Hot Dog Casserole -- Chile Cheese Hot Dog Casserole
Hot Dog Casserole
Ingredients:
2 cans chili with beans
1 - 10 ounce can Rotel tomatoes (drained)
8 ounce can crescent dough
1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
3 slices of cheddar cheese, cut in half to make 6 pieces
6 beef smoked sausage
½ onion diced
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. In a 9×13 inch pan, combine the canned chili and Rotel and stir until well mixed.
3. Sprinkle the diced onions over the chili.
4. Sprinkle the cheese onto the center of the pan. Set aside for now.
5. Lay out the crescent dough on the counter. Tear the croissants into 6 individual triangles.
6. Place a piece of the cheddar cheese on the crescent triangle. Roll the hot dog up in the crescent triangle making sure to leave the hot dog ends exposed.
7. Place each wrapped hot dog on top of the chili mixture in the baking dish. Try to make sure they are evenly spaced.
8. Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes or until the crescent rolls turn golden brown on top and are cooked through.
9. You may need to cover the crescent rolls with foil to prevent them from burning.
10. Serve and Enjoy !!!

That is what our children called Pigs in a Blanket when they were young. Boy! they loved hot dogs. Calvin two thumbs up and such a nice thing to do for Marie, every lady loves to get out of the kitchen once and awhile. Watch the same movie a few nights ago, and really enjoyed it. I found that cooking the rolls with dogs in the oven first then adding them to the chili base and then putting them in the oven worked much better. The face down part of the rolls are not uncooked this way. My whole family, including Dad, loved this receipt.

I gave this a try. I liked the idea of mixing the chili with the Rotel tomatoes but I really didn't much care for the end result.
I tried a second batch leaving out the crescent dough. It was WONDERFUL!

Thanks very much, yes the Cresent rolls will be too soft unless you cover them with foil and cook long enough to be done. When I use the thinner Walmart brand Cresent rolls they usually do better.

I made this tonight it was Delicious!! I watched the video last night and had everything I need except the chili so went out and bought 2 cans of Chili. I used Puritan brand mild chili, i'm in Canada and found it at my local Walmart. As for tomatoes I just used a can of Aylmer tomatoes and garlic. I forgot to add onions but regardless it was delicious.
