- NOTE: This TAS is prelim (preliminary, so not fully optimised), and has multiple known improvements, which are listed below. Please do NOT consider this as the final/perfect TAS, as it will definitely be improved in the future, and will be linked in this paragraph when improved. There are also 10 authors of this TAS, who are listed below too.
This is a tool-assisted speedrun (TAS). Played on SwareJonge's Dolphin 5.0 LUA Core v3.3/v3.5. Tools used: slow-down, savestates, frame advance, TAS input, TAS code, RAM watch (info display), LUA scripts, text files, and LuigiM's TAS toolkit.
TAS BKT Cut: -23.092 (against no glitch)

Known improvements:
The supergrind on lap 1 can be set up and performed about 0.2-0.3 faster (found by Marth) by getting a full stick instead of a huge bounce, like we do on lap 3 here
The final section of lap 2 can be improved by 0.016 (found by Campbell), which also carries over to the final section of lap 3 (0.016 as well)
Carrying from Campbell's improvement, the lap 3 supergrind can be setup and performed about 0.1 faster (found by Marth), and everything past the fourth turn can be properly optimised (this is the next step, as it allows for more of the run to be completed more optimally, and is what we are focused on in order to get a better TAS out sooner)
About the run:
This is a re-encode of the 2:05.226 prelim TAS from February ( • rBC - 2:05.226 ) that was completed by taking the progress we had made on lap 3 before we had to restart it due to Campbell's lap 2 improvement. Of course, the end of the run was done in one attempt without splicing the fastest known ending at the time (which was the end of the 27.346 glitch flap), so I spliced in the inputs from that run on to the end of this run to bring you the fastest known time we would had been able to reach before we chose to restart lap 3 and kill the project.
Looking forward:
In a few months, we will probably be finished with the redo of lap 3 (no promises though, we aren't working on it actively right now, so it's just a guess), and therefore will be able to release the second attempt at a 3lap, which will hopefully be a sub 2:05 (which is awesome). If we're lucky, we might have motivation to redo lap 1 as well after that, which could take until next year to complete. Since lap 1 has at least 0.2-0.3 improvement, if the lap 3 improvements don't allow us to get the sub 2:05, then they will absolutely allow it.
Explanation of "WIP History" (because there will be questions):
10th - Zak's former NG BKT
9th - Marth's current NG BKT
8th - Logan's RTA WR (fastest time ever achieved across TAS and non-TAS at the time)
7th - Joke TAS by Bryce, made by editing the end of Logan's WR, so that the fastest achieved time was actually a TAS
6th - Slightly more serious TAS by Jellopuff, made in the same way, but by doing decent driving on laps 2 and 3 as well
5th - Joke TAS by myself, made during Ejay's and my ultra SC challenge, by performing the lap 2 glitch solely with my own input, and driving a prelim lap 3 (even doing spiral skip)
4th - The first ever attempt at seriously making a prelim lap 3, once lap 2 was finished, which I performed in call with Ando aiming to get a palindrome
3rd - Another significant prelim attempt, made after we had optimised the supergrind on lap 3
2nd - The most progress we ever legitimately made before restarting lap 3, made after almost making it to the staircase lap 3
1st - The most progress we have made so far, and the video you are watching (the chosen mii name is due to the fact that I could have got the 0.110 improvement in February but couldn't be bothered to)

*FAQ answers:*
1. Shroomless spiral skip on lap 3 saves 0.7 on Spear, and loses time on every other combo
2. Bullet Bike can't do the barrel roll ultra method so would lose 4-5 seconds from that alone
3. Touching the grass on the u turn after the staircase is much faster than avoiding it
4. Braking after the respawns is QM manipulation, without which we'd not get that low a trick
5. Prelim starts at 1:51

I have many things to say about this amazing TAS. The fact that it's only preliminary is crazy. This TAS was insane. The lap 1 supergrinding, the lap 2 ultra, the 3 lap 3 shroomless supergrinding and the shroomless respawn (which was clever) are incredible. Great work to all who helped on this TAS and contributed.
BTW, was that a mini earrape strat at 1:29?

I was going to say that doing the spiral skip would probably be faster than the bush shortcut because you’re on spear but turns out you can do it shroomless 😳
Thing is, you can’t do more than one respawn shortcut per race if they take mushrooms, as you lose the mushrooms after performing one of them, and obviously we need to do the glitch so that takes priotiy

0:56 I find it weird that it's faster to only go for 1 mt on the spiral, most of the time I see people getting 2 or 3. Is it because of the spear drift, or is there a different reason?

I’m racing a ghost (which is where the mii comes from) that has exactly the same inputs, so I tie it at all times, never differing from its position

2:03 wouldn't it be "faster" to avoid touching the grass path?
I think you need to slow down a bit there in order to take a good alignment when exiting the second drift in that turn (therefore playing around the bad drift stat the spear has)
No you would have to slow down anyways because of spears poor drift

touching the grass patch allows for a second drift to be released and cut off more of the turn. staying super wide and doing one drift without touching the grass is even slower than staying wide and doing one drift through the grass, and this double drift is just that but better
2:21 ?? Make sure to fix this in the final version of the TAS :P. Otherwise this is great

So it’s faster to do the glitch lap 2 and shortcut lap 3 than it is to do the glitch lap 1 and do shortcuts on laps 2 & 3?
The shortcut is barely faster, and the glitch only requires 2 shrooms so it's worthwhile to use the other shroom somewhere else before falling off and losing it.
Can you make a TAS with a mod that makes your vehicle never stop accelerating? I'd love to see inhuman precision plus incredible speeds. Thanks!

Lap 2 glitch is faster because you have the shroom to work with on lap 1, which saves more time than the spiral shortcut

would it be faster to glitch lap 1 so you can do respawn shortcuts on other laps shroomless?
always has been, though in 2020 was only barely. i just did the math wrong, and it wouldn't have made a massive difference (only like 0.1 or 0.2 iirc)
of course, for both IDB and ODB it is by far faster to do 3-0-0 thanks to multiple shroomless respawn shortcuts (at the moment 3-0-0 is required for ODB as nobody has got 2 shroom ultra but it's assumed that's possible and known to be just worse)
