This is the first 3lap TAS using Superhopping!
You will see how broken the new tech is by looking at the ghost comparison with the previous TAS record.

Thanks to Marth who found the shroom strat for lap1 and 2, and Ejay who helped with the last turn and the last straight on lap3.

The left bottom speedometer shows the horizontal moving speed, and the right bottom one shows the vehicle speed.
Some things about the run:
-When changing the direction of Superhopping, it can be done efficiently if the previous acceleration completely runs out.
-In the long straight lines (such as 0:36 or 1:33), airtime is really useful to adjust the angle and even build up the XZ speed.
-On lap3 we used a shroom in a different spot than on the other laps to avoid the thwomp right before the ramp section. Both shroom spots saved around 0.5 seconds.

Over 10 years later and I’m still just as entertained from watching this game get broken as I was as a 6 year old
Seeing improvements on 3lap TAS’s with superhopping was inevitable. But a 10 second cut on a TAS that already seemed so optimized is beyond what I could expect. Congrats Monster and everyone else involved!

this could mean that virtually everything we knew about this game from a TAS standpoint has been turned on its head. this may as well be a different game now- incredible that this revelation was made 14 years after release!

I honestly don't know what to say, a 10 second cut on a TAS that already had perfect qm on every turn is just ridiculous, this is truly incredible!
I understand that there is so much that goes into these kinds of tricks, but being someone on the outside of the community, the trick looking like it's just "weeee jumps go brrr" and then it saves 10 SECONDS OVER TAS is absolutely crazy. Great work Monster!

When I saw that massive cut, I was speechless, I literally shouted "WHAT THE FUCK???" And went silent and my heart just stopped for a whole min while trying to think what the fuck just happened, this game is officially unrecoverable at this point, keep breaking this game!

Not gonna lie, I will miss the wild tech seen in TASes for inside drifting bikes... but seeing the way outside drifting bikes pseudo-drift around the tracks in a much faster way is so cool. The movement style is so weird and new, I can't wait to see more runs like this come about and blow our minds with respect to what times we thought were possible!
No Glitch runs will still use the same inside drift strategies, so there's that at least.
Aye yeah, I just meant more I will miss seeing the IDBs everywhere. But, this new generation of strats is a really cool substitute :)

All of my time playing types of Mario karts, this takes the cake as the coolest thing I seen and way it's gonna change part of this franchise for the rest of time. Amazing 👏

imagine someone gave a nintendo employee 14 years ago a piece of paper that listed the seconds (but not milliseconds) of the fastest no-glitch times ever performed on all tracks and the dates they were set on and just saw the BC3 BKT drop by 10 seconds suddenly 14 years after the game was released, followed by god knows how many more massive cuts on other tracks

This TAS right here brings the number of ultra shortcuts in the game from 22 to 21. After 3 long years the ultra has now gone full circle:

Lap 3 had one more mini turbo than both the first and second lap, which I assume is only because of the earlier mushroom usage due to the Thwomp timing. That to say how actually broken super hopping is

Would there be any viability for this in non-TAS time-trials? Just thinking if you could get partial accuracy at pulling it off would it ever be faster?

Btw, because of the fact that Superhopping doesn't need such a big set up like Supergrind, Could it be a strat added to some TAS Records on tracks that do Supergrinds on some part of the track like Luigi Circuit or Delfino Square in your opinion?
Also, do you see this being done humanly? It doesn't seem like it but maybe something less fast but humanly doable maybe could, idk.

Superhopping should be useful on almost every course. The tracks which we think superhopping is likely to be slower on are LC, DKSC, RR, rYF, rWS, and rMC3.

We’re most certainly gonna need another leaderboard for superhopping…
Superhopping is similar to supergrinding in terms of what's happening in the game's code. So, it's placed in categories that supergrinding would normally be in (Unrestricted, and No Ultra SC).
I remembered the previous time was a 1:51, so when I saw the title I was like "wtf???". Insane. I don't think even in like 2010 the ever saw an improvement of this magnitude in the same category. So what's the secret to improve the route to save 10 seconds? Remove skips that were added in the last TAS. LOL.
