Great interview! As a WVU fan, this was the bit of information we needed to hear after the Pitt loss and Rodriguez's move from WVU to Michigan in 2007. There was no resolution from Rodriguez's side of the story or from the WVU administration's side of the story, as to why Rodriguez abruptly left for Michigan. Even the WVU football team had no certain idea as to why he left, considering McAfee's surprise by Rodriguez's explanation. It shouldn't have taken 13+ years for Rodriguez, former WVU president Michael Garrison, former WVU AD Ed Pastilong, or anyone else close to the situation to give a proper reason as to why the Rodriguez/WVU split even happened. I think Rich Rodriguez and Pat McAfee were very genuine and open throughout this interview. My criticisms of Coach Rodriguez's departure from WVU have softened after watching this interview... especially knowing it potentially only required $50,000 more for his coaching staff's payroll for Rodriguez to stay on at WVU, yet also knowing the hypocrisy of then WVU President, Michael Garrison allowing a degree to be given to Mylan Pharmaceutical's Heather Bresch (current WV Senator, Joe Manchin's daughter) without earning the required credits for the degree. That shows that the WVU administration was very much potentially at fault for a lot of the school's downfall within a one year span of Garrison's tenure as president.

I can tell ya firsthand living in Western Maryland just 1 hour from Morgantown that the Rich Rod Era brought a crazy amount of sensationalism to the Tri-state area. Newly-minted WVU fans came out of everywhere to join in the fun. It was a great time to be a Mountaineer and brought so much economic upside to everyplace within a 100 mile radius of Morgantown. It was electrifying being at Mountaineer stadium on a Saturday then.

That explanation not just to the team, but to the fans could easily have gotten him the money. It's a shame he didn't go public. The millions spent on the successive program could have instead sustained a legacy program. Live and learn.

Rich Rod is definitely an innovator and the godfather of the spread offense.. He should be in the college football hall of fame for his contributions that revolutionized the game.. There hasn't been a change as significant as the introduction of the spread since the days of the single wing.. I don't see how you can keep him out of the Hall of Fame..
ULM has got a winner. You can tell he loves his players. He is a dying breed. He is in it for the boys. God Bless you Rich Rod.
Love how pat relates to just about everyone he comes in contact with
Coach came out HOT
That interview was a gem!
I like Rich Rod. He was wronged at Michigan and was/is one of the better coaches in CFB. Would be great if he went back to WVU and brought them back to national recognition.
Heard the guy talk for 30 seconds and new I was here for 30 minutes
Throughly enjoyed this
Coach Rich Rod was the greatest thing that ever happened at WVU, I was born bleeding blue and old gold and I love every team we’ve ever had but coach Rod gave this state and everything and everyone in it hope, pride, faith and pure joy in our football team it broke a lot of hearts when he left and to this day I love the man for what he accomplished here in West by God Virginia he could have been governor at one time if he wanted it, the thing about WVU football is that it is everything to the the amazing people from WV and he took us to heights that we had never seen before and I for one will always and forever be grateful for what he his staff and most importantly the players for all they did for us and I wish he was back bc he belongs to us we love him and wish him nothing but the best thank you Coach Rod and good luck brother country roads take you home to the place you belong go eers
Michigan did You wrong Rich Rod I loved when you went there was very disappointed when they let you go. Big fan of yours
I love how pat got so excited to see his old coach again it’s actually really heart warming
Rich now looks happier and more relaxed at Jacksonville State, maybe not exactly his Alabama dream job,but he likes the job and area, could even retire there.
Sitting across from law school hill and good ol Milan puskar waitin on my woman, man we miss both of you!
As a Wolverine fan it’s cool to see Rich Rod in a way different light than I’m used to. Good to see he was such a positive figure in Pats journey
I went to a Rich Rod football camp in HS, when he was a coach for Glenville st. My Brother in law got his ass run off by Rich Rod.
Rich Rod broke our heart when he left WVU.
I know it is a business. But that doesn't change the hurt that it caused.
My hometown Team! Go Warhawks and congrats Coach!
That explanation not just to the team, but to the fans could easily have gotten him the money. It's a shame he didn't go public. The millions spent on the successive program could have instead sustained a legacy program. Live and learn.
Wild & wonderful WVA for life
Damn, I graduated in Spring of 2011 from Michigan State- all I can say is, what a time, it was to be alive 🤙🏾👊🏾😂
He was great at Arizona. Since he was fired we haven’t been competitive at all. Miss good old boy rich rod
Would love to hear another convo Pat
Had he stayed at WVU, they would've won a national championship
Could have won it in 07 if they made it and played OSU
@@langer24106 as an OSU fan I resent this comment lol
Them WV teams were legit. Pat White, Slaton and that white FB was a maniac.
@@JW-28 Owen Schmitt
Can’t forget about Noel Devine
Pat i graduated wvu winter 08 a semester early with pat white stayed in Lyon tower with Steve Slayton n pat white. .wvu at that time was the most fun place ever. Halloween will never be the same.
Wow - I love love rich rod after hearing this interview
I will forever believe Rich Rod threw that game against Pitt. But with that said, this interview definitely changed my perspective on him and wish him the best!
