    For me 2014 will always be my peak time of Yugioh... so many genuinely competitive decks across the first 4-5 months of that year, Fire Fist, Mermail, Geargia, Fire King, Infernity... Heck you could play Dark World, Gadget, Evilswarm, Constellar or Dragon Rulers and all were pretty reasonable options... followed by HAT... a format where matches could go from really skill intensive to just super sacky... it had it all imo. And then we got the announcement of pendulums coming to the game and got one of the best sets ever in Duellist Alliance bringing in Burning Abyss, Tellarknight, Shaddoll, Yang Zing and introducing pendulums to the game and ending with New Challengers giving us Qliphort, more support for Performapal, Monarchs getting new toys during this year. My favorite year to play from start to finish.

    Well my theory is that people are in denial that modern yugioh has existed longer than boomer/ classic yugioh and any other era for that matter , so they have to come up with all these new arbitrary rules and goofy names to justify their own delusions of a "golden age" being shorter than the new era which they mostly dislike

    The reason fusion deck era is named fusion deck era is because the extra deck was called the fusion deck.

    I think Raging Tempest is spot on for the transition to what's considered "Modern Yugioh". Introduction of Zoo and then Ash Blossom shortly after really upped the difference between the top decks compared to previous ones. The combo/resource game for those decks was way different from what we had before. The introduction of Tear also makes complete sense for what we would consider "Post Modern Yugioh".

  • @ozimantv
    @ozimantv 3 месяца назад +7

    The worst thing in my opinion is the post Tearlements SOLELY because of KASHTIRA as a archetype having banish facedown mechanic. It is to this day the most busted thing to be ever printed aside for the original power 5. In particular unicorn is literally a no cost easy to summon extra deck end board monster that you can search and thats just stupid. I know a lot of people think its fenrir but let me put it this way, fenrir is just pankratops while unicorn is literally a diabolis that has a search effect on top which can search a CONTINOUS spell that can recur himself so you get 2 bodies and grave banish.
    I think snake eye is ok (yes not the most enjoyable thing) but imo stun cards and kashtira cards need to be erased. Particularly, unicorn, riseheart and ogre. These cards being able to facedown banish with no counter play in turn 1 is just stupidity. The only way these cards can ever be allows is if we get an extra deck monster that can add multiple cards from banish to our hand and including banish facedown cards and we would then need to ban the self banish facedown cards because they are balanced around banish facedown recovery being hard. Basically, balancing kashtira facedown effects is impossible without treating their counter like a halqifibrax and basically removing all the cards like the modern pot cards that banish facedown instead of kashtira cards which are the actual problem.

    • @ozimantv
      @ozimantv 3 месяца назад +2

      I just wanna add that funny enough Arise heart and fenrir can be free if rise heart, unicorn and ogre is banned. I think fenrir small engine for other visas decks is fine but when you have unicorn ogre or riseheart with their banish facedown effects thats too much random luck and a lot of bullshit. Like because of unicorn you can't run single extra deck cards and because of rise heart you can just auto lose randomly which is just dumb and completely unbalanced.

    I also relate eras of the game to big life milestones. I've been playing since 2003 when I was 15/16. for me OLD yugioh aka Chaos era was High school era for me. GX was college era, 5Ds sets were post grad era/work. Then I took a short break when MR3 began, came back to the game when Links released when I changed jobs and got super back into comp around TOSS era. Post 2020 was my "moved back to America" era, and currently post POTE is my Japan era

    Wind up hunter loops and inzektor back then are pretty much the same as todays yugioh, besides a little consistency and less hand traps, so thats where I personally think modern yugioh peaked its headout a bit.

    • @kimoritasu
      @kimoritasu 3 месяца назад +3

      I think you're just misunderstanding. There's a difference between having combo decks and every deck being a combo deck. For example, when traptix, a "trap" based deck becomes a monster combo that had accesscode otk lines.

  • @Zetact_

    Thing is that a lot of more casual people will talk about "modern Yugioh" in the context of it being Pendulum Era by bringing up "modern Yugioh cards" being things like Nirvana High Paladin or Endymion Mighty Master. Therefore it sets a relatively fixed point as being when "modern Yugioh" starts.
    Personally I think that the game, as it would eventually become developed, started around the time of Pepe, arguably as early as Nekroz. Pepe was the first major deck where you'd have most of your deck function as means of getting to a starter and you'd be able to make your entire board turn 1. The largest developments that the game has gotten, in deckbuilding and game flow, since Pepe was that you'd get more out of singular cards, and engines become more compact so you have more room for hand traps and board breakers, but within the context of what games look like in action they haven't significantly changed much since Pepe. Zoodiac was around the era of Pepe and the reason it isn't still currently meta is not because Zoodiac's game plan hasn't aged well, it's that most decks do what made Zoodiac tier 0 at the time of its release but they get better payoff for it and are less susceptible to interruption - I think this is why people would say that Arc-V was "modern" and we're currently in "post-modern."
    Also part of why I think modern started around mid Arc-V era is because decks of that time period, such as Phantom Knights and Infernoid, can still compete with new rogue decks and oftentimes outperform them. Between eras usually older decks would be more or less powercrept.

    i think judging which era is "better" is such a weird thing, because each era consists of many formats of which some are good and some are really bad. its gonna be funny to watch the backlash when people think they can play some fun Edison decks in the leaked Time Travel event on Master Duel, only to get smashed by full power Six Samurai every game.

  • @glrbrasil
    @glrbrasil 3 месяца назад +5

    In a way Duelist Alliance or even Dragon Rulers were already far different from early two thousands YGO imo, so far before links. Even Wind-up handloops or Infernitiy were REALLY fast. With less handtraps, the previous two were even harder to stop than todays stuff... Maybe we just have more information, more content, master duel etc, so these problems rise up so much faster and we're complaining about them on day one.

    I actually like the mr4 era, granted the link lines and combos were broken and power creeping. But I respected the fact we had to make links first to access more extra deck types and place them based on arrows. Konami probably could have also increased extra deck space to help this mr4 format too. But here we are, ED power creep dominates every thing lol
