Wonderful notes, such artwork and to have them consecutive!! Ben, I really feel you should be able to fight that overcharge!! Would they really want to alienate a prospective good customer. So argue, nicely with them. Nothing to lose.
Ugh, I appreciate your humility. You sent these in and they did not contact you before running your card with the increased fees? One or two would be understandable, but that's completely unprofessional if they didn't reach out to clarify the potential of a mistake of that magnitude.
Oh No 😮😮 Really sorry to hear this, Ben ! Yes, I can only imagine the shock you had when you first learned of the increased cost per. But I would have thought PMG would alert you to the incorrect rate before proceeding to up-grade all 97 of them, this seems more like an oversight on their part.
Another mistake I heard about was the guy who sent in his coin for grading - the company had his debit card on file - the grading company wrote him an email explaining something like "hey there are a couple marks that we can easily remove for you , do you want us to go ahead and do that?" He writes back "sure , thank you" , he gets his debit card charged extra for that , and when his coin arrives back in the mail , the word "CLEANED" is on the slab.
Ben, I have to say that you're such a good natured guy... I have a major aversion to NGC/PMG that it actually gives me nausea. The fact is they never cut the little guy a break and their pricing ... given that they are a virtual monopoly ... is clearly predatory. I await the day that some insider/whistleblower comes forward and exposes all the anti-consumer practices of this racket. The fact that they do not have a mechanism for informing the customer of additional charges that might be incurred assuming (you had designated a pricing check off box similar to coins) is unconscionable. Their coin submission forms have totals which would reflect the expected cost the customer is anticipating. If the actual cost is different, they should obtain consent prior to incurring additional charges. That, and the farce of providing one word notations on why a coin is "ungradable". The more I learn about this "hobby" the more I see the "business". As an aside, I'm totally convinced that the Vaultbox scam is just that, a scam, like the one currently being perpetrated by the US Mint Director Strike Peace dollar. Out of the 200 struck how many does any reasonably cognizant human being believe are being sent out "randomly"? Anyway, the notes in the video look beautiful. Carry on!
Yikes! That is a crazy markup for a larger size note. That shouldn't just be in the fine print. I wish you could record that phone call so we could hear what they have to say. Unfortunately, it is illegal to record a call in Florida (just looked it up). I'm curious if PCGS has the same policy. Cheers!
Ouch! I think they are cool looking notes and I wish I could afford to buy them but I don't have that much spare cash. I hope you can get someone to buy them!
Instead of millimeters, PMG should use US inches and fractions for note size, and put the millimeters in parentheses for the countries that use millimeters. We need to buy more coins from you to make up the deficit
I have a bunch of crisp 100 Rouble notes from 1910, Shipov & Bylinskiy and Shipov & Schmidt. Each of those notes could buy 2 1/2 ounces of gold back in the day. Some people fled the revolution with the notes and some with gold.
Exactly why I quit using grading companies. Monopolies can screw you any way they want, not to mention the high rate of “cleaned” coins they send back.
What amazes me is they don't say anything -- you sent them notes with a payment of X. There is going to be a surcharge greater than the actual payment. You'd think that they would send a note saying "are you sure about this?" Of course the post office works the same way. If you mail something and it goes over 1 foot cubed in volume, watch out. Your 10 dollar thing can easily go to 40 and then an additional charge for getting it wrong.
Just wanted to add, how many people have $4,000 unused value on a random credit card that they already spent $1,500 on? That unexpected extra amount could overdraw someone's debit account or go over the limit on their credit card.
Hi Ben, I have a customer that knows I am a collector. She pulled out about 500 of these notes, and told me her grandfather brought them here when he emigrated from Russia. I told her I don't know much about paper, let alone Imperial Russia. When she sent me a check, she included one in the envelope, so I thought it looked familiar, and I guess they are quite common.
If only ~5% of their customers suffer from the same oversight, that's a lot of cash. Most likely suffer in silence rather than share as you've done with your community.
you would think that given the quantity and cost involved PMG would have at LEAST contacted you to clarify. It's simply good customer service, a "Best Practice". Somebody there had to question the order. How many times have they had a bulk shipment of Russian notes from 1912? smh
Hi Ben, i saw on your website you are selling them as a whole lot of 97. If you decide to break them up and sell some individually, I’d love to buy a single MS64 EPQ.
I'm not in the coin business (yet) but I am in a business.... The fine print written in invisible ink here is, "we don't need or want to have to grade very large bills so it's $40 deal with it".
I like that you also show your losses. It shows the reality of owning a shop.
1993 US Schools: "You have to learn the metric system, everyone will use it some day."
2023 BenTCG: "I don't do millimeters, I'm not British."
😉
$40 plastic? Time to stack plastic, I guess.
I'd say they do that because of shipping not plastic necessarily. But still ridiculous
Wonderful notes, such artwork and to have them consecutive!! Ben,
I really feel you should be able to fight that overcharge!! Would they
really want to alienate a prospective good customer. So argue, nicely
with them. Nothing to lose.
Thanks, Ben. We've all done something like this. We laugh to keep from crying.
Yes! That’s the way to do it .
Ugh, I appreciate your humility.

Oh, no, Ben... I'm so sorry... You seriously have the greatest attitude I've ever seen.
Another mistake I heard about was the guy who sent in his coin for grading - the company had his debit card on file - the grading company wrote him an email explaining something like "hey there are a couple marks that we can easily remove for you , do you want us to go ahead and do that?" 😂damm
Good ol Spegtacular!
If that's true and I have no reason to believe it's not I would have fought that like mad.

Bend over, PMG is driving.
Ouch! Thanks for letting us learn from your mistake.

The air really came out of my balloon dear Sir.
What a disappointing disappointment.
😞😐
$40 for a little bit more plastic seemed exorbitant. Unless YOU own the company charging that fee. Then it's just flippin' GENIUS!
Wow good stuff ben 😮😅😢$$$$.
Ouch! That one is going to leave a mark (or a ruble). Pretty notes. Can you show us the notes on a video? That would be fun....
NGC does not provide the value that it should. Ben you got screwed.
Ouch! I think they are cool looking notes and I wish I could afford to buy them but I don't have that much spare cash. I hope you can get someone to buy them!
I collect Russian coins and notes. I would be very interested in one.
Instead of millimeters, PMG should use US inches and fractions for note size, and put the millimeters in parentheses for the countries that use millimeters. We need to buy more coins from you to make up the deficit
Ouch, hope you can get your $$ back thru selling?
Never saw one of those Russian notes. They are beautiful!
Grading coins and notes is the biggest scsm in the game 40 dollars for a piece of extra plastic says it all ...
I have a bunch of crisp 100 Rouble notes from 1910, Shipov & Bylinskiy and Shipov & Schmidt. Each of those notes could buy 2 1/2 ounces of gold back in the day. Some people fled the revolution with the notes and some with gold.
Im sorry to hear this what a loss!! When those notes are for sale ill buy one to help out😂😂😅😅😅
I'd say they do that because of shipping not plastic necessarily. But still ridiculous
Owwie!! nice notes but wow on the added extra
Seems that the spot price for plastic has exceeded the spot price for silver. Yikes, and ouch!
Ben, even though you may have lost money on each one, maybe you'll make it up on volume. 🤣
Yes
Waist of $$, buy bullion 😊
Dude that’s expensive plastic. 😢
Hard life lessons…….

Thanks for sharing
The only mistake is not commenting, liking, and sharing so this channel go grow

Those are pretty cool. Ill check your site and maybe help you make back some of that $.
Currently listed as a group- stay tuned - if they don’t sell we’ll break it up
Heh. You should see what they're (CGC) charging for comic books these days....
ouch
The watermark looks like Willy Wonka. You've got a whole bunch of Golden Tickets!
I'm buying you some MM calipers....
Thanks for the video!
You're welcome!

As soon as you said "always kinda fun", I knew it was bad. Amazing notes to be preserved!
Hi Ben, i saw on your website you are selling them as a whole lot of 97. If you decide to break them up and sell some individually, I’d love to buy a single MS64 EPQ.
I’ll probably do a reprise on those!
@@TheCoinGeek have you done a reprise?!?!? Still interested
OOPS 💸💸💸💸 🤑💰💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸
Ben, I've made those mistakes too! I guess you live, you learn! As long as you learn by your mistakes you're ok.
Fantastic looking note. I am sorry about the loss.
They ripped you good , funny how the grading companies want all the profits.
I'm not in the coin business (yet) but I am in a business....

Sounds like you just shot yourself in the foot ooouuuuccchhhh good video
Very cool notes. Hopefully it still works out for you and you don’t lose any money on them. Thanks for sharing. 🙂👍👍

Please do! 😆
That seems rather a bit much.
Oof! 🤢 Thanks for sharing though.
That extra stinks!
Oops 😂
Opps & ouch Ben, lovely notes. Us Brits aren't fans of metric we got lumbered with the metric system when we joined the EEC.
Oops

1 inch=25.4 mm
