This niche form of sample sequencing has been a real eye-opener for me and I wanted to share my experience. Do not fear the grid.

I love this and it's inspired me to use this tracker in a new way
This is the greatest crossover event in history
What is this, a crossover episode?
I really want to see what this thing and Chase Bliss Habit pedal could do together. 😊
Really happy I finally found a tracker video where someone is getting beyond the “cliche” electronic beats mindset. Thank you
❤
1:05 Seeing a picture of Noisetracker 2.0 almost brought a tear to my eye. It (Amiga 500) had two left and two right channels. If you wanted a kick and snare centered, you had to have them on two tracks. They did give you complex options though, basically Elektron style parameter locks in 1991. I had hundreds of samples with names like D-20 and D-50, M1piano etc. The names made more sense later when I discovered hardware synths.
As a fellow OCD guy, I just wanted to say that I appreciate that you aligned the wire going out from the Tracker with the center point of the joining woodboards. Thank you. :)
you've gotten some really lovely results here, man. bravo!! looking forward to hearing, aaaaand... to seeing what i might come up with using the polyend tracker.
I just love this new content. Thoughtful and thought provoking. Even though you’re treading on GAS land (gear review youtube). You make it more organic and more like you’ve actually tried to use your new instruments in YOUR context and not for the sake of reviewing gear. It’s actually really refreshing!
Check out Ricky Tinez and Cuckoo if you haven't, they operate in the same area as this dude.
Just beautiful, thank you this was exactly how I was imagining that this thing could be used; but with a little difference, the sounds that I was hearing in my head were more of the synth nature and a little bit of found sound, I think the possibilities are endless.
only you, my dear Knobert, could make me want something I have no need for. Thanks for being inspiring
lmao Knobert
Great stuff. Inspiring workflow. You make so many instruments and devices fold happily into your ideas. It's fun to watch.
I like you 🤗
I was watching this thinking "damn cuckoo would like this thing" and here you are
ain't he somethin'?!?
Separated at birth?
@Stephen Anthony 😂
Yo, to get kudos and praise from @True Cuckoo is a very rare thing, you’re doing something right.
this is sooo inspiring. not even for tracker stuff only. but the production concept is gold. thank you for this
The tones you recorded and incorporated at 14:43 blew my damn mind. I was listening during a workout and I had to stop and WATCH to see what was going on. Amazing! ❤ 🎼
Thanks for the inspiration! I like the granular comparison!
This is great. Loved going along with your thought process.
Hello Mr. Knobs. Like the last comment I just saw...I like you also. Your approach to this unique INSTRUMENT is also unique. Considering this unit, which brought me here along with other vids. Yours was the one that may inspire me to acquire. The reason is the experimental environment this workflow inspires, and the ability to not only go nearly anywhere but also direct the direction. The obvious difference in the first piece and the acoustic direction was the biggest point you made here. Thanks for the great introduction to this device! Peace, My Babies!😎
I like Renoise, but I don't like spending hours on the computer, but this is perfect, hand on machine.
@@rorz999 I have one but I still feel I need it near a computer...because that's where the sound card to the speakers are.
Dude your stuff sounds like The Books or The Notwist. I love them and I love you!
Never apologize for your head, everything we love is in there!
amazing work bro. I love applying the concepts in your videos in my own work. keep it up BIG G!!
I love seeing so many different vibes coming out of this device! Seems like such a wild and useful compositional tool. I have a model samples and don’t really gel with it because once I make something it’s much more difficult to know what’s going on. This, though there is depth, there’s a place where the info is, like the instrument number and what is happening on each step. Thanks for showing a different approach here!
wonderful ending piece! And thanks for the clear demo of how you can use this thing that was once looking soo confusing!
yeah, this is great! I was on the fence about this tracker but now, I think I can make it the brain of my rig.
Informative and relaxing as always 👏👏👏
This is so cool! Thanks for sharing knobs
I’ve been keeping tabs on this for a while, and I have this guy preordered. I’m in this niche :)
I think that now I have to get this device. Thanks for the inspiring video!
Dag, this is sweet. This is the first I've ever heard of a tracker.
I like the tutorial aspect of this. Would love to see more on your other devices.
Nicely explained. Cool results! Number four was quite a departure
this fill function is like having a really wide brush to fill in a chunk of time without having to really know exactly what you want yet, tunable randomness inspiring af
Love this future wind chime music.
Super helpful, and great sounds as always. I'd buy a record of this stuff. Lovely tunes.
Awesome video. I honestly have no interest in using trackers and Im more of a synth person than a guitar player ye5 I enjoyed this and other Knobs videos. Your channel is always accessible, inspiring and informative. Im glad you are talking and putting your face in now, I think your personality helped here with a tracker generally being seen as this very dry platform.
The final result sounds amazing
@15:15 Nice 😎
Thanks for the wonderful video!
Awesome!!!! Hope you get paid well for this terrific work cause I end up wanting a lot of the gear you present :-D
Granular sequencing is one of the best ways to describe it. Great video!
I see.. Im about to study granular sequencing.
Hey! This was an unexpected treat!
Lovely, thanks for the introduction ~
Fucking loved this video. I’m beyond amazed with what you can do with boxes of buttons, currents, and speakers
i love what you did Man ..that's kind of magic and how i imagine to use this machine thanks for this tutorial and sharing your experience ... goods videos on your channel i'm in ...
I've bought one of these recently and I've re-watched this video several times. I'm finally understanding what you're doing. It looks like you could have blooper'ed your loops prior to throwing them into the Tracker as well. I've been watching a lot fo the Blooper videos and I'm feeling it's the time to pick one of these up (I also didn't start to understand it until this week...a whole 1.5 years later, it's coming together...). I feel like I live on a desert island sometimes....
Sounds like Bloopers w sequence control. I too enjoy your channel, thank you.
Fascinating and lovely. Thanks.
Nice to see that Polyend sent this to people other than electronic-based channels. Seems to work well in this context.
I actually think it works better in this context. Tired of seeing the same house/techno/IDM demos of every synth in the market.
I’ve never thought there’d be a day when I see knobs’ face
He looks like a woodland elf
Woah, same. Also: Why is knobs hot? Never would have guessed, tbh.
I feel like he didn’t want his appearance to have anything to do with the Knobs Thing ™️ so I feel bad for even noticing but like, yeah he’s fuckin hot wtf
OH I WOULDVE GUESSED KNOB WAS HOT
X2
Have a great summer; don't ever change.
Brilliant done! Makes me want a Blooper. 😆
All these videos on the Polyend Tracker honestly makes me want to get one for myself. I found software trackers to be a huge turn off but now that it’s in hardware form and seeing what this can do, I may actually snag it for myself :)
HOW IS EVERYTHING YOU MAKE SO PRETTY
Kind of reminds me of The Books. Beautiful stuff as usual!
listening only to the reasons you were not interested at first made my mouth water : )
I love everything in this video
Thanks great idea to apply on other gear, even I’m really interested by the Tracker I’m fairly exploring Digitakt possibilities. 👏🏿👏🏿
I really adore this!
Damn, this is so cool! To get results like this i have to chop my sample into every single nuance of itself and then i place each individual slice in the step sequencer in LMMS (it's like fruity loops) - from there i can have this kind of looping flexibility.
@@rorz999 Hey bro, haha yes, and it friggen was! But a few weeks back I saw a tutorial on renoise, downloaded the demo and poof, life changed! It truly unlocked a whole new layer of creativity and flexibility for me. Took a bit of getting used to the workflow and vertical playhead vibe but damn, it's fun! When I eventually purchase it I plan to export the wav from there and flesh it out in Ardour which is my main sequencer (I'm fully linux because I'm fully broke haha) - Happy tune making mate
Had my unit on order for several months now. Alleged 3 to 4 weeks (Sept 2020). Really looking forward to playing with this.
Likewise, I'm looking to do some chill experimental stuff, but would be rude to not have a go at making something reminiscent of the time period of trackers.
Going to car boot sales on a Sunday, and coming back with piles of PD software, Demos and mods to check out, was a great time in my teenage years. Amiga, Octamed and Protracker made it into my mate and I's makeshift studio :-)
Using Stereomaster to Sample off records etc
Quite literally, I managed to afford this from around 5 years of loose change, and weighed a bloomin lot when I cash it in at the bank ;-)
Anyway, roll on mid September
Love the video thanks to Renoise I got into it years back its definitely a unique way yo make music
Ahhhh!! A fellow black hair/red beard! Amazing video as always!
Yeah I’m getting one. Amazing job. Reminds me of Bon Ivers more experimental moments.
oh yes! so so inspiring!
As usual this is a very structured video with this dreamy atmosphere that is your brand. Thank you,
OP-1 or Op-Z demos soon ?
5:15 Don't apologize for your head! Your head is brilliant, dude. Great work.
Your avatar got me. I tried to blow the eyelash off my screen.
@@harveytherobot haha, I got comments like this all the time
I was kinda sold on the Dirtywave M8, but this video put the Polyend back on my radar... only thing is that I'd need a synth to accompany it, since this looks like it doesn't have synth engines? need to look more into it....... awesome video!
You are my hero!!
can you do another video on this, the music you make on it is calm and satisfying
cool!!!
Tracking is awesome! Jake Kaufman, Toby Fox, many others make such cool tunes on them.
5:16 don't worry man, you don't gotta apologize for your head. we've all got one and yours is just as fine as everyone else's.
All music can be tracked in a spreadsheet when you think about it.
You are my hero
Loved this dude, taking bread and butter knobs sounds into new territories. I know everyone keeps saying it, but pleeeeeease release an album of bloops!
If you haven't already, check out ORCA by hundred rabbits, it's a great tool for midi thats sort of tracker-y but also not really. Anyhoo, for sequencing sample like in this vid I reckon you'd like it, maaaaaybe!?
i’d love to see a live coding / tidal cycles knobs video
Very nice, reminds me of Volcano Choir
Nice sounds
Getting major Bagpuss theme vibes from your samples
i loveeee this new style. does it come with any samples baked in or does polyend offer any?
This is a prototype with no Material. The final product will come with a filled 16GB SD Card with lits of Sounds. I hope Knobs will provide some too.
I'm glad RUclips steered me here, didn't know about you from before. Subbed.
I make acoustic music but wanted another approach to writing/recording. This is the answer
Knobs is the Bob Ross of guitar pedals and effects.
great video
Reminds me of some of Califone's weirder stuff!!
So, The Books in a box?
SOLD
a machine that samples is not a "specific thing" in a box. it is an extremely flexible tool which could be anything. but you're gonna have to play those little blippy reverbed guitar loops with a chase bliss pedal before trying to sequence those samples in any kind of meaningful way that's somehow more interesting that if you would have just hit play on a tascam 4 track and played it out in a take. unless knobs is selling sample packs now
I'm interested what kind of guitar are you using for the samples? sounds really nice and twangy! Also thanks for the video - trackers are great!
Fast tracker or pro tracker can't remember which it was because I'm old but one of them used to have the game snake while it loads was great at the time
I know im in a nice place when im feel a little confused but also pleasant is a wonderful phrase
I had that moment with Blender 3D last night, when the animation finally clicked with me. The shittiest Death Star trench run just flowed out of me..
Preordered the Tracker recently. The main reason I liked it is because of the grid and navigation ease. There is a synth possibilities, sampling and a Radio! :)
I've never gelled with trackers before and I've tried a few times. This video made more sense to me though. It makes me kind of see it like an Octatrack but you can see all the various 'p-locks' on the screen at once. Kinda cool but I think i'll stick to the Octatrack. Might have a play on a software tracker though to give it another whirl. :)
Does anybody know if it is possible to fill in notes in Renoise, the way you can here? @ 8:43 ish
Fellow music nerds...anyone seen the movie “The Mountain” it’s on Hulu at the moment. Super simple ambient music. Really weird movie but really beautiful. And it’s always nice to have Jeff Goldblum around am I right?
Idea #4 sounds like every town festival in a 90s RPG
Sounds like that band Mountain towards the end.
I like "the results" :)
these things slice up drums for jungle tracks (breaks) to a T. I am getting it for this reason alone! Renoise software is a really good software for anyone wanting to start using a tracker without paying a huge amount of money for it. Trackers are great for their purpose.. sampling. too many people sh*t on trackers because it doesn't suit their style or needs.. Ill be using this tracker for processing breaks, as well as Ableton Push 2 and then Ableton/MIDI keyboard for everything else. Ive found a really good way to process breaks through the use of Ableton, combined with a tracker.
I love the song you composed in this video - it has a great "The Books" feeling. I don't suppose you'd share the Tracker file for it?
I’ve been making music for 25 years and this I’ve never heard of
Idea 3: 🔥👀
Mad tracker!
Must have product.
I’ve been watching your hands so much in the past it feels strange to know now you have such a gorgeous face
