I remember being at this show. They opened for Fair to midland who I was there to see. I managed to listen to a little of their music (Karnivool) days before the show and became as eager to see them as I was Fair to midland. They blew me away. As much as a loved Fair to midland at the time there was no comparison. Little did I know how big a fan of Karnivool I’d become and that they wouldn’t play Canada again for over 11 years and counting. I didn’t know what I had at the time watching that show.
Damn that bass tone - signature Warwick growl! Tool are epic and Karnivool are incredible but they are different bands which both deserve our respect and admiration for making stunning music and daring to be different and not bowing to commercial pressure.
Christopher Kowalski oh definitely dude! however in my opinion, karnivool are far far far better than tool. that's not saying tool is a bad band I think tool are awesome to. they just don't even compete with karnivool.
I have met Jon Stock and his bass rig is massive!! he uses a big pedal board and high cabinets and amps, who cares it's one of the best bass sounds out there!
@botaeriksson Definite influence as well as Perfect Circle. When I play "Sound Awake", I skip to track 4 to begin the record. It feels like there own distinctive sound from thereon, really solid album minus the first few tracks...
oh my god will people please stop comparing tool and karnivool?? this always happens!!! ive seen so many people randomly comparing bands for no reason. karnivool is awesome, tool is fantastic....whats there to argue about? depends on what mood you're in. just pipe down and enjoy the music
i don't know why people associate the two. they're both great, but they're very different. and I guess it depends on what you like really, I prefer Tool's surgically precise composition infused with some the more stoner-sludge oriented stuff.
Themata is very Nu-meltal IMO, Sound Awake's still got a bit of Nu in it. The Caudal Lure being the best example. Tool on the other hand is as much Nu-Metal as it's bebop or baroque. Notice that I'm not talking about good vs bad bands, I'm talking about genre attribution - which isn't something I'm particularly fond of anyway, people should just fucking enjoy what all these brilliant musicians create.
You guys have no idea what Nu-Metal is......Nu-Metal is going back to the days of Korn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and Staind. If anything both TOOL and Karnivool are both Progressive metal bands.
@juby08mongo72 Oh My dear Friend. Tool sets the mark i agree. but Karnivool sets the soul. Karnivool over Tool any day. Welcome to the era of The Vool.
@johnsonrowey Yes, Yes he is. But, obviously, Birds of Tokyo somehow appeal to the masses, whereas Karnivool appeal to lovers of technical music. Oh, look at the time. I'm about to go and watch them at the Coolangatta Hotel..... MUAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!
@FABIANbassplayer In terms of complexity? Yes. I prefer tool, but volta is a lot more complex than them. Tool's complexity comes from the rhythm, not much more. Not saying htats bad, just different.
@hellskitchen123 oh sry not trying to criticize ya...just not enjoying all the tool comparisons on karnivool vids...we all influenced by someone. Different tone of guit and vocals...to me anyways. Sure youtube loves you....and so do I. Nothing personal.
@voolfan92 My friend.. I love this band too but believe me.. Tool beats them!^^ 1)Tool 2)Karnivool 3)A Perfect Circle 4)Coma (Polish progressive band^^)

Was such a pleasure to photograph them at this show and a few others in the USA.
They need a return tour
I love Karnivool!! They are the greatest band out there right now, and live.....no one can beat them.
Damn that bass tone - signature Warwick growl!
Tool are epic and Karnivool are incredible but they are different bands which both deserve our respect and admiration for making stunning music and daring to be different and not bowing to commercial pressure.
Tool and Karnivool are two entirely different musical subjects, there’s no comparing the two.
Christopher Kowalski oh definitely dude! however in my opinion, karnivool are far far far better than tool. that's not saying tool is a bad band I think tool are awesome to. they just don't even compete with karnivool.
The only people trying to compare Karnivool and Tool are the ones ignorant enough to think that it MATTERS AT ALL.
That's nuts man! Karnivool are one of my favorite bands. Would love to meet them some day!
they sound like a perfect circle kinda... i love it
JON STOCKMAN!
My favourite bass line, when the bass kicks in. It's only 1 note!!! Amazing.
THAT FUCKING ENDING!!!! BAM!
such an epic performance by a great band. I just wish they put out more music!
finally!!!!
WHEN IS EVER KARNIVOOL COMING BACK TO CANADA? I moved to Toronto in 2015 and have been patiently waiting for these guys to tour North America again
his voice sounds nice gives me goose bums ^^ love the accent hot^^!
...I want that bass!! (and love the tone)
Great sounding video!
Thanks a LOT!
Too right it is mate! Guy knows how to make that bass sing!
I have met Jon Stock and his bass rig is massive!! he uses a big pedal board and high cabinets and amps, who cares it's one of the best bass sounds out there!
Cool Batman t-shirt. Love this band
4:05 looks like he's holding two beers ;P, so excited to see them in Amsterdam!
I like how fans of karnivool also like tool, but personally I don't think they're comparable. Two different bands, really.
anyone else notice the subtle and most outstanding factor about this band? They've had a huge influence from Tool!! fucking love the band...
@botaeriksson Definite influence as well as Perfect Circle. When I play "Sound Awake", I skip to track 4 to begin the record. It feels like there own distinctive sound from thereon, really solid album minus the first few tracks...
Dem left handed crash hits...
Steve Judd hits HARD!
That time signature! Damn! This band is like the second coming of TooL
3.27 and around that part they sound just like a band called Cave In. Especially the sound off of Jupiter
Pretty good recording for a Cam!
Nice work! :D
Holy Bass Tone!!
I was right in front of Drew! Wicked show!
@ds6011 FINALLY someone who's not affraid to say it!
unreal good
@WastePotato Tool are above everything. Karnivool are getting there, quickly.
Somebody get the official video (the one with bits from Saw 3D) and put it on youtube so us aussies can see it!
@ds6011 I wouldn't go that far, Karnivool are fantastic but Tool are in a world of their own
Karnivool>all
WHY WASNT I HERE
Karnivool RULES to me there better then:
Dream Theater and Rush anyday of the week. Can't what for the new Karnivool CD.
oh my god will people please stop comparing tool and karnivool?? this always happens!!! ive seen so many people randomly comparing bands for no reason. karnivool is awesome, tool is fantastic....whats there to argue about? depends on what mood you're in. just pipe down and enjoy the music
nice bassplayer!
@hellskitchen123
cheers brother
Woow, what an awesome quality, what did you record it with?

Stick drop at 2:23!
That's a quick stick change @ 2.20. And I mean lickety split!
@voolfan92 true
@stexnookie

i don't know why people associate the two. they're both great, but they're very different. and I guess it depends on what you like really, I prefer Tool's surgically precise composition infused with some the more stoner-sludge oriented stuff.
@777static777
Jono (bass player) is my cousin mate. I'll put a word in for ya and he might donate? haha ;)
just curious what effect mark uses in the intro
LOVE THE BATMAN SHIT!!!!!
Themata is very Nu-meltal IMO, Sound Awake's still got a bit of Nu in it. The Caudal Lure being the best example.

You wouldn't have Tool without King Crimson. The wheel keeps spinning
@WastePotato why do you need to compare dude?
@FABIANbassplayer In terms of complexity? Yes. I prefer tool, but volta is a lot more complex than them. Tool's complexity comes from the rhythm, not much more. Not saying htats bad, just different.
Tool = Band that makes 10 minute nu-metal songs.
Karnivool > Tool.
@WastePotato Tool is in no way Nu-Metal. You wouldn't have Karnivool without TOOL. Both are great in their own way.
I like the bass but its very i mean VERY loud :P
@hellskitchen123
oh sry not trying to criticize ya...just not enjoying all the tool comparisons on karnivool vids...we all influenced by someone. Different tone of guit and vocals...to me anyways.

Lovely song and the singing is awsome! Do I sense a bit of TOOL in this!? ;-)
Wow, that bass is destroying. Good performance.
@voolfan92 My friend.. I love this band too but believe me.. Tool beats them!^^
1)Tool 2)Karnivool 3)A Perfect Circle 4)Coma (Polish progressive band^^)
Karnivool's good don't get me wrong, but they're not on Tool's level thats just facts
Music isn't competitive...
more mrs volta than tool, if anything. They're more prog than tool anyway.
No.
Nu-metal? Are you high?
I can see a bunch of tools comparing bands here, pun intended.
