I only dragon piercer for cutting tails and when I have a clear shot at a long monster that is stunned/knocked. But you guys have convinced me other wise. Only for tail cuts from now on
For those who struggle dodging, or for some monster attacks that are really obnoxious evade extender 2 helps. With 2 points in you can dodge rajang's super jump or clear luna's mini nova pretty fast
The silver tickets that the steamworks is making tons of during the festival have a high chance of giving rare HR decos. You should probably be doing as much steamworks as you can if you really don't have that...
Not going to lie I don't have any of the decos to play a normal build for bow so this is how I've been using bow in iceborne and it's not bad at all lol
Something he didn't mention in this (which was very helpful since I'm a bow novice) was that Dragon Piercer does cut damage, and isn't completely useless for taking tails off when you're too lazy to switch weapons like me.
@jitome4159 I started using the bow solo earlier this year and find it quite easy to get cuts with piercer. Just wait till the monster is ko'd or the like and fire one through tail to head or vice versa
This was very helpful. I always stuck to one bow, dragon piercer regularly, and tried to build for physical damage over elemental. I'll take all of this into account and see how my performance improves.
Amazing timing! I wanted to learn new weapons and so I was literally just typing "mhw bow guide" and before watching anything I checked the notifications, seeing your video. now I can learn from the best! Keep it up!
This is actually one of the best bow guides I've ever seen tbh. Not only was it helpful and kinda funny but it was extremely simple. And straight forward. I started world with bow and I played it like I did in mh4u so I dropped it never seeing it potential.
Literally just started playing this game a week ago and kinda disappointed you didn't explain dragon piercer, be it a good move or a bad one, still helpful to know WHY we should/shouldn't be using it.
for those starting to farm their elemental bows, prioritize lightning and ice. combination of these 2 elements will give you at least a 2 star weakness advantage on like 90% of the monsters. i personally dont enjoy bow that much with iceborne, but thats simply because in base mhw i liked hammer but found the ko buildup absolutely worthless, which has now changed
The bow melee attack allows for mounting from ground level. It was relevant in ATKT P1s, and it still has some use in multiplayer for prepping mount or mounting yourself. Thanks for this update! I got into bow with your original video for bow and having this for newer players is an amazing resource!
Saw a guy use it to slide down the slope when raging brachy starts pummeling the ground to avoid the stagger, and then attack him while he was still doing it.
Funny, Charged up Dragon Pierce has knocked a Monster more than once for me. When you KO the monster and it struggles to get up, allighn yourself to the monsters fullest length and do a maxed charge dragon pierce shooting straight through it.
Thanks for the video! Its been 5 months and there's now MR Kjarr now, but this was really helpful for me as i just started playing Bow as a new weapon.
Bro I remember hearing ALLLLL the time "U need a mighty bow jewel" in every bow main video. I spent HOURS grinding trying to find one and out right REFUSED to even start Iceborne without it and I finally got one after grinding for days of tempered monsters wen I reached hunter rank 140.
Wolverine101 I only got that deco months after finishing the main quest in iceborne (grinding the lavasioth high rank event) and randomly got another one while doing a random quest last week. I also play SnS and I'm still missing Protective Polish, so I was like "gee, thanks rngeesus, I really needed a second mighty bow deco, it's not like having more than one of these changes absolutely nothing". The rng on the deco drops is the second most annoying thing in this game for me, the first being the rng on the kulve weapon drops (I swear I got no less than four kjarr water and two dragons bows, but no ice, fire or thunder).
Disagree entirely on dragon pierce. That extra part break power is too useful for the more difficult part breaks and if you are using arc shot properly, you will very easily be able to create space for you to use it well.
Can you link your pc control scheme?mine feels really awkward compared to how my melee builds work. The clutch claw kind of messed up a lot for my controls.
I'm glad that clutch claw isn't super broken on bow. It's super sad to hear about dragon piercer though. Tbh I will still use it. Lol probably over use it but that's because I like the move. But great guide
Arrows don't have motion values. Only melee attacks/weapons do. Also for those of us who aren't complete gods at the game and end up soloing a monster which will eventually get the monster to go to sleep (for those that do sleep) since dragonpiercer actually phases through the monster to hit multiple times it is much more effective to use if you position your bombs behind the monsters head and down the body because if you simply hit the bombs first you give up some damage potential considering your first hit on the monster does a lot more damage when it's asleep. So hit the head first with DP and have it hit the bombs second = more damage. This was covored multiple times. Even team darkside did it for their bow vids.
I find moving between bow and lance to be pretty easy, because both have the mindset of reacting to the monster and countering with damage. If you're okay with dropping a few points of damage, I love running evade window for comfort. Makes it way easier to dodge through roars and attacks.
Absolutely solid guide. You are the main reason I got better with the gun weapons. I havent picked up bow in a long time might time to get better with it
Finally someone who makes a good guide for bow, there's guides out there saying dragonpiercer is a good move, i mean use it for fun sure, but it's like kicking your dps in the nuts
Normally, yeah it's not great but I actually discovered that you could casually slide into a 1000 dragons, after standard combo rounds of arrows it doesn't have to be as stiff as it's meant to feel. it takes good muscle memory but you can definitely incorporate it in a combo after a monster is down.
same i made a 1k dragons (almost exclusive) build and yeah muscle memory plays a big key you're right. nothing better than knocking bazel completely backwards with one to the face
Thanks for this video mate, exactly what i was looking for since i am looking to get into bows. Well explained, all areas touched (basics, combos, rotations, sets), nice background music... new subscriber straight away!
Base 5% + Agitator ( 5% when active ) + WE ( 30% ) + max crit.eye ( 40% ) = 80% The leftovers are handled by wether you attack the wounded parts for WE or not ( Extra 20% )
Dash dancing bows are some hella damage. If you have the team damage ui mods for pc and you play the bow right, you'll see that it's easy to keep up with or even do more than big boy damage weapons like greatsword or hammer. People don't believe it till you show them the numbers
I can't seem to dodge right with a bow. My guy pulls out an arrow then does a bunny hop rather than actually roll. Idk what I'm doing wrong. Maybe I suck
When nerg rears up and roars look at his hands. If his right hand is up he’ll slam down to his right. Same with his left. If both hands are up then he’ll slam straight forward.
Nice guide. A bit late now perhaps, but in an effort to offer some constructive criticism, one thing I think it could've been worth including is some discussion about mantles; which mantles work well with bow, what decorations are good to slot into your mantles, etc. and maybe some discussion about whether status coatings decos are ever worth while (personally I like to run status coating decos on my mantles for a bit of added utility). Anyway, great content as always. Keep up the good work!

Arc shot happens when you're still charging an arrow and press circle (or B Xbox). After you release a charged arrow, hit circle or B. The charge of the arrow determines the number of arrows and power. It uses less stamina to power shot after a charged shot. Hope that helped.
Dont spam the button, just press it once after a dash/chain. if you accidentally press it twice the arc comes out. Go to training mode to practice not button mashing but learning the actual button combo's and timing.

Look, I didn't come back to this game after a year just to feel like a scrub haha this was an excellent guide and cannot wait to put all this into practice and actually rotation
I'll tell you all a secret. Bow is so strong that, believe it or not, you can actually play it without a mighty bow gem, and still crush all monsters really fast. (You should still have mighty bow if possible though).
Well, after watching these video I’m going to make myself a raw bow set, because I’m too lazy to farm Safi for all those elemental bows xd. Good video though. Keep them coming.
I have a question (newbie here) what do you mean when at 9:51 and onward, when you talk about "skill priority" and the top one being element? Do you mean the element on our bows? Like how some bows have ice, water, and or fire dmg? Or is this section referring to something else. I bought the game ages ago when it was on sale, but only now just got it when it was on sale. I appreciate being informed of the proper rotation/things to keep in mind to keep DPS high.
Hello! Incase you haven't figured out, what he means is the priority of skills to add to your set via armor skills or decoration slots. So prioritize certain skills because the synergies are better than other skills.
So basically the entire bow's moveset outside of its basic attacks are useless and you'll be using the same two attacks forever. How is Lance considered the "boring" weapon again?
This is helping me with my fatalis bow. I used to just spam circle while dodging. I'm having some timing issues where I take too much time to power shot so it becomes a quick shot again
I am pretty much new to this game (play a bit when it first came out, dropped it cause I didn’t like it, but a friend got me to try it again and I’m really enjoying it). And I haven’t finished the story yet and I don’t understand most of what your saying. All I do understand is that what I have been using and like to use a lot is bad. Well that’s helpful. Lol
Man, this is a great video. Relevant, goes over everything, and concisely explains what to look for without beating you over the head with picking up what's meta. Great work.
Every time I start these videos(because I want to learn) I realize how much I actually don’t. I hate “rotations” and number checks or “maximum dps”. Just removes all the fun out of playing when people say stuff like “don’t use this, don’t use that” and makes it like a job. But like I said I’d like to be able to get some good damage and skills without having to use what’s “meta” and playing only what’s approved by the board lol.
You can.. several people stated they never got a mighty bow jewel and still destroy. But yes Bow does require several skills to make managing the weapon easier. At least slot in Stam surge and constitution whenever you can. It just makes the weapon not feel so terrible.
I wish you would go over coatings and when and why to use coatings, when to use close range or normal etc. Im very new to bow and am so overwhelmed with learning all the different terms your using for bow... I think rapid means just a regular shot? but your video has helped a TON! can't thank you enough for making a guide this amazing. I'd love if you'd follow it up with a videio going over coatings for complete and utter noobs like me.
I know you posted this 3 weeks ago but in case you're still confused... You want to use power coatings pretty much as much as you can. They're just a straight up damage increase. Sure you only carry 50 but you can bring ingredients to craft more in the field. If you do want to be more stingy with them I guess you could save them for downs or something but most of the time that isn't really necessary. Close range coatings are pretty much for when you either run out of power coatings or are using a bow that doesn't support them. The damage boost isn't as good as power coatings and they have the additional condition of making your damage drop off quickly if you're not near the enemy, but you want to be close for optimal spread/powershot damage anyway so the latter isn't as big of a deal as it sounds. Plus close range coatings are infinite and every bow can use them. Blast coatings are pretty useless. Don't bother. Poison can be useful for enemies weak to poison, though regular bow damage is so high I wouldn't use that that much in generall. It typically takes more hits from a bow than a bowgun to apply a status and you're doing significantly reduced damage with status coatings on. But for something that takes extra poison damage like Shara or Safi I could see it being useful. Paralysis and sleep can be really useful for certain CC strategies but also don't see that much use in general. But there was stuff like P1ing KT back in HR where CC bow in area 4 was *the* go-to strategy. That required support from the whole team though. In a solo hunt the 'problem' is again that bow does so much damage that most of the time you're better off just attacking the monster normally (and you can still get staggers and trips that way...).
I believethats the best and Most reflected Guide Out there. Im tryibg to make IT Work AS i Just started. Wouldve liked it If you went over a Low geared Rotation or some quick Tips but im getting there
On a 5 piece Safi armor set, should you stop at level 1 Coalescence? Or go ahead and max it out at level 3? Trying to figure what’s optimal or worth it...
I used to cut Xeno Jivas tail with Dragonpiercer back in the day. Don't underestimate the partbreak values on that. Also doing a wake-up hit with Dragon Piercer or Thousand Dragons is fine. Another thing worth noting that Dash Juice also gives you roughly level 2 or 3 Marathon Runner from my testing which can help conserve some of your precious stamina when disengaging/repositioning.

So to take notes here, the easyest and most effective Way of playing Bow is hold on L2, use R2, Sidedash, use Circle, Sidedash, repeat?
Sunaki1000 I think it’s r2, circle, slide, r2, circle, slide, repeat
@@kobeagu8314 Ok, thnx
I'll tell you all a secret. Bow is so strong that, believe it or not, you can actually play it without a mighty bow gem, and still crush all monsters really fast. (You should still have mighty bow if possible though).
Well, after watching these video I’m going to make myself a raw bow set, because I’m too lazy to farm Safi for all those elemental bows xd. Good video though. Keep them coming.
Its easier to farm safi, than farm for the other bows, also if you want a raw bow go for the blast bow of safi, its good.
Doesn't TD cut tails too?
So basically the entire bow's moveset outside of its basic attacks are useless and you'll be using the same two attacks forever. How is Lance considered the "boring" weapon again?
3000 hours never got a single mighty bow gem
This is helping me with my fatalis bow. I used to just spam circle while dodging. I'm having some timing issues where I take too much time to power shot so it becomes a quick shot again
How we get mighty bow tho?
I know you have done a mouse and keyboard guide on pc, can you do a update keys binds on iceborn.
Love it how you have to farm the base game for deco's like the bow charge.
Great work.
Good Day sir. can yun post your PC controls for Range Weapon? Thanks
Sick guide man, helped a lot!
Great guide, I would just add that to do a quick shot again you must wait a brief moment, otherwise it forces an arc shot or power shot.
It’s meta build only for fire bow. There is no needed amount of jewel sockets for another elements even with beta armor version
Leave my poor dragon piercer alone!XD
i only dragon pierce when monsters with long bodies get knocked down... otherwise, never...
why? because sometimes, i like looking cool...
Lol facts
Well its there if you really need a tail. Back in world always used it when I needed tail
I like to look cool sometimes also, but sweatpants are just too comfortable
@@jacobherrera4616 exactly, with dragon piercer you can easily cut tails, not easy as LS but still pretty easy
may i know which layered armor you are using in the video? :)
Wouldve liked it If you went over a Low geared Rotation or some quick Tips but im getting there
so how do you preform a Rapid shot all i get is Power shots and normal and charged shots
Thanks for the video it help me to understand how bow work now
I think I didn't understand how to do a claw attack. Do I need an especific item? Or the bow can do that?
So I'm guessing a defender bow can't use specific ammo. Because my bow the ammo is maxed but has a x on them.
Wait how am I suppose to sever the tail without Dragon Piercer? I've only ever been able to sever the tail with that.
>Dragon piercer. Pretend it don't exist
It also deals slash damage and allows bows to cut off tails.
I wish all MH guides were as good as this one
What's the diff between quickshot and rapid???
What a great video ,really good for HUGE bow n00bs like me .I learnt a lot thanks .Thumbs up and earned a sub.cheers.
How do you make the item drops stand out like that?
I have a question what is the layered armor?
What layered armour is that? It looks incredible
Guys, i don't think the pole ever bleeds its either element, a mod, or a guild palace bow gimmick i haven't noticed yet
Its a mod
Thank god the mighty bow deco became meldable because I’ve played MHW and Iceborne for 500 hours without the deco ever dropping.
dragon piercer is fun ! but ok its a risk that you have to take
On a 5 piece Safi armor set, should you stop at level 1 Coalescence? Or go ahead and max it out at level 3? Trying to figure what’s optimal or worth it...
in my opinion dragon peircer is lack lustre in damage but decent in the ability to create an opening if timed right
I used to cut Xeno Jivas tail with Dragonpiercer back in the day.
Stamina surge or constitution? Which is better??
