTIONS OF SOME OF THE BEST ROAD VEHICLES IN THE WORLD ' I HAVE TO VISIT THIS PLACE FOR SURE ' CONGRATULATIONS TO THE OCCUPIERS ' FROM ENGLAND 🇬🇧 UK.
10-4 on the time capsule!
2:09:07 The BADLANDS start here. It was great to see this national park again. I was a teenager in the 1970s last time out that way. Thank you, Russ!
Casey Tibbs (the rodeo museum at 30:27) inspired a one-season TV show in the 1960s: "Stoney Burke" starring Jack Lord as a rodeo competitor seeking the "Golden Buckle" award. Tibbs produced the rodeo sequences (also pulled some stunt double duty) and served as technical advisor for a number of episodes.
That’s wagon train ! Not Gunsmoke!
Real nice....loved those streets of that town❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🇰🇪🇰🇪
It's a miracle of a country and to be able to traverse it in this way (without crowded airports!) is a very special treat. I'll watch for all your "adventures" from now on. Thank you!!!
Love, love, love this video. I am originially from North Dakota. But, I haven't been to many parts of South Dakota. Now, I can say I have!!! 😁
Hello! Just wanted to add a comment about the fighting stallions monument that you looked at in Pierre SD. Its very interesting to note that the individuals with their pictures on that monument honor state officials and business leaders whom perished with the Governor in a plane crash in Iowa. Just thought you'd like to know some local history.
A few years ago I was in the badlands saw a herd of bighorn sheep. Right now here in central Minnesota we have over 3 feet of snow. Coldest so far was -14 below zero. In December. Was -1 this morning but warming to low 30’s to upper 20’s by Monday. Take care Russ be safe
This is the best one yet!! Thanks Russ, you’re a marvel. And thank you for the respect you show vets. Semper Fi, carry on.
Semper Fi !
@@bluegrassers hoorah!!
Wow. I loved the old town what a Treet
Just about to join you from England brilliant video steam
Hello Russ! Wonderful! I really enjoyed seeing South Dakota through your eyes. The impact that Eagle had at the Veterans Memorial was powerful! Amazing tour of the Courthouse, Museums, Old Homesteads & towns, Enjoyed the drive through the badlands, & seeing all its beautiful colors. With my new Gateway Notebook, I almost feel like I'm riding with you. I liked the campground, very inviting with the benches looking out over the town. Thank you.
I agree
A friend of mine was a missel tech stationed in Germany for the U S army. His duty was thirty days on, and thirty days off. He would report, and go down in the silo for thirty days. At the end of thirty days he would come back up, and he and his buddies would travel Europe. He went to all the countries in Europe. He loved it. He said he would not trade his adventures for anything.
Nice job Russ! Love South Dakota!!
Pierre, SD is pronounced "peer" by the way. In the winter, there is Christmas at the Capitol and there are a lot of Christmas trees throughout the building. It is awesome.
Just found this video and didn't have a chance to watch the whole thing. There is also a really beautiful scenic drive that follows the along Highway 1806 / 1804 that goes from Fort Thompson to Merida, ND.
Thanks for the South Dakota's Bad Lands and all, spectacular.
Thank you for making it------Loved it
I am a huge fan of dances with wolves,I drove my dad to San Deigo for his ships reunion, in 2005,on the way back to Alabama, we went to Pierre South Dakota and we actually stayed at the home of the principle set builder of the town and furniture .
Nice review Russ. I'm glad you got to see the Veterans memorial behind the Capital.
Hi Russ!
Great Video!
I got a SD driver's license recently (it took only one overnight in a campground!).I also took a tour of the Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse monument, saw buffalo and prairie dogs!
Now I am looking for a small half acre of land in Lawrence County I can park my camper van on during the summer, and use as a permanent legal domicile but small deeded RV lots in South Dakota are hard to find! Still looking though!
Now you don't have to pay state income tax as a legal resident of the state.
@@BillGreenAZ And no propery tax on vehicles! And I don't have to return to South Dakota annually for vehicle emission testing! Plus my vehicle insurance rate was cut in half!
We love the Firefighter Memorial. Thanks for sharing that!
Enjoyed the video of South Dakota. Such interesting and beautiful topography! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this lovely video!! Wish I could visit these places.
Visited twice in 2 years looking forward on returning.🙏🏼❤️
Yes that 1880 Museum props and buildings looks familiar from western movies. Very good. All those museums were interesting Very informative video.

More to come!
Absolutely loved the capitol and war memorial.

Beautiful
The food looked great, I like the red hair. Beautiful
Imagine the one who has to dust all that stuff.
Thank you Russ. I was born and raised in South Dakota.❤ Excellent video!!
Thanks for taking me down memory lane, great video! My Dad retired at Ellsworth AFB in 73. I later married an AF GI and we ended up at Ellsworth in 88. We left the AF in 92. It was great to live on base just down the street from Wahsington Dr. where I lived when I was 5 years old! Spent most of my childhood in South Dakota. EAFB, Rapid City, Box Elder, Custer, and Sioux Falls too. Miss being a Sodakian!
That is awesome!
Your channel is great! You are doing what myself and I’m sure many others would love to be doing. Just soaking up the States and the local communities that aren’t usually given a spotlight. Amazing stuff. If I ever strike it rich I’ll be out there somewhere doing the same.

I'll be 115 anything you want me to do??
I've watched many of your videos and I'd like you to know just how much I enjoy them. Your sometimes light humor, coupled with your detailed commentary is delightful. Please keep the videos coming and I'll be traveling with you!! 💜
thank you Lelia
Thank you Russ for the video! Appreciate the work you put into the project.
The capitol was beautiful and hats off to you for the fine video, but the car museum was epic! Definitely added to my bucket list. Thanks for the hard editing work.
Regards,
Kevin
We have friends in SD, and when we left their home after a visit they said we needed to go to Mitchel SD to see the Corn Palace. It was so amazing and very impressive. Such incredible large murals made with corn cobs. We loved it.
Thank you for posting this video. 😊
Wow! Thanks!! It is so beautiful inside their state capital. The white makes me think of what the Taj Mahal may have been like.
That's so cool 😎 😍 ❤️
The word most over used by you tubers. EPIC
In FortWayne,Indiana, there’s an antique car collection! Probably larger than in SD! Still love those old cars! I used to own a ‘56 Chevy, 4 door hardtop! Loved that car until the transmission went out!
Happy 91st Birthday 🎁 🎈
Thats so beutiful..im hoping to visit someday
Wow! Who would have thought all that stuff was there... your commentary with it is perfect.
Amazing architecture..beautiful..thank you!
Your so awesome!❤
This is the channel i been looking for. Rv + small towns + slow pace out west…..i cant wait to do something like that
That's a great memorial along the waterside.
At the museum those were, hit and miss engines, not air compressors. 🤔🤔🤔
I always enjoy South Dakota. We get to travel through there again this year.
Years ago we drove over the road and we were stopped over night in a rest area and the next morning in the badlands I seen an Indian chef on his horse with his full head dress was awesome

Thanks for taking us on this road trip! I’ve never been to SD! Impressive!
That capital building is amazing inside wow.

Oh, my heavens! So very clean, so lovely! Wheres all the cans and bags on the ground! Wheres the tents? Wheres the plastic and grime? Not where you went! I sure hate what my state has become, but this is lovely.
I'm liking the compilation videos Keep it up
I have been trying to figure out who your voice sounds like and it hit me when I saw an old western movie, You sound like Bruce Dern and I love it , your voice is so soothing ! Love these videos of yours
Wow beautiful state capital building
That's pretty out there! I've been to North Dakota to deliver a load, but never got a chance to see this. Thanks for showing this to us.
The next time you are in SD, you should go to Yankton....a lot of history there and a really nice town.
I love this channel ❤️ 😍
Many of the places I've been I've seen things like this I love the sights and vintage smell you just take it all in 😁
Beautiful 🤩
