I've been trying to find a good ITB filter for quite a while. Thanks you so much for your video. :) I was able to easily slip the Pipercross filter right on with my 90mm velocity stacks (20V black top in an AE101) - without having to do the complicated way you did. :)
I watched your video about trying trumpets of different lengths and thought you really ought to have a filter to save undue wear on your engine. Glad you've followed up with another good vid.
I am installing Silvertops on my Miata with an older Hummelink kit and was not able to fit the pipecross filter because you couldn't get the filter inbetween the bottom of the engine bay and the trumpets, now that I saw what you had to do, I think I will be able to run them.
I have been dreading thins on my ae 91 😂 thanks you I have found inspiration to get my A into G and get me a 4age 20v ☺️ I have a ae91 1987 fxzi it's a sunroof but have made an fxgt replica, she's got a 20v blacktop in her and brakes from an ae111 bzr levin f n r ect she's a great car ☺️
I had stacks on mine but I think I have to use the stock plenum with an air filter until I can get a stand alone ECU tune. The torque with the trumpets felt absolutely dead below 4k RPM and the tuners at my local garage say that the engine wasn't designed to suck that much air from a non airbox'd source running stock. It did sound amazing though, and yours does too.
I would love to do this engine swap on my 88 SR5 someday. It's been driven in too many Indiana winters though and I need to completely strip the car down to bare metal and fix the rust first. Your videos are great by the way, I love AE92s.
awesome ride man, Just had a fx16 in the garage today, first time seeing or working on one, cant wait to get it running good for the touge action this year.
I might get those Uni filters and give them a try on my Blacktop soon as i get trumpets :) Does the ISCV simply run vented to atmosphere when running open throttles or do you need to filter the idle air somehow?
I have an itg filter similar to this, the mounting screws have easily come off with vibration of the engine. I just replaced them with actual screws and solved my problem. I just don't want the same thing to happen to you
what is power gain from this trumpets? did you try shorter trumpets? I have right hand drive rolla so brake parts are limiting dimension of 1st cylinder trumpets ps funny word - trumpets)))
awesome buddy, i love the look of your tappet cover and ITBs. What is the correct diameter and size of the ITB's for a standard blacktop 4age motor ? I have heard that running ITB's can cause damage to the engine ?
cool car man! i have an ae101 fx-gt with the silvertop 20v 4age in it... i had the valve cover off recently and found that it is quite black under there with buildup (im assuming past owners were lazy with oil changes??) any tips on cleaning this?? and do you think it will be losing performance because of it?? thanks! keep up the videos, really cool to see someone doing videos on an engine/car that i have and can relate too 😃
Hallo sir i have in my corolla blacktop engine, 110mm trumpets, can you tell me which is the code for this pipercross filter specific for the 110mm trumpets?
Bit of a hassle but could you not use the UNI filters (oversized) with a DIY metal cage (chicken wire) to keep the filter offset and stop it being sucked in?
wouldn't it be easier to just pop the strut bar off and slide the filter over the top of the already attached trumpets or do you still not have enough room?
Hello, Just wanted to ask anyone here knows what throttle cable was used for the engine? I have a 20 v silvertop installed on a ae101 but the stock ae101 throttle cable is a bit stiff and kinda difficult to control. Cant seem to find the answer in google as well. Thanks in advance 🙂
I have a Blacktop in an MR2. I bought it with a cheap autozone intake on it and am tired of the horrible droning sound at around 3000 RPM. How hard is it to install these trumpets? Do I have to mess with the fuel system or any sensors?
I used some tips from João Rocha da Silva, like labeling everything that you are disconnecting with masking tape. If you are going to rebuild the engine, you can follow the Toyota Factory manual which is very in-depth (just be careful with the exhaust cam position). The swap is pretty straight forward if you use the original transmission, if you use the 6 speed, you will need to modify the transmission mount. The wiring can be tricky so i sent my harness off.
The o2 sensor is still in the exhaust. The 20v blacktop doesn't have a flapper box or mass air flow meter and relies on the throttle position sensor and the MAP sensor which allows it to run with open trumpets. There is a air temp sensor that i just mounted in front of one the trumpets.
I'm using the mounting plate for the filter in between the stacks with no gasket maker, otherwise I bolt them directly to the throttle bodies if I'm running them open.
Hi there Could u pls copy and paste the link of the piper cross filter and adaptor plate in this comment below ... I would like to buy one Thank you South Africa
Can I ask you a question I'm doing the exact same engine swap a 20v blacktop but into a ae101 corolla only problem that is worrying me is wiring can you give me any tips
I tried to wrap my head around the wiring for 3 weeks before i decided not to risk messing it up. I sent my old and new harness to a guy named Doug Copeland ( www.wiregapinc.com/ ) he made the harness plug and play for me. I had the difficulty of switching the harness to left hand drive from RHD.
sushpants did you send him all of the wiring from inside the car too or did you just send him the 2 engine looms cause I thought once I just used the 4age ecu and engine loom I wouldn't need anything from my 4efe and I could just plug it in and tick it over ?
I sent him just the two engine looms, the other stuff stays. The plugs are probably different on the body connections for your car and need to be switched over. The speed signal also needs to be wired into the ecu so it doesn't limit the redline.
Hey nice car and engine. I have an AE92 GTi and would like to put a pipercross in on my blacktop. Problem is my car is RHD. Can you give me a measurement of ur pipercross from itb plate to front?
Dude, you're just the best. My blacktop 92 thanks you to NO end. My daughter does too, she says (she loves this car when it runs, lol).
I also appreciate that you aren't standard YT *explitive* after *explitive* nonsense :) ALSO: BG FTW
Thank you, Frejdyn Jarrett
@Kyree Alijah lmao, both of ya stfu
Finally someone that agrees with how my engine feels with the UNI filters but its either that or dust sooooo uni filters for now. Awesome video.
Just fitted the piper cross on and car feels exactly the same without it as u explained. Now my motor is protected and not restricted thank you sir.
I've been trying to find a good ITB filter for quite a while. Thanks you so much for your video. :)
I was able to easily slip the Pipercross filter right on with my 90mm velocity stacks (20V black top in an AE101) - without having to do the complicated way you did. :)
Quality videos dude. Also, your car is awesome 👐
I watched your video about trying trumpets of different lengths and thought you really ought to have a filter to save undue wear on your engine. Glad you've followed up with another good vid.
yep, i have people ask me about the filter all the time and i point them to this video :D

I wish I had this much room in my bay for filtration.
Stumbled across this channel. It's good stuff
been searching whether the pipercross filter fits fwd setup or not. finally found this video!
thanks
Ahhh it’s here
haha, you found it :D

This video should be like 5 seconds long with the only words said: "You don't". The end :D

keep the vids flowing Bro!!!!
awesome ride man, Just had a fx16 in the garage today, first time seeing or working on one, cant wait to get it running good for the touge action this year.
love the watch
@sushpants , which version of the filter did you order? There is the 120mm (90mm inside) and 150mm (125mm inside) tall, I guess the taller one?
I might get those Uni filters and give them a try on my Blacktop soon as i get trumpets :)
Does the ISCV simply run vented to atmosphere when running open throttles or do you need to filter the idle air somehow?
i think u can find some airbox or try create custom it will keep more air inside
excellent quality video you deserve far more subscribers
I have an itg filter similar to this, the mounting screws have easily come off with vibration of the engine. I just replaced them with actual screws and solved my problem. I just don't want the same thing to happen to you
Crysix thanks for the tip, which screws are you talking about, the trumpet bolts or the filter clips?
filter clips, I had one pop out of me and I lost it so I replaced them all with actual screws so it did not happen again
Crysix gotcha, I'll keep an eye on them, I haven't had one fall out yet.
what is power gain from this trumpets?
did you try shorter trumpets? I have right hand drive rolla so brake parts are limiting dimension of 1st cylinder trumpets
ps funny word - trumpets)))

I badly need filtration, I was considering this but I’m not sure it’ll fit in my engine bay 😣
How is the filter after years of using it? Does the foam breaks into particles?
cool car man! i have an ae101 fx-gt with the silvertop 20v 4age in it... i had the valve cover off recently and found that it is quite black under there with buildup (im assuming past owners were lazy with oil changes??) any tips on cleaning this?? and do you think it will be losing performance because of it?? thanks! keep up the videos, really cool to see someone doing videos on an engine/car that i have and can relate too 😃

That would work to keep the foam from getting sucked in but i still think the UNI filters are too restrictive.
This is so nice to watch.. i then look at my own car and sigh slowly.. (4A-FE AE101 Sedan.. meh..)
awesome. Love your car bro!
w Wendt thank you!
wouldn't it be easier to just pop the strut bar off and slide the filter over the top of the already attached trumpets or do you still not have enough room?
pballer2005 or put the car on stands and jacking the engine up and down to get the space needed
i have a 20v silvertop MAP conversion and i dont use filters lol hate how it looks covered lol
You can even get little grids that are quite discreet and will keep out larger debris
Yeah that was my question when it start the engine u get dirty air in that engine and it can damage it
Hello,
Just wanted to ask anyone here knows what throttle cable was used for the engine? I have a 20 v silvertop installed on a ae101 but the stock ae101 throttle cable is a bit stiff and kinda difficult to control. Cant seem to find the answer in google as well.

Those vvt cam gears are crazy expensive
Say mate what trumpet/kit would you recommend for a golf mk2 16v?
I have a Blacktop in an MR2. I bought it with a cheap autozone intake on it and am tired of the horrible droning sound at around 3000 RPM. How hard is it to install these trumpets? Do I have to mess with the fuel system or any sensors?
the drone might not be the intake but your exhaust. I stuck a big resonator in my exhaust to get rid of exactly that.
Hey sushpants, I have a ae82 twincam with the 16v bluetop in it, i was thinking of doing a 20v conversion. What guides/manual did you follow
I used some tips from João Rocha da Silva, like labeling everything that you are disconnecting with masking tape. If you are going to rebuild the engine, you can follow the Toyota Factory manual which is very in-depth (just be careful with the exhaust cam position). Alright cheers man, should join ae82 corolla owners club on facebook
can someone explain how does the lenght of them trumpets affect power?
Here's a good article on trumpets: thegarage.jalopnik.com/what-are-velocity-stacks-and-why-you-want-them-on-your-1792235442
I hope I could do itbs on my geo prizm even if it is a 4afe
What did you do with the O2 sensor when you originally installed the ITB's?
The o2 sensor is still in the exhaust. The 20v blacktop doesn't have a flapper box or mass air flow meter and relies on the throttle position sensor and the MAP sensor which allows it to run with open trumpets. There is a air temp sensor that i just mounted in front of one the trumpets.
@@sushpants so if you mount that airflow sensor in front of one throtelbody it wil work?. Asking because i want to do the same thing on my rxi
hey bro are u using the stock blacktop intake metal gasket or are you bolting them directly on maybe using some gasket maker ?
I'm using the mounting plate for the filter in between the stacks with no gasket maker, otherwise I bolt them directly to the throttle bodies if I'm running them open.
Hi there
Could u pls copy and paste the link of the piper cross filter and adaptor plate in this comment below ... I would like to buy one
Thank you
South Africa
i put a link to it in the description.
make your own filters. Use 2 chicken wire as a skeleton and foam for the actual filter
Will it make the sound quieter?
Just a tiny bit. It’s doesn't affect power output at all and the sound is still great.
@@sushpants ohh, i thought it could make the sound quieter.... I have ITB and want it to be quieter since it's a daily car hahaha
Will the filter muffle the trumpets at all?
It muffles them a little, but they are still pretty loud.
What's the width of the 100mm trumpets
Can I ask you a question I'm doing the exact same engine swap a 20v blacktop but into a ae101 corolla only problem that is worrying me is wiring can you give me any tips

Thanks for the help man :)
Sadly, I don’t have enough room so only Unifilter socks fit.
why dont you just remove the strut bar would make this whole process alot easier, just make sure to re-torque back to spec
It isn't really that much in the way.
Hey nice car and engine. I have an AE92 GTi and would like to put a pipercross in on my blacktop. Problem is my car is RHD. Can you give me a measurement of ur pipercross from itb plate to front?
Just wanna know how close it would get to my clutch master cylinder.
how much hp does your car makes?
Valve IAC?
Did I miss something?
Why not take the strut to firewall brace off and give yourself some room....
Chiken wire 😂😂
SO MUCH EFFORT FOR ONLY 130 hp LOL
